Amazing and very interesting job. Back in the day I went with IT field and loved every day. But excitement of the job is not there because first couple of years you get something new everyday but now I've seen everything. Rarely I get something new and exciting. Anyone who's in it and beginning their journey computer forensics is amazing field of adventure every single day and you are making real difference. Good luck white hats.

Digital forensics requires IT skills, but it is not IT work. It is investigative work. I have found the best digital forensic examiners are individuals with an IT background that then get the forensic specific training. There are always exceptions.
I'm very surprised the SGF are doing chip-off / JTAG data acquisition. Rare to need these techniques today, especially with Cellebrite and GrayKey functionality improvements. Nice to have, but not many organizations can afford to dedicate the space or pay for the expertise.

How would you apply for a position doing this? The job description doesn’t just pop out at you computer forensics. No a bad position to look into. Just curious I guess.

I have had a huge interest in work like this for some time now. I currently work in IT for a nursing college. I have my BS in IT and a cert from the college for advance networking. Wondering how I may pivot into this kind of work. Is there certs I can get?

Go for a master’s in cyber forensics or Cybersecurity. St Bonaventure University prepare you within your master’s degree for the harder classes! No need to start over, just pass your classes and get your certifications while on school
