Everyone laughed at me several years ago when I told them about this. I have used urine to keep deer out of my garden and it works. I was told it only worked if you use urine from a man but that's not true. As a single woman I didn't have an option but obviously the deer can't tell the difference because they stayed away. Glad you did the video because I have a stump in my hen house I need to get rid of. I don't use chemicals so that stump is a thorn to me but now I know how to get rid of it. Thanks Billy.
females produce testosterone too tho less, but i don't know what animals smell tho, pheromones or hormones but i think deer don't care about the gender of a predator tho
Now sure about the sexes for urine effect on animals. But I do know that for women to use urine in the garden they need one of those plastic things that make it possible to pea standing up from what I’ve read and made sense of because this way you get away from the possible contamination from the anus when it drips down due to female anatomy.
@@DaveE99It‘s not difficult if you have one of those composting toilets where the liquids and solids are collected separately. Also, women are capable of squatting down and just peeing. Since our backside is clean before, there won’t be any contamination.

I kid you not, this man isn't lying. I had chickens for some time, and I would occasionally have something pick one off in the dead of the night. I was at work one day when an old farmer had picture of chickens. We struck up conversation about them, and the topic of their disappearances came up. He literally told me to pee in a 5gal Lowe's bucket until it was full, then sprinkle it on the perimeter of my property. I swear, that stuff lasted for weeks after only a single application. Still, do it weekly, but it does work. It keeps all the critter-getters at bay.
Great tip on stumps! I’ll have a lot of them at my new place. When I was in the city, I only had access to leaves for carbon and I would poke holes in the bag of chopped leaves and pour the “nitrogen solution” in and shake it up, which worked great to “precompost “ the leaves before adding them to my big compost pile.for the ladies out there...this is easily done with a big gulp cup from 7-11!😉learned how to do this in the Army during Desert Storm with a poncho on because we had no latrines when I was out on advance party or doing an engineer support mission. Yes, it’s weird to some people, but it’s an amazing amount of free nitrogen. Also worked great to break down straw bales for a straw bale garden experiment that I did. Adding large amounts of this to garden soil long term can add too much salt, but compost microbes and insects can mitigate sodium amounts. It’s for sure cheaper than buying nitrogen!
Bless you for reminding us that we’re all part of a process. Surely we don’t have to apologise for natural functions, and the male of most species marks it’s territory. That’s what you’re demonstrating and teaching us also how we can work with Nature to help break down woody structures using our own naturally created nitrogen. Again, just part of the process. Not weird! I use urine in my regular neighborhood home…the neighbors have no idea! I didn’t know about the stump decomposition, though! Cool, cause I have a stump in mind!
In the mid 90s I volunteered at an appropriate technology center in Guatemala. The outhouse was set up so that urine passed through a hose to a jug outside and we sprinkled wood ash on our poo. After 6 months the seat was moved to an empty side and the full side was capped and composted for 6 months. After 6 months the compost was removed, shaken through mesh wire and deposited in the garden or bagged for later use. It had an earthy smell and didn’t seem gross to hold in our hands like soil. Thx for bringing up the topic. Great video!
The other way I’ve seen it done really well was they use a Methane bio digester or biogas bag, and it can be hooked up to a toilet. So that it gets sucked into it and flushed. Was really efficient. I wonder too if throwing biochar into the composting toilet fixes issues like smell.
And I guess as far as wheather it’s safe or not, a lot of regenerative agriculture preaches constantly looking at soil and compost under microscope. Even a regular person can learn these skills. To a degree to be more certain you could just physically look at samples of the waste😊

I have a six feet high privacy fence around my sides and backyard here in central Florida , so recently I discovered that if I pee on the sand spur weeds they die pretty fast.

