  • Jim Croce -Bad Boy Leroy Brown Lyrics
Well the south side of chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
    You better just beware
Of a man named leroy brown
    Now leroy more than trouble
You see he stand 'bout six foot four
All the downtown ladies call him "treetop lover"
All the mens just call him "sir"
And it's bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
    Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog
    Now leroy he a gambler
And he like his fancy clothes
And he like to wave his diamond rings
    In front of everybody's nose
    He got a custom continental
    He got an eldorado too
He got a 32 gun in his pocket for fun
He got a razor in his shoe
And it's bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
    Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog
Well friday bout a week ago
    Leroy shootin' dice
And at the edge of the bar
    Sat a girl named doris
And ooh that girl looked nice
Well he cast his eyes upon her
    And the trouble soon began
And leroy brown learned a lesson
'bout messin' with the wife of a jealous man
And it's bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog,
Well the two men took to fightin'
And when they pulled them from the floor
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle
With a couple of pieces gone
And it's bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
    Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

I remember playing a 45 of this song over and over when I was 8 or 9.
...and now I am again at 51. I've just played this song 5 times in the last 45 minutes. LOL
The reason music was so much better in the '70s (and '80s) was because groups wrote a lot of their own music, many of them played there own instruments, there wasn't much lifting of tunes from previous music, they actually sang live on TV shows, they were talented enough that their concerts and TV appearances sounded very close to the album version of songs the songs that had become popular and there was no autotune to disguise bad singers.

Why was music in 1973 so much better than now?

    • @ScottWildTornadoSponge
      @ScottWildTornadoSponge 9 років тому +40

As a 16 year old responding, it's because people back then knew art. They knew how to make a song sound good for generations. Today, all that people care about in the music industry is booty, ass, twerking, cussing, etc. And also due to Autotune, the songs sound shiter. Don't get me wrong, not all songs today are like that, but it was certainly better 40 years ago than now.

Classic R&B Piano tempo - blended so perfectly catchy w/ acoustic, sound and tempo changes, & one of the catchiest chorus hooks of all time! This was my favorite song in the mid-70's when I was a young kid...my parents would take me out for dinner with them sometimes to a piano bar - the guy playing asked what my favorite song was....I said "Bad Boy Leroy Brown" - it was soooo cool how he played it! -everyone in the place sang with the lyrics (esp. the chorus), people started dancing & and the place went NUTS! One of my funnest memories as a very young kid...and it's Still Bad-Bad!!!

When I was 11 there was an piece done on him and his wife, home footage, how in love they were etc. Then I woke up to the news that his plane went down. I just remember being crushed, and I felt so bad for his wife. My love for his music has never died, he had so much more to give, although at the time of his death he was talking about giving it all up because he hated being away from his wife so much

Except for Jim Croce, who exemplified the class of life he came from and was very natural in his stage presence, and very few others; except for them, musicians should always be heard and not seen. Music videos became much more common in the 80s, but they started in around the 60s. Most of the time with the early ones it was just the band playing the song on a stage or out somewhere though. You didn't see more fantastical ones till the late 70s and 80s. my knowledge on that is a little hazy though, I remember hearing it somewhere. In fact some of the early more fantastical 80s music vids were made to be played as accompanying footage behind the band at concerts and were not meant to be music vids.

I remember seeing this on the Sonny and Cher Show on a Sunday night back in the early 70s. Damn, I wish there were still programs like than to watch because they always had awesome musical guests. The Smothers Brothers and Ed Sullivan were two others along with The Midnight Special and....geez, I could go on for a while! Thanks for this perfect upload.

Hahaha, this song reminds me, I weight lifted for eleven years, then became an alcoholic. Then in the recovery program, the guy who ran the recovery program, was like literally, looked the same as me, but 1/3rd bigger in every dimension. I was like, "mini-me", and I'm 6 feet tall, 250 pounds. It looked like he could have clapped my head flat.

In just this song it has “Called him treetop lover”, he gambled and drank. Todays music isn’t just that btw, there’s a pretty wide variety lol. Look at Sufjan Stevens for example, or the song “Beyond” by Leon Bridges for one specific song. I’d say there’s more personality and stories in music then ever before if you try to look even a little
Also on a more general note it’s incredible to see people react to modern music the same way their parents reacted to rock music. Man the lack of self-awareness
