I just finished listening to your "History of Superman in the Golden Age" and enjoyed listening to that Podcast and now I just finished listening to this one and enjoyed them both very much. Keep up the good work or in this case I should say the "Super" work that you two do on these Podcast here on You Tube!!

Agreed, and I do hope you do a Golden Age Batman and Wonder Woman, as well as Jay Garret and Alan Scott!! In fact, I'm requesting those episodes of Geek History Lesson!

Chad Lupkes This is series worthy. There were so many incredible stories and characters back then that are either ignored or have been forgotten about now. I can't help but feel that a specifically themed Geek History Lesson style of show/podcast would/could be the perfect platform to bring those stories and characters to new people in the fun, respectable and well researched way that Jason does.

I love all of the weird covers in the silver age. Where he has a giant head, or is fat or whatevef. They were fun, and i like buying the ones from the 60's at the comic store.

I think the saddest one was with Lee Quigley the baby superman in the opening credits of Superman The Movie who died from solvent poisoning.

Just to be clear, he died at the age of 14 in 1991. He didn't die as a baby. Still tragic, but important to reference that he lived way after his appearance as Kal-El.

I am surprised that you did not consider the issue where Wonder Woman lost her powers as the start of the Bronze Age. I thought that issue started it, and it slowly spread throughout DC, with Superman and Batman being the last characters affected.

Generically speaking as far as comic books as a whole, the silver age ends when the bronze age begins, HOWEVER the true ending and beginning of ages is a specific thing to DC. It was the "silver age" Superman that was in Crisis On Infinite Earths and it was that event that ended their silver age characters, so technically DC's silver age ended with that event.

I've always felt the death of Gwen Stacy marked the end of the silver age, but I can see arguments for Perez's Titans and Crisis also

I see this is years after your comment; but to me, the Silver Age ends with Green Lantern/Green Arrow w/ Adams and O’Neill.

Ashley, how do you feel about the krypto the superdog tv show

  • @Velvet_Intrigue

I prefer Superman remembering Krypton, mostly because of his Super-intelligence and super memory. I feel like those 2 powers should be inherent in all Kryptonians on Kryptons. It should be a natural ability. I always liked that panel from the golden age that showed that the average Kryptonian child could do calculus before they were 5.

    please educate mr
golden age is beginning to 60's?
    silver age 60's - 80's?
    bronze age 80's to ?? ?
    and what age now?

  • @ChadLupkes

I appreciate the idea of the tone of comics being the dividing line between ages, but I have to disagree. To me it's continuity that makes a difference. Green Lantern / Green Arrow and Teen Titans are both part of the Silver Age Pre-Crisis continuity, and while many of those stories and characters are referenced as happening and alive post-Crisis because they didn't completely start everything from scratch like they did with the New-52, it was a reset of the DC Multiverse. So unless Bronze is just going to be a way to reference comic tone, I don't see it as a completely new AGE in the comics, just a period of time within the Silver Age itself. Love the commentary though.

Prefer the toddler Superman, being a baby makes the outsider feeling a contrivance while the toddler thing gives him a look at krypton and subconscious Earth isn't home feeling.
