Good explanation on angle. This explains why I was getting 3715 fps from a 25ACP Barretta (from a very light projectile

👋🏾 very informative video brotha. If you work on guns and tune them you must have a chrony. Thanks for posting 👊🏾😎

Thanks, a definite must have piece of equipment. I had rendering issues, wanted it to go smoother but after fighting with it for a few days I posted what I got this time when rendering it. You need a chronograph for sure, I see people doing the "angle" thing all the time, by testing it I found out how much of a huge difference that makes. How many people have wanted to shoot their chronograph after fighting with it, I know I have a few times until I applied a little knowledge, it runs pretty smooth now. Thanks for commenting and your support bro, I really appreciate it.

Not a problem. I thought it would be a good idea since I did some searches here on YT and even though you can find some info on them they don't go into any great detail or explain too much, sort of a, "Get one and shoot through it to get your speed" deal, but after owning one and using it for a while you find out there's definitely more to it than that, so tah dah, this video was born. I sort of reversed the math on the calculations, or shown what the pellets or slugs would be doing if they were moving between the sensors at the speed set for 900 fps would be by extending it, normally instead of 0.001111 seconds to get through the sensors the time would be different, but a little more time, nobody has said anything about the math on that yet, lol. But, either way, you do it by having an extreme angle, or even smaller angles instead of being level you will most definitely see the difference, it makes your speeds different than what they really are. I never mentioned the need for a ballistics program, but you will need one, I use chairgun, it's free and works great, there are many out on the market, a lot you have to pay for but chairgun is as good and free so you'll want to download that to get your numbers. When you get it give me a holler if you need any help.

@@bigjsoutdoorsairguns9007 Not a problem, I told you where to get the BC for most ammo, didn't I? That's all you really need, that with the distance between the middle of your barrel and the middle of your scope lens (front) along with your speed and it will do the rest. You can adjust it for angles suck as shooting up in trees and so forth, but it is really easy, you won't have a problem, just knowing what to plug into the program and, bingo, you're in there.

Excellent. Great tip for cleaning dusty sky screens!
I've been using the Caldwell Precision Chronograph.
I like that it does not have a sleep function as I often switch rifles to keep the barrels cool.
Since I am often switching rifles between shoots, I do not like the chronographs that attach to a barrel such as the Magneto.
Rifle muzzle blast can affect the chronograph, so it should be >=15 feet from the muzzle.
An inexpensive laser bore sighter helps determine exactly where the rifle is pointing in setup. Level bubble should be used in setup.
I mount the tripod on a sheet of plywood and level that sheet in all directions.
Accuracy is +/- 0.03% so if every shot is exactly 3,000 fps, reading will vary ~2991 to 3009 fps.
With the Caldwell, error code ERR2 means the first sensor did not detect the projectile,
ERR3 means the second sensor did not detect the projectile.
With an optical chronograph like the Caldwell, correct readings are difficult when the sun is low, like near sunset time of day.
Using a smart phone with the Caldwell requires settings change to allow Caldwell app permissions.
With a bolt action rifle, remove the bolt and look down the barrel to make sure you do not shoot the chronograph!

Thanks for the comment, and additional info. For air guns you normally don't have the issue of the barrel heating up, most are shrouded as well which makes it even less likely to have any heat issues. Regulated guns work best when giving the regulator a few seconds to recover as well which pretty much gets rid of heat issues.
I didn't go into the one I use too deep considering it is a more generalized look at different types of chronographs. I would like the FX model but my Caldwell does what I need it to do and I can buy quite a few of them for the price. Mine still works fine so I still with it until accidently kill it, I've been lucky and only skimmed the top by the second sensor a couple of times, something I did after making this video, lol, kid you not, I'd never hit it and it wasn't days after making this that I clipped it a few times.
Thanks again, have a good one.

I did learn some great tips and a little history also! Thanks! As soon as I can get my shit into gear (hopefully next week?!?!) I'll have my channel up and running. I've been recording videos and cataloging just need to get a few more things worked out. I hope I can send some people your way. I'm having fun with the green screen, needed to pull the wrinkles out more on some of this one. I appreciate it, but I'm not sure about a tv show, I'm not going through that much effort with it, lol. It definitely makes a better background than what I've been working with, I'm happy with it, I'll probably get a green sheet or something cheap because the material with this isn't the greatest, but it works. I'm happy that I can now do better vids inside, camera looks like it does a pretty good job, I have to get outside now and see how it works. It has nightvision and that works great, it also has motion detection to use as a security camera, or whatever else. I'm happy with it for a hundred bucks.

I can usually find some that work, except for 9 volt, I don't have any of those that recharge,, I keep an extra one in my hunting bag for my range finder, it eats batteries, but if I need one I can grab that one and try to remember to replace it.

I'm surprised to hear that LED lights work for chronographs. They do oscillate at a given frequency -- and I thought this would certainly affect accuracy. Ever shine an LED flashlight at a fan and have it appear to run very slow or stand still?

    • @slowpokeairgunner4027
      @slowpokeairgunner4027  2 роки тому

There's about a 5 ft per second difference (slower) between under LED's and outdoors. I can't remember what I did in this video, but I tested it a few times with different guns. I tried a Lil' Duke BB gun, and some pellet guns, they all ran right at 5 ft per second. I had read it but had to test it myself. Other lighting, because of the movement (flashing) knocks the sensors off, you want it to stand still if possible, thus the reason LED lights are best indoors. I did some reading, video watching, and personally testing things myself before doing this video, it's accurate from what I came up with.
