Oh yes, you and Sleep Token are going to be like two peas in a pod. PLEASE, EVERY. SINGLE. SONG IN ORDER😭 im so envious of people who get to experience this for the first time.
“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.” -Vessel 2017 Here to Worship"
So, the album title, Sundowning, as I'm sure you know, is usually referred to an Alzheimer's thing... the forgetting at night... and you could also apply that to a relationship... You forget the dark parts of the relationship, to keep going. So, the night comes down like heaven... the blissful ignorance that you cling to to keep yourself from seeing the bad things that really should make you realize this relationship isn't gonna be good... hence the we tangle endlessly, and I know you will not be mine, so give me the night, the night, the night. Let me get to the night so I can forget all those bad things, and edit my memories so that I can still have this version of this person that I long for. I am really happy you started this journey. I found you from your Ren reactions, and now I am really excited to see your unique take on Vessel's art.
you will continue to be amazed by vessel’s songwriting! he truly is a modern day poet i also just got FULL goosebumps hearing you mention that “it feels like the night belongs to ME (you)” you have no idea how significant that we’ll become at the very end of your sleep token journey with euclid i hope you’re loving sleep token so far, i cannot WAIT to see more sleep token!
This song is tied to the last song on their newest album (and the last in this particular trilogy of albums) called 'Euclid' which actually explores more of your thoughts, especially with regards to feeling like the song is saying 'the night belongs to me'.
Hi Tom, if you would like a (semi) accurate, chronological road map to follow for Sleep Token: EP's * "One" (first EP, 3 songs) * "Two" (second EP, also 3 songs) The singles: 2 original songs, 2 covers *"The Way That You Were" *"Jaws" *"Hey Ya" (Outkast cover) *"Is It Really You?" (Loathe cover) The Albums *Sundowning (first album) Sundowning The deluxe edition bonus tracks which is 1 original song, and 2 more covers: * "Shelter" *"When The Party's Over" (Billie Eillish cover) *"I Wanna Dance With Somebody" (Whitney Houston cover) *This Place Will Become Your Tomb (second album) *Take Me Back to Eden (third, and most recent album) Hope this helps!
The Night Does Not Belong To God is a good place to start! They have a couple EPs before Sundowning, but this definitely works. I'm interested to see what a therapist makes of the lyrics!
Very Happy to see you start this journey ... The previous albums ... One .... and Two .. are also contextual beginnings.. but not within this Trilogy of Trauma.
Also - .. you absolutely NEED to look into lore and analysis of the Trilogy .. It will help contextualize some of the themes ... but maybe do that AFTER you listen to everything .. and make your own guesses.
Best journey you will ever go on. Amazing choice. I think you should do their earliest material last, you will be alot more acquainted with their sound by then and will be able to appreciate that older stuff alot more.
Great reaction and you did crack the code. Their music is dynamic, closest feeling I got when I heard Tool the first time (which I grow up on). Glad you found them, this is going to be fun!!
You’re doing it right. Start at Sundowning and go in order. I hope you love it! Sleep Token is sooo unique and creative. Enjoy the journey, I’ll be here to watch it all!
I never comment on videos usually, but I just wanted to say thank you for doing these videos. Reacting to my favorite band at a time in my life where I feel my mind slipping more and more daily. It helps to hear how you interpret my favorite lyrics. Thank you again.
Start with the lore video. These 3 albums you can now start are one phenomenal concept with a great finish. Its a ride that I know you'll have tons of therapy advice along the way.
Sleep Token has EP1 & Ep2 and some other singles before they made their albums. Sleep Token worship goddess Sleep its a story about Vessel's relationship with this deity.
This is not accurate. In the interview that Vessel gave, he always referred to Sleep with masculine pronouns. And he never mentioned worshipping this deity. He said that he was here to be a vessel for the messages of the deity, Sleep. Which again, was referred to with masculine pronouns.
