- Skies of Arcadia continues, as we cross the Southern Ocean to reach a whole new continent, but unfortunately the locals aren't exactly delighted about our arrival, the wildlife wants to eat us, and our old foes the Valuans are already here in force...
Skies of Arcadia is tragically completely unavailable to purchase on any currently existing store, and was also never released on PC. If you want to play it yourself, your options are the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, which were the only releases. Sorry.

I was skeptical when this obscure GameCube game was announced, but this has become my favorite series in a long time.

With the massive power of the Harpoon Cannon, I am not sure why Valua was just selling it to anyone who stopped by, or why none of their ships are using it.

I think this settles it. In case of an animated Skies of Arcadia series, Jon gets to be voice acting for De Loco. That was magnificent.

A lot of the Valuan names are Spanish. Alfonso was the name of many of the Spanish kings, Belleza means "beauty," etc. I think we can reasonably assume they're meant to represent colonial Spain, yes.
So Blue rogues are English privateers? No wonder Jon sympathize with them.

12:05 Funny thing Jon, Pineapples actually DO eat you bacj already! They contain an enzyme called bromaline, which breaks down muscle and connective tissues, and is great for tenderizing meat.
But that is why your tongue feels so raw aftet you've esten a bunch of pineapple.. The pineapple has been trying to eat you in self-defense!

@@katieheys3007 some. But pineapple is the best. Put a tough steak in there for 40 minutes, and it's super tender! More than that though? It starts to disintegrate.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought about this when Jon was getting attacked by the pineapples. I have a love/hate relationship with raw pineapple. I love the taste of it, but I don't love the way that my whole mouth feels like it's been freshly grated if I eat too much of it because of the bromaline.
The De Loco accent was Oscar winning.
You know, I'm really enjoying watching Jon play this JRPG. Anyone else want him to play more on the channel? Maybe grab Claire, Matt, and Dan to play Tales of Symphonia or something?
Legend of Dragoon is in the same nostalgia basket as SoA and could be a good pick.

I remember the south ocean being brutal. Hard to move forward and the enemies can kill in one hit with silver magic. Those leaves blowing in the wind was a beacon of hope.
Always good to watch Jon playing a game he genuinely enjoys.
I completely forgot about the leaves flying in the wind and it's such a nice touch! I didn't realize how much I liked this game. It's too damn charming!

No: Using Agent Orange to kill a jungle
Yes: Using a ship with a giant blowtorch to burn a jungle
in reality, burning down a forest actually creates fertile land for planting and farming crops. Estonians practiced that in ancient times. that's why chemical warfare is inhumane, it poisons everything instead, creating an unusable polluted wasteland.
I also love the soundtrack in the village, one of my favourites.
I mean, I looked up and it turns out you CAN fight Giga, with enough healing and stall strat. OMG, this bring me back to literally all JRPG in the 2000s. The moment I found out I can stall a boss + deal some dmg, I say goodbye to my day cuz how can I miss the feeling of killing GOD as a lvl 10 peasant?
You can beat the green Gigas for sure but the game acts as if you did the strat (probably see Jon do it in two or three episodes from now) but as I remember you can't with the red one as the game just forces you into the Belleza battle after a while.
There's a few fights in this where you can technically win but the game acts as if you lost anyway.

@@katieheys3007 I genuinely hope if they do remaster it, we get some special cutscene for it. But if not, I hope they buff the Gigas instead so that they grow stronger per turn, making it genuinely impossible to fight head on if that was the intent of the fight.

The difference for the ship fight was actually speed based if you were faster you could have dodged the flamethrower had you not knocked him out with the powered up harpoon cannon
The three factor are speed(requires speed boost)dmg related to certain rounds or text choices like the out smarting bella
I think De Loco is a robot that created himself. It's the only explaination that makes sense.
By which I mean it's just as odd as the rest of the little gremlin.

I was about to make this comment too, after Jon talked about the comparison of Valua to 1500s Spain. Makes me wonder if “Valua” is supposed to be valúa, Spanish for value or wealth. Odd name for an empire, but maybe it should translate to “great” or “rich”?

Just arrived, don't know anything about the locals, and already ransacking their sacred treasures? If Vyse ever gets tired of being an air pirate, I imagine there's a promising career waiting for him in the British Museum.
Day 101 of requesting _Age of Mythology_ (A full playthrough if possible)
JRPGs may not always make the most sense when looked at with real world logic, and they may take a strange stance on what it's practical to wear in a combat zone, but dang it if their enthusiasm isn't infectious compared to the way our world wears you down. Imagine if you could solve _your_ day-to-day issues by summoning the power of the moon to burn your enemies!

The Valuans are more like a mish-mash of the famous players of the Age of Exploration, so the Spanish primarily but there's also elements of the British, Dutch and some Italian in there as well.

It's difficult to fully describe how much more charming this game is made by Jon's enthusiasm.
