Love the vintage BMWs. Pure functionality that can last many decades. Nothing like this has been made by any other company. I own vintage bikes from Japan and all have their issues.
beautiful collection! i put my 1956 R60 on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2016 for a record of 92.8575 mph, top average speed was 96.072. impressive for a motorcycle of this age. these bikes were made to last!
I see it is quite a long time ago that this video was made. However, it brings back many memories of the time I worked as a mechanic, back in the 50´s, in London, on most of the models you have in your excellent collection! In fact I worked on the R69S´s (two) that entered and won the Thruxton 500. One, unfortunately caused the rider problems with the gearchange lever reversed for racing but the other model came home a glorious winner!! We all felt very proud that day!! Great collection!!
Brings back memories of my Company's Weapons Platoon Leader, Bedinger, mounting an M-60 to the sidecar front railings of his 1960 BMW. There were loads of Instamatic photos taken of it. Former Sgt. William"Rock"Gilpin 82nd Abn. Inf. Div. 11B4P (71-74)
I had a 1957 R-26, 250cc - traded it off for a scrambles bike in '62. Of all the bikes I've owned, I'd like to have that one again. It's cylinder/head combination was virtually the same as the 1950 R-51. It supposedly had 15 hp but would cruise effortlessly at 55 - 50 mph. The later R-60 and R-69 shown here have, as I recall, a larger than standard fuel tank. The R-60 was almost a dedicated side-car model as it was sold back in the day. My R-26 had sidecar lugs made onto the frame also. The R-26 also had the double leading shoe brake on the front and straight spokes. These machines were built so, so well. Totally usable for today's standards though not sporting as the current market tends toward.
Aaah, the one that got away. Mine was an R 60/5 which left after my house burned down and I needed the money to rebuild. It was beautifully built and ran like a sewing machine up to 105 mph where it would merrily sing all day.
I have a 2014 BMW RnineT and it is probably the best bike I have ever bought perfect for the city and just jumping on and going for a spin,, I'll never sell it,,
Really great collection. It's a dream to have all the items of each Serie 2. I do like your french accent M. Garcin, je comprends vraiment mieux l'anglais !
Thank you for the video,, ,I have had a 1968, r60 US, that I restored, a 1960 r50, that I restored and a 1966 r60 . that i am presently restoring, this video jumpstarted my restoration efforts, THANK YOU !!! p.s.(i hate you!!!)😛
The 53 R68 is the best of his bunch, in my opinion. Beautiful. If I could be given any BMW motorcycle from their first to the newest today, this one would be it.