I'm glad you questioned your interpretation of the "night". It's a recurring theme in Sleep Token's music ("night", "darkness", "sleep"), and, without doubt, it's a greatly malevolent force. The key word in the line "the night comes down like heaven" is "like". The night has the appearance of heaven; it seems serene, safe and even seductive. But, in my interpretation, it actually represents the depths of mental disorder-specifically, a post-traumatic disorder. As a sufferer of PTSD myself, I've had to question why I descended into disordered thinking in repsonse to trauma, and it's exactly what this song refers to: it's the more attractive way out. Safe, secure and ostensibly blissful. It's only in the very last song of the third album that Vessel understands that, sure, "the night" does not belong to God, but it actually belongs to *him*. He can take control of his darkness; he is not merely a "token" of "sleep". It is a revelation, and it's a hell of a journey to get there-quite literally.
For me the night has always been my respite. The most beautiful and calm and comforting time. A time that brings back my wonder and curiousity and hope, and its just pure bliss. I struggle with my mental health a lot. When my spouse asked for divorce, and my whole life was uprooted, me and my son had to move states, and I had to be strong for him, still do, but night time? That's my time. That's when I can let it all go, and the night will cover me and give me peace and privacy to do what I need to do, whether it's let the walls down and cry or to recapture hope. It's amazing. Their music in general is so so good and has helped me a lot.
When I hear "I know for the last time you will not be mine, so give me the night" what I personally interpret it as is a person yearning for someone they know they won't be able to have. Spending nights endlessly staring at the ceiling unable to sleep is pretty miserable because you can't sleep thinking of this person, what happened, what went wrong, the never ending cycle of thoughts wondering "what if I did something different", "what if I was able to talk to them again", etc etc etc. All of those things occupy the night, it belongs TO the other person. So he's asking for the nights back. He doesn't want his every thought to be occupied by this person he's yearning for.
That’s awesome that you reacted to this first, because now you must react to Sleep Tokens last song on their most recent album “Euclid.” It’ll bring THE NIGHT DOES NOT BELONG TO GOD right back around. And maybe explain as well. Very beautiful song.
First time listening to this song with good headphones. I love hearing the harmonies I've never noticed before even though I've heard this song a million times
Please follow this journey to the end. I feel like your insight into the lyrics is really good. There’s a question you asked about this song during this reaction… all I can say is follow every step of the journey and at the end, your question will be answered. Seeing your journey start and knowing how it ends… I’m subbed for this and your incredible take and thoughts on it.
So this has been my favorite Sleep Token song for the last 4 years. Listening through it all and getting to the very end had me full blown tears. When you get to the last song on the last record, remember this song specifically. Excited to see this journey!
The night is when the singer vessel sees the goddess sleep. So yeah he’s saying the night belongs to him and sleep. But he also knows that sleep will go away when the sun comes up. So he wont ever really have her for good i guess. The three albums sort of tell the story of a toxic relationship that mimics real life a lot for me.
You’re right on the money. Start here work through everything, then album two is “this place will become your tomb”. Take me back to Eden you already are familiar with but that is the third album. Can’t wait to join you on your journey!
Out of every therapist your the one I understand about every video when I relate to a song and watch a video of you explaining them makes me understand my illnesses an background 😢thank you
This is exactly where you should be starting. you can go back to the EPs and earlier songs after you finish the trilogy. If anything, I feel like those songs are more powerful once you have gone down the rabbit hole lol SO HERE FOR THIS!
If you know about the different stages of Alzheimer’s Disease then this love story will make sense. He doesn’t want to be forgotten. The last song in this Trilogy is a bittersweet victory. Making peace with it all but feeling empty.
New sub here. Looking forward to following your sleep token journey, i feel that you're really going to embrace it. This band has gotten me through some very tough times during the last few years. All the best from the UK
You are on the right track with this song. Read up on the lore as Vessel is talking about the deity “Sleep” and how he can only be with her in his dreams. You are in for a ride. Vessels relationship with “Sleep” can relate to us all and the genius lyrics and imagery hits hard. WORSHIP!
