Hmm, I will give it a try. I picked up a set of these from FB marketplace for cheap. I’m hoping to use it mostly for storage over winter, doesn’t seem to be smooth enough for daily use. As a very short person, this will be easier for me than just hooks on the ceiling. Thank you for sharing your install! 😊
Thanks for the video. I installed these. You mentioned it was finicky to get them to go up evenly. I found them more than finicky. And for a heavier bike, I found it a real problem. It wanted to pull up one side more than the other. So as you desribed you have to help it; and the higher it gets the harder it is to help it stay level.
By the way, I don't know if it's after the fact or not, but for inside track club members they are going for seven dollars and something /pop until the fourth of this month... I picked up the last three they had in stock today and just need one more.
@@projectreaDIYI wouldn't have thought. What do you recommend more, this or these utility hooks to hang bikes from? Supposedly they can hold up to 100 lbs
Don’t need a ceiling. If you have a roof, then you should have trusses, which is what these pulleys are screwed into, so you should be fine. You wouldn’t screw it into a ceiling, it wouldn’t likely hold the weight. Your screws are passing THROUGH the ceiling and into the truss, if you have a ceiling. If no ceiling, then go directly into the truss. If somehow you don’t have trusses, then I guess I can’t help, I’m only familiar with truss roof construction.
Add some! We bought my house while it was being built and had them not finish the garage to save some $. We ended up running electrical on our own (with my father in laws help) and doing insulation and tongue and groove pine boards for the walls. It was a little more expensive than drywall and definitely more labor intensive but it came out great
The included instructions didn’t show how to string the line through the locking mechanism so your close-up of this is VERY helpful - thank you!

Thank you for the excellent no fluff instruction.
Came here for the threading of the rope through the brake - Thanks!

Got two for Christmas. I’m thinking of adding a pulley to the wall to keep the rope closer to the wall though.
Maybe just put a loop on the wall so that the rope has to go through it... don't know how this would affect ease of balancing, but it's a thought.
I ended up going the cheap route and put an eye anchor in the stud on the wall. Gave the rope more room side to side.
@@chrisharris9115 right on I was thinking something to that effect... how is it working for you?

Just bought this and your video is a life saver, thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for the video. It helped with my install. I installed them above our suv.
These came with the house I bought a few years ago. I tried using them and realized they sucked, but wondered if it was just me.
It’s not me.
I'm heading out today to buy these and this is exactly what I needed to see!
Thank you, so clear and straightforward.
Excellent video! Thanks for the tips.
Can those bike hoists handle a 70 lbs electric bike?
Would not recommend.
This one not but there's a version for e bikes with higher weight rating and it's twice the price. Same principle, just sturdier.
love it ! thank you for the details 👏
Nice! Now all I need is a $400,000 house with a 12 foot ceiling in the garage.
These "hooks" won't stay under my seat and have dropped the bike twice before relegating it to no more use.
This might work if you have a Corvette. Most people nowadays buy trucks and SUVs. But thanks for showing how this works.
A Toyota Highlander fits under these bikes, but I agree that a truck or full size SUV wouldn't.

Good video, thank you!!
Only thing for me I don’t have a ceiling lol
I'm trying to envision what your house looks like. Doesn't it get rainy inside?

Thanks man.
I wish my garage had drywall

Me too, but this bike lift doesn’t require drywall. It wouldn’t be benefitted by drywall in any way really.
thank you for this video, im not buying this!
😂😂was not expecting this lmao
Lol..why ?
Doesn't seem very good no ?
Exactly
Practically free to make guys, that's what he meant by that