Its difficult because nobody (except head of household)*/tends to deal with it...or better said none wants to handle the chore! (it isn't up on the top of the list of chores for me)😂
I live in a small lot subdivision, yet close to open areas so I get deer in my yard especially when their food is scarce. So I have used urine for a perimeter repellant from time to time. One day I came home to find my neighbor taking pictures of my front yard. Up close she pointed out 3 deer at once munching away on my flora. I mix fruit trees, veggies, herbs, edible flowers right into my gardens along with regular flowers and shrubs. (My kids call it my grass eradication project.) It works. I do not put it directly on anything edible. A few month ago I had a bear siting in my driveway feasting on one of my overloaded apple trees. This is a good reminder to be proactive for that in future years. Also may be good idea if I have to have a garbage can with meat scraps out to the curb overnight.
"That's when I really started experimenting with it" LOL Mannnnn I had a good laugh at this - thank you for all of the great information boss - you definitely have me reconsidering our waste cycles on the farm.
I use my own urine on my trees... I just pee straight on the ground and then just water a little bit to dilute it. Works great. My fruit trees are always full of blossoms.
I have a residential lot in a small town. Since the house is currently unoccupied (yard kept mowed, though). There is a small herd of deer that frequent the yard, and I was searching for info on urine and a deterrent for when I eventually move in. That is how I stumbled on your channel and this useful information.
I'm a hunter and we urinate under our mock scrapes to bring the deer in. Under 12hrs the deer will think it's another deer. Go to a barber shop and get hair or use dryer sheets. That's how we keep them from destroying our apple trees
Turning a liability into an asset is the name of the game. Why throw away valuable nutrients just because someone else thinks it's icky. Great tips! Definitely do proper research before using human waist, but as chemical fertilizer becomes more expensive and proved to be less effective long term, it's great to be thinking about how to maximize the resources you have. Thank you!
In central California I had a problem with cougars, bobcats, and coyotes. When male guests needed to pee, I requested that they select a perimeter tree, and apply it as HIGH as possible. The cats shredded my Posted signs....in retaliation??? BTW, the male Jack Russel terrier stands on its front paws, to pee higher up on the tree...implying a much taller dog. Zoos also sell Lion Urine, which I am told works VERY well as a deterrent. -M
I have used urine on compost but hadn't thought of the other uses. Good ideas. Now if it would work on sage brush. I may have to try that. I have so many sagebrush and they have good roots. I have had many people tell me I shouldn't kill them and I just tell them they can dig them up and plant them in their yard that way they can admire them all the time. So I will try cutting them off and using urine to see if it will kill them.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 I will certainly try. I have found that a very strong vinegar mixed with a small amount of orange oil will kill sage but it can run into big bucks.
This topic is absolutely fine as it's a natural act, it saves on water 💧 being flushed down the sewer while having a use for the compost 🤷♀️ I visited a garden centre in Kent, UK 🇬🇧 and they had a shallow hay bale where people could wee 😏 and I must say that they had a spectacular garden of vegetables, fruits and herbs 🤗 I may just try this out 🤔🤗

Rose Ehnie we had the same problem back in Texas. We had neighbors that would just let the vicious dogs roam and destroy everybody else’s property. I had to put up a perimeter fence of woven wire just to put a stop to it.
@@Rosethatwantstomove : In Tennessee it’s legal to shoot them on your property. Ive called the dog catcher once, and so far the neighbor has kept his dog in his yard. My LGD has a great, deep bark which seems to keep that other dog away too. Im glad because I’m not anxious to shoot it, but I will if I have to.
I have used my own magical elixir for a few purposes. We have coyotes that cross through our woods, sometimes, on a path we call the coyote highway. I created a fresh deposit once and the highway traffic ceased for quite a while. Second, it is sometimes deposited in fallow garden beds. It is nitrogen. I do not use it when growing something that will be eaten, or even when it will soon be planted. But it adds nitrogen and the strength gets tempered a bit with a little time. It also has minerals. Your body uses and needs plenty of minerals, and how do you think it gets rid of minerals that it no longer has use for? They all pass through your bladder. What follows my deposits grows well almost always, I just give the deposits some time before using the beds. I also will add it to my compost pile and let it temper there. I know a few permaculture fans that do not like not using any nitrogen or carbon that leaves their body. I prefer to use modern plumbing for my carbon emissions, but once during a plumbing emergency, it went into the compost pile too, with a little limestone to keep things from being too fragrant. Just watched my first couple of your videos. Enjoyed them. Plan on watching more. Thanks.
Didn't know about the use of urine as a natural 'stump-grinder.' Useful, thanks for that. I do use my own urine around apple trees, thornless blackberries, and some other fruit plants - to deter deer from hogging all the fruit and stripping leaves. They can be a menace for that where I am. I have tried to encourage my lads to save their urine in containers outside, but they forget, or it's more convenient to just use indoor facilities. Pity, given what you say about the concentrated hormone levels. I'll try again with them. When my dad was a boy, his parents were very keen and competent vegetable growers, and what they used to have was a movable outdoor privy in the garden. Dig a pit, place the privy over it, a shovelful of garden soil over your 'business,' when it was almost full, fill in the rest with garden soil and move on - which would save all the effort and disgust of clearing and moving human solids from a more permanent structure.
Amparo Mejala i’m glad you mentioned that because I didn’t want to deal with the controversy of using it in the vegetable garden. It does, however, work.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 I don't see the controversy. Everything on this planet has evolved to protect and nourish mother Earth by creating ecosystems. Humans are the only pests on this planet who is destroying it.

So, great info about how to use it for stumps. I'm wondering, if there's only 2 of us and we have 35 acres of timber and stumps to go along with those - can I use other sources of cheap nitrogen of I have it? In short, is it just the nitrogen that is breaking or down or something more in the urine?
I can’t say for sure but my best hypothesis is that the high nitrogen in the urine is doing most of the work. As far as “other sources of cheap nitrogen“ it would depend on what they are and where those sources came from.
pure household ammonia ( nothing added for cleaning power etc must read the label before buying it. BUT its very concentrated so watch youtubes to understand the absolutely necessary massive dilution.