They're first material was the EP "One", and then "Two". They have some singles here and there. But they really came into their own with the first album, Sundowning. Many people either write off, or are completely unaware of these things. It's Sundowning onwards, they don't play the early stuff live anymore. If you want the FULL experience, you have to listen to ALL their stuff, it shows their growth overtime and what's been expanded upon. But if you're following the story which is key, you have to listen to the early stuff. It establishes the plot, and Vessels beginnings and coming into contact with Sleep. Their most popular and famous song is The Summoning, it gained viral attraction namely on social media. That was the key to their instant burst of fame One Two Sundowning This Place Will Become Your Tomb Take Me Back To Eden Edit: Ascensionism is their best song, idc what anyone says
This is the perfect place to start! Church sounds will not go away. There is worship. Worship of *Sleep* Throughout these songs there are two main characters. Vessel (the lead singer) and Sleep (a goddess who appeared in his dreams). We follow a journey of Vessel's tragedies including past lovers and traumatic accidents leading up to his submission to a lover who isnt aloud to reciprocate. A being he does terrible things under the influence of. So romantic, traumatic, suicydal, biblical, polytheistic, and worship themes will be present everywhere.
in the way I view this album or this song in particular (and I've noticed others having a rather similar analyzation) is kind of about something or a situation similar to medical condition called Sundowning, hence the name of the album. which is simply (from what I've read) where one would be lost and forget as soon as the sun downs, and it's similar to alzahimers. You can also see it when Vessel says "And you remember everything, only 'til the sun recedes once again"
I envy people that the night actually belongs to themselves. I've been a lucid dreamer since i was very young. For a long time it was pleasant and enlightening. I made some mistakes in my journeys and learned that the night does not always belong to you. If you open yourself to the influence of being that have power in the night it can make for a very difficult journey. Hold to your faith, whatever it is. If you are called then head the calling. If you are not then be very weary of treading places you do not belong. If you choose to tread those paths without the purity that is required then you open yourself to the beings that are given power in the night. The night does belong to God, but it is governed by those he chooses to give power to. Tread carefully. Great reaction!. Thanks for this.
0:32 There are 2 EPs beofre the Album called "One" (the first one) and "Two". They not only have amazing songs (esp. Two) in em, but fell kinda like a prologue to the Album Trilogy. Definitely worth checking out!
Sleep Token use callbacks in the 2nd and 3rd album. I would listen to the singles, Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, then Take Me Back to Eden.
However you are missing the EPs One and Two that precede this album. They aren't a direct part of the narrative but themes in them (and the singles, The Way That You Were and Jaws) are explored in more depth in this trilogy
Sleep Token is very much akin to worship music- it ties into a lot of gospel stylings that are very, very familiar to folks who have a strong relationship with churces- negative or positive. And a lot of that is intentional, because it's music that- within its own lore- is centered around a deity.
This band has become my second favorite behind the band Tool, I would love it so much if you listened to Tool sometime because they have some truly thought-provoking lyrics and play heavy prog metal with polyrhythms that change up a bit like the way Sleep Token changes up a lot just within one song. I would love to see your reaction to two Tool songs that go together- the first ‘Parabol’ is a prelude to the main second song ‘Parabola’ and both should be played without a break between them. I think, especially since you are a therapist as well as spiritual this set of songs will really provide you with a great reaction. I would enjoy your take on these songs together. I am a 62 year old woman and Tool has been a fave since the 1990s when they really began. Only 5 albums, 6 if you count Opiate as a full album, and the most recent album came out in 2019, but all their albums are fantastic. There is a great lyrics version with both songs Parabol and Parabola put together by The Silent Guardian here on UA-cam.
Sundowning is their first Album, they had a few EP's before, and those are One and Two respectively. This song in particular isn't necessarily "Peace" from the night, it's "Love" from the night. Vessel, or the lead singer, is in love with a diety called "Sleep" That comes to him in his dreams. To Vessel, the night is Heaven, it's a place where he can truly reunite with his love, also what the name means, The Night doesn't belong to God. It belongs to Sleep and his love for Sleep.
This man is coming to this Sleep Token experience as a baby and right out of the gate he already cracked the code for who the night belongs to. I'm super excited to see another great channel starting this journey from the beginning and I'll most definitely be here for it.
