I think this is a song everyone has been waiting a long time for, and it’s finally here! I really wanted this to be a high note to end the year on, which is why I was working really hard to get it out so soon after Space Age Bachelor Man. I think it paid off, as I am incredibly proud of the final product. I also hope this is enough to stave you all over as I start planning out content for the new year! As I wrap up the Ride the Cyclone series, I’ll be reintegrating some OC content back into this channel, as there has been a severe lack of that lately. I also wanna dip my toes into some fan content for other works, so stay tuned!
I’d also like to announce that there are not two songs left, as I originally said, but now three! After a lot of deliberation and working out the overarching narrative, I made the decision to include New Birthday Song in the official video series. I hope you all won’t be too disappointed waiting a little longer for Sugar Cloud, as I think the less visually intense song in between will really help make Sugar Cloud the best video it can be :0)
Fun fact: I, for the life of me, cannot remember where I saw it, but there was this one production of Ride the Cyclone where their Jane Doe sang on a sort of carousel-esque horse prop due to not having a fly mechanic, and that was what inspired this animatic in its entirety. I was so lost and intimidated by having to do this song, but seeing that just made everything click. I just could vividly imagine Jane lamenting on a carousel, and that’s what led to everything else.
And yes. That is Ezra Lamb. Yes, those are frames from my Legoland animatic. Don’t question the timeline consistency or ask about the multiverse theory, please just feel sad about the fact that Ezra’s sister is currently dead and headless and singing a song in some musical, thank you.

I just found out which production had the original Jane Doe ride a prop horse. It was the Blue Ridge version, which also had the characters portray rides with their umbrellas. Btw, this song makes me cry everytime because Jane Doe never should've died on the 🎢. Nicely done, I must say, it really sent chills up my spine!!👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️

The cut to her doll as she sings "Or is it rotting somewhere with my head" at 0:23 is so sad, but incredibly effective!
I love the look of almost anger on Ocean's face as she watches Jane sing, while the others clearly sympathize with her at 0:42.
Something about the way she just plops down at 2:04 is so cute to me!
The flashbacks at 2:46 making Jane become bitter and upset is just so sad, but incredibly effective emotionally.

I love the carousel imagery at 3:29! I do kind of miss her floating and flying around, but I know that what works on stage may not work in an animated medium, so having the carousel act as a replacement works!
This is the only animatic I've seen that shows Jane not just sad and confused, but _pissed._ She has no memories or personality or anything and she is, in this song, *demanding* that someone tell her who she used to be, so she can have an idea of what life is like. Her clutching her head in frustration at 4:10 conveys this so WELL!
The look of horror, confusion, and sympathy on Ocean's shows her development! At first, she was upset all the attention and sympathy was towards Jane, thinking that the choir vote for her, but at the end, seeing Jane become so confused and bitter that she has nothing and no one gets to her! Seems like Ocean is on Team Jane now! I'm sure she's not gonna have a moment after this song where she's a total jerk and still wants the choir to vote for her! This is the culmination of Ocean's arc and she does nothing rude afterwards, no sir!
All in all, 27/10! You deserve a gold star for making this phenomenal, touching, and heartbreaking animatic! This somehow enhanced the experience that is this song and Emily Rohm's performance in a way I just can't explain! 🤍

As for the floating-I honestly did consider it, but hadn't found a way to get it to work effectively. I'm definitely sure it could work in the realm of 2d animation, and hell I would love to see another artist tackle it in that direction.
Focusing on Jane's anger was a big part for me-especially since I view her *as* Penny rather than it being a reincarnation thing or something like that-and I feel like that's more tonally consistent within the broader context rather than the more sadder interpretations I've seen people utilize. They're not bad interpretations! But not something I find as interesting from a writing standpoint.

I'm fine with the choice to exclude Jane's floating because, again, the carousel imagery is spooky and is still very effective! And perhaps someone _could_ find a way to make the floating work in an animated medium. Who knows!
I also view Jane as always being Penny, and not being reincarnated into Penny (which would make RtC a prequel, rather than a sequel), so her anger was very refreshing and original since, again, most animatics (or the ones I've seen at least) tend to have Jane simply sad, but here, she's shows a wide range of emotions from confusion to sadness to anger, etc.
I agree! While having Jane just be sad is a valid and reasonable interpretation, I feel this animatic makes Jane more complex and interesting, showing her anger at being the way she is.
Again, you're welcome, and it's perfectly fine to ramble! I enjoy hearing about the thought process of people while they make their work, so it's okay with me!

THIS IS AWESOME!! I have already said this before, but I love the way you draw Jane, she looks really pretty. The parts where she´s floating, Ezra appearing in the animatic, the part where she takes off her head, everything is amazing!

@@TheRealBlitzIMP Ezra is the one with the curly hair and glasses, outlined in white and appearing periodically through the animatic! Lore wise, he's a character in Legoland (a play in the same universe as Ride the Cyclone) as Penny Lamb's younger brother ^^

Ohhhhh I love the way you draw Jane!! Her curls and her eyes!! You put emotion in an empty face which is incredible! The choir’s faces ahhhhh so good. Her falling!!!! And holding her dollie!! The anger!! The silhouettes!! The headless body!! The carnival ahh I love this!! Its an amazing interpretation of the scene without 3D aspects!!! I love how her putting her head back on also looks like the Scream by Munch and her trying to block out noise!! Your art is beautiful and I love it so much!!! Just had a dream I was in a little acting camp with rlly cool beds and a girl named Shannon became my friend and her friend Mike decided we play the roles of the pirates in the musical, but before we did the show, we went on a rollercoaster and it broke. Everyone lived except Shannon. I thought this dream was real.

Hehe, thank you ^_^ Legoland was a big part of my intetest in the Uranium Trilogy at the time, so I knew I had to hint at it in some way
@@dovefilms oh yeah I completely forgot that there’s supposed to be something coming after RTC and Legoland, although I know you don’t really see RTC all too positive anymore id love to know your thoughts on the third part in the Uranium trilogy should it come soon.
I'll definitely at least give it a shot-I want to believe that being made in the modern era would give the creators a chance to reevaluate how they utilize dark humor & balance that satirical edge while still not just being outright bigoted- but I fear the latest response to the RTC script changes doesn't leave me too optimistic. Still, it'll be nice to at least see

I used medibang to draw the frames and sony vegas to edit it together ^^! I have a more detailed walkthrough of my process on my channel
@@dovefilms Oh thanks! I've always made frames on iBis paint but never known how to make them into a video
No problem ^^ Since both of those programs I mentioned are PC only, if you're a mobile user, then you should try capcut! It's free and does its job relatively well. I've made shorter animatics on there before, and it's definitely not a bad program. I've heard Flipaclip also does well, but I haven't used it before so take that with a grain of salt