Very educational with something thats free and plentiful
Excellent video. I try not to waste anything, including my own "waste". People should be talking about this!
So glad I've found your videos...blessings brother
Lol……. Pressure sprayer would be awesome in this application. You can set it to straight stream… love your videos…😜
You can concentrate the nitrates and also make gunpowder.
brilliant video, very useful.. and funny uk
Good idea and thanx for the tip!
Everything's you said is truly the natural way. Keep it up !
Amparo Mejala Thank you!
i been looking for ways to get rid of stumps!!!!!
Thanks PIMP!!!!
Stump remover. Awesome! Thanks
Its also great as a fertilizer diluted 8-10:1. David the Good did a comparison to miracle grow
I like your work and detailing
Philani Sibanda thank you!
So happy i ran into ur video n channel. You're super educational and entertaining. THANK YOU!!
I’m checking out your channel now, very good content!
Love it!!!!
Thank you!
Thanks for the courageous video! Tip#1 is brilliant!
Not gross at all. Thanks for your good sense and advice 🙂👍
Very good video! I love the humour of it! And the information! Thank you!
Great timing! We just started researching this very topic today. Thanks for sharing 👍
Country Homestead Preacher Thanks for watching!
Thank you for information
Did I really just watch a video with a guy walking around holding a jug of urine? Great content as usual and definitely a topic worth addressing.
Ha ha! I agree…not something you see often.
"The Humanure Handbook" by Joe Jenkins is an excellent resource.
Lynda Buchholz let me know if it works please.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 I will certainly try. I have found that a very strong vinegar mixed with a small amount of orange oil will kill sage but it can run into big bucks.
Funny You just answered my question on what to do with the urine from compost toilet Great information! Thanks 👍🏻
This topic is absolutely fine as it's a natural act, it saves on water 💧 being flushed down the sewer while having a use for the compost 🤷♀️ I visited a garden centre in Kent, UK 🇬🇧 and they had a shallow hay bale where people could wee 😏 and I must say that they had a spectacular garden of vegetables, fruits and herbs 🤗 I may just try this out 🤔🤗
Would love to see some controlled measurable experiments show the results of your ideas.
Coincidentally, the leaves of the plants around the stump was a nice shade of green.
I have 2 stumps & I have pit bull messing w my chickens + some other critters doing the same. Thanks for the insight
Rose Ehnie I’m not sure this trick works on domesticated dogs.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 the neighbors let the pit run free to cross the road to harass my animals, 1 is my elderly 13yo dog. I have a large live trap for it gets into. I don't know how many chickens it's killed. She's friends w the dog catcher. The dog will take a ride to outside the county. The owner is habitual liar. I'm wanting to get goats or couple steers next yr & that pit needs to stay on its side of the road
Or get couple hogs & have no evidence left
Rose Ehnie we had the same problem back in Texas. We had neighbors that would just let the vicious dogs roam and destroy everybody else’s property. I had to put up a perimeter fence of woven wire just to put a stop to it.
@@Rosethatwantstomove : In Tennessee it’s legal to shoot them on your property. Ive called the dog catcher once, and so far the neighbor has kept his dog in his yard. It chased the elderly neighbor lady back from her mailbox. I chased the dog away with a huge stick and yelling at it. But if it returns, my .22 is loaded and sitting next to the door. My LGD has a great, deep bark which seems to keep that other dog away too. Im glad because I’m not anxious to shoot it, but I will if I have to.
Agree bro urine great for leafy crops bro lettuce patchoi mix in water
Thanks.
Billy, re: stump drilling - how deep do you drill down into the stump?
Glen S about 3” is plenty.
Too many Joes picked up the "peeing in a bottle" habit in OIF/OEF. Just needed a good use for it...other than leaving it in their hooch.
Ha ha!
Awesome information! Thanks a ton - that was great!
Works awesome for termite control. ... best if allowed to rest in a sealed container for two weeks prior to application.
appreciate this video so very much! Knew about using diluted as fertilizer but didn't know about the tree stump..ty!
I like some of these ideas
I haven't heard of the predator repelling use, but it makes sense! What sort of predators do you have around there? Coyotes?
We used to before we had a livestock guardian dog.
what do the chickens do with the compost?
LOL... can I say that all I keep thinking about is the old Red Cross' tag line... "It's in you to give"....
Hi, we're using this also mix with water in our flowering beds and vegetables. No worms nor aphids . Good job, I just remember this way back home.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 Though I wouldn't recommend poop. They need to go into the ground and dry for a long time before it becomes compost.
Also, I've never done these. I don't grow plants. But I do piss on mature, old trees sometimes since everyone recommends it here.
@@TheFourthWinchester I see your point but not all humans are the problem my friend.
that was very informative, been collecting urine to use to fertilize my sweet corn bed but it never occured to me to use it for territorial pissing xd
i had issues with some male street cat who had eaten my baby chicks last year, i think i might use to deter it from breaking in when chicks hatch next time
I want to do the same thanks for this video I really appreciate it.
Can you inoculate biochar with it? Will it kill a mesquite stump?
I’m not sure regarding the biochar but I would bet money that it kills in Mesquite stump.
4/9/22 Viewing; loved it. Do you think that splashing urine wherever would keep coyotes away from your property?
Just found your channel and am really enjoying it. Would a spray bottle be a little neater? Semper Fi.
That’s a fantastic idea my friend! Welcome aboard!
Thanks so much Billy. Good common sense talk!
Brilliant video Brother...