Yes , it’s like church. As you continue in your Sleep Token journey, you will find that all us fans say “ worship”. Before or after a concert. Or just listening to them in general 🫶
You owe it to yourself to listen to the whole journey of these albums and do a re-listen of Take Me Back to Eden when you get there, you will have so much more context for it! And I don’t know if someone will give you the whole playlist but the albums in order are: Sundowning This Place Will Become Your Tomb Take Me Back to Eden We will all return to worship with you!
There’s a strong theory that this song links the ‘Sundowning’ theory in Alzheimer’s patients with the lyrics, Google can explain it better than my memory can!
It has probably been mentioned, but I think it's all an allegory. Is it a lost love? Is it addiction to heroin? Is it the lore of Vessel and the God(ess) Sleep? All I know is that the journey is worth it. The journey is beautiful. WORSHIP.
Technically there’s 2 eps before Sundowning. But the 3 LP’s are a trilogy. Sundowning, This place will become your tomb and Take me back to Eden. You don’t have to react to the 1 and 2, which are the names of the EP’s but ppl will probably want you to.
Check out the album Hi my name is insecure by Sam Tompkins he’s an artist that talks about a lot of things mental health related I think you’d like him! Maybe start with the song Hero or Lose it all to get into him
I get a lot of Jung from the lore, rather a bit Gnostic. Hermetic. Thats my opinion. Im fascinated by the album art. The 1st Eps videos and names of songs tap into that too. Listening to the whole discography feels like therapy. Imo, its a projection of a toxic relationship and a significant lose onto a dream world. Like Vessel is writing his own redbook. All of its gorgeous. All of it makes you feel. All of it can be projected onto with our own happenings. Its brilliant. I think that's why fans say " worship' What you said " the night belongs to me" you'll be floored if you go all the way to the end.
"When you live by daylight with angels at your side." When he says "you" he's referring to this goddess (Sleep). That is who he "worships." The idea is that Sleep is a goddess amongst other angels and perhaps cast aside from them and doesn't quite belong with the other angels in heaven. So she uses her power and allure to seduce him (Vessel) into a relationship. Throughout the course of this trilogy, you'll find that this relationship is toxic in nature. They only use each other for their own personal gain. The beauty of their music is that you can interpret the "partner" in the toxic relationship as anything that applies to you. For example: alcohol, drugs, pornography, etc...
This is the best way to start. There IS some connectivity to "praise/worship music" for some. not christian or even religious by any means but i can totally get it. the whole concept is his relationship with the Sleep Deity. if your going on the whole trip its gonna be a wild one. this band got me out of my dark place.
Also you’ll piece the story together as you go. The beauty of it is that probably everyone in this comment section will give you their own interpretation of what each song means. Because it’s largely left open for your own meaning. And later on you may notice that several of his songs aren’t written to someone else but some to himself. DYWTYLM for example.
At first it seems all of Sleep Token's songs are Vessel singing about a girl. Then you learn about the ''Lore'' and you believe He is singing about a 'god' named Sleep. But its only when you really go deep down the rabbit hole that you discover the whole time Vessel was singing about himself and connecting with his Anima. You as a therapist should really enjoy this ride if you start looking at it with Carl Jung's philosophies in mind. It's all about passing through the shadow and trying to reach and integrate the Anima and Animus. Vessel is a genius. Enjoy the ride my good sir. Worship.
You are at the beginning. There are a few ep's they did before Sundowning but this is the beginning of the trilogy. I like your take on the meaning of the song. But since Sleep Token are so anonymous you'll never get a solid cannon story on what the songs are about which is why artistically there is a meaning to every single one of us that is different. There is a surface level story, a deep story and variants there in. Just realize this journey starts by a deity known as "Sleep" who came to Vessel and put him on this path. The story of toxic behaviour and relationships, pain, forgiveness and redemption is all laid out in this trilogy. From what i understood though, this song relates to the album title of the medical condition in Alzheimer's called Sundowning. The day everything including routine is normal but when night falls confusion and terror happen unless there are steps taken by others to avoid it. Its sad, my grandfather had a this a little bit before he passed during covid time and we were kept from him with an unprepared, inept doctors office/home. So this hits a couple of the sensitive heart strings. Good luck on your journey. Im subbed and here for it all!
"I feel like im at church here."
Oh brother, you are. Worship.
Oh yes, you and Sleep Token are going to be like two peas in a pod. PLEASE, EVERY. SINGLE. SONG IN ORDER😭 im so envious of people who get to experience this for the first time.
Dude i wish i could forget about Sleep token just to experience it IN ORDER for the first time again
honestly, same. i was drawn in by The Summoning and TMBTE was the first song I fell in love with, ST is all I listen to anymore from EP One to current
The immediate "It's like church"
Brother, you got it.
There is a reason the fanbase uses the term "Worship"
The journey begins. If you complete the entire trilogy cover to cover, in order, you will thank yourself by Euclid.
As a therapist and a man of faith, you will very much pick up on multiple facets of this journey. In order is important.
“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.” -Vessel 2017

I've listened to ST religiously since I discovered them two years ago and never put this together! Really brings a whole new light to everything
Vessel sang Hallelujah live and even tho I'm not religious by any means, I've listened to it a couple times. It's absolutely gorgeous.
you will continue to be amazed by vessel’s songwriting! he truly is a modern day poet
i also just got FULL goosebumps hearing you mention that “it feels like the night belongs to ME (you)”
you have no idea how significant that we’ll become at the very end of your sleep token journey with euclid
i hope you’re loving sleep token so far, i cannot WAIT to see more sleep token!
Warning: You're going to have a blast with this "road trip"
Worship!!! Sleep Token is a spiritual journey. You are in for a treat
This song is tied to the last song on their newest album (and the last in this particular trilogy of albums) called 'Euclid' which actually explores more of your thoughts, especially with regards to feeling like the song is saying 'the night belongs to me'.
I'm so happy that your reacting to Sleep Token! Sleep Token is such a journey. You should definitely check out the ep's before sundowning

Oh, and air drumming is always welcomed when listening to Sleep Token :)
The Night Does Not Belong To God is a good place to start! They have a couple EPs before Sundowning, but this definitely works. I'm interested to see what a therapist makes of the lyrics!

I hope all Tool fans find them.
"The night belongs to me"
He's slowly piecing it faster than I could when i first discovered them
You’re doing it right. Start at Sundowning and go in order. I hope you love it! Sleep Token is sooo unique and creative. Enjoy the journey, I’ll be here to watch it all!
ep one is correct way to start
You hit it right on the head. This song is definitely a "come to worship" song
2:00 funny thing is that the story in the Sleep Token universe is where the lead singer worships a deity named Sleep
So glad you get to experience Sleep Token for the first time
Sleep Token has EP1 & Ep2 and some other singles before they made their albums.
Sundowning is fine to start with it's the first album of the trilogy. The song the offering is next
You’re going to get addicted to Sleep Token and then have to go to meetings.
I get to WORSHIP & GO TO THERAPY .... such a great MONDAY. ❤😊 and yes SLEEP TOKEN is a master at Tension.
That’s awesome that you reacted to this first, because now you must react to Sleep Tokens last song on their most recent album “Euclid.” It’ll bring THE NIGHT DOES NOT BELONG TO GOD right back around. And maybe explain as well. Very beautiful song.
Not only we all worship here, but one of the musical influences to then is gospel
YES! I’ve been waiting for you to react to Sleep Token… $B & ST is my favorite so this is just absolutely amazing to me
So this has been my favorite Sleep Token song for the last 4 years. Listening through it all and getting to the very end had me full blown tears. When you get to the last song on the last record, remember this song specifically. Excited to see this journey!
I love your takes. I'm a Christian, and I love your comments. More Sleep Token!
They have a very big gospel feel to them, its incredible.
I think starting with the Albums in order is perfect imo. The eps are great too but this is where the real fun begins.
You’re right on the money. Start here work through everything, then album two is “this place will become your tomb”. Take me back to Eden you already are familiar with but that is the third album. Can’t wait to join you on your journey!
Out of every therapist your the one I understand about every video when I relate to a song and watch a video of you explaining them makes me understand my illnesses an background 😢thank you
I am ill😅😢 your really good at your job
Hit the EPs, then go through every song in order. After that, go through the songs again in the order of their teeth of god tour. Mind melting
This is exactly where you should be starting. you can go back to the EPs and earlier songs after you finish the trilogy. If anything, I feel like those songs are more powerful once you have gone down the rabbit hole lol SO HERE FOR THIS!
You have to start at the beginning. But I’m seriously waiting for Blood Sport and Are You Really Ok. I’m so here for this
as someone who started listening to sleep token about 2 months ago, let me tell you, it felt like a spiritual journey ❤
WORSHIP!
So excited to find someone just beginning this journey. I will be here through the whole process. Prepare to have a new favorite band
I can’t wait for you to get your Euclid now, but it’s so far away 😂 love your reactions

"The night belongs to me"... Oh I can't wait for the Euclid reaction!!
This is the perfect place to start!
Church sounds will not go away. There is worship. Worship of *Sleep*
Throughout these songs there are two main characters.
The drummer has said that part of his style has come from gospel drumming
Love this song, you should absolutely react to all of them, but DYWTYLM and Are You Really Okay? are right at the top of my list for any therapist
The next song is The Offering and I love it. This journey is going to blow your mind and we are here to worship!
Ive missed out!!!! You are in for a treat ❤ sleep token is amazing. ENJOY the journey 🎉 #Worship
Hearing this live for the first time this year was phenomenal.
in the way I view this album or this song in particular (and I've noticed others having a rather similar analyzation) is kind of about something or a situation similar to medical condition called Sundowning, hence the name of the album. which is simply (from what I've read) where one would be lost and forget as soon as the sun downs, and it's similar to alzahimers.
Worship
Sleep Token use callbacks in the 2nd and 3rd album. I would listen to the singles, Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, then Take Me Back to Eden.
Just came from your take me back to eden reaction, looking forward to more!!
HE'S STARTING FROM ALBUM ONE LETS GOOO
yes, you're right. The night belongs to you!
If you are ever curious of the lead singers name its vessel! the drummer is II.. bass is III and guitar is IV
I can’t wait till your reaction to their growth on their last album
Oh yeah buddy youre asking all the right questions. Remember these questions when you get to Euclid at the end of the trilogy
And a lot of that is intentional, because it's music that- within its own lore- is centered around a deity.
also you will find out who the night belongs to at the END of this journey.
The offering is my favorite next to gods on this album
Enjoy this wonderful journey, it'll be a rollercoaster which you'll want to enjoy till the deep sleep will finally set in. Worship :)
New subscriber. Can’t wait to follow this journey
Amazing. You’re doing great work! Thank you!
Thank you for doing these 🫶
This man is coming to this Sleep Token experience as a baby and right out of the gate he already cracked the code for who the night belongs to.
And I don’t know if someone will give you the whole playlist but the albums in order are:
Sundowning
This Place Will Become Your Tomb
Take Me Back to Eden
We will all return to worship with you!
You nailed it the night belongs to you
There’s a strong theory that this song links the ‘Sundowning’ theory in Alzheimer’s patients with the lyrics, Google can explain it better than my memory can!
& the other singles that came out prior to sundowning
It has probably been mentioned, but I think it's all an allegory. Is it a lost love? Is it addiction to heroin? Is it the lore of Vessel and the God(ess) Sleep? All I know is that the journey is worth it. The journey is beautiful. WORSHIP.
Euclid will answer your question.
I think that's why fans say " worship'
What you said " the night belongs to me" you'll be floored if you go all the way to the end.
Sleep Token is amazing ❤
This is the best way to start. There IS some connectivity to "praise/worship music" for some. not christian or even religious by any means but i can totally get it. the whole concept is his relationship with the Sleep Deity. if your going on the whole trip its gonna be a wild one. this band got me out of my dark place.
Also you’ll piece the story together as you go. The beauty of it is that probably everyone in this comment section will give you their own interpretation of what each song means. Because it’s largely left open for your own meaning. And later on you may notice that several of his songs aren’t written to someone else but some to himself. DYWTYLM for example.
Wait till you understand what you said. Worship.
Worship.
Atlantic is highly recommend
