You see him for the first time in Diablo 4, and you’re like, “Hell yeah, it’s the Butcher!!! Let’s waste him!” And then, he destroys you, and you change your tune to something like, “HOLY SH*T!” That is, of course, why we love him. There’s a raw emotion about facing down such a vicious enemy: a visceral feeling of both dread and excitement when you encounter him, paired nicely with a sprinkling of nostalgia.
I used to run when he showed up. But my bonespear necro can pretty much pop him like a balloon in nightmare 55 dungeons. I just find a wall and toss four or five spears and he goes boom lol. When I first heard "FRESH MEAT" in early days of D4 I was so excited, it was such a challenging and epic fight. Really good to see him return to his rightful glory.
Man I remember the 1st time we meet the Butcher on Diablo 1. Me and my buddy were playing couch coop on PS1 when we descend to Cathedral lvl 2 and find this small interesting room filled with bodies on the spike. And when we open the door we were shocked someone shouted "FRESH MEAT". Imagine you just started the game (cathedral lv1) then you face this horror. Good thing we got town portal and lots of red potion that time😂
He's a badass indeed. I only ran into him 1 time on the way to level 100 about level 35 and he annihilated me. But then as soon as I tried Nightmare 100 in 2 of my first 3 level 100's nightmare's he popped and I killed him both times. I'd almost forgotten he was in the game. I'd love to have him pop a little more frequently as he definitely gets the adrenaline rushing. Just like in Diablo 1 when he can rushing out of that door "FRESH MEAT" I damn near pissed myself !!!!! Fucking EPIC !!!!
hey quick coment but the censor sound at 9:51 is waaaaay too loud when using headphones. Like your voice is very calm and relatively low tone so the switch to this high pitched high volume sound is jaring.
Imagine fighting him on the 2nd floor of the very first section of the game back in 1997. Just lalalalal learning the game lalalala. What’s in this room? 😮😮😮😮
1 life left about to finish the Tier 100 nightmare dungy had already used the altar of health laying outside the boss chamber to clear some mobs to finifh objective before the last boss.. I opened a small coffer/chest for extra pot before walking into the boss Lair .....the wall yells "Fresh Meat".... lol😅 I'm like TYPICALLL...... he made me into a burrito before I even stepped in to the final boss
I feel like The Butcher is a direct reference to Pudge from Warcraft/DoTA, there's just way too many similarities. 1: They're both stitched up and have staples in their bodies holding their skin together. 2: They walk the same 3: They both use a cleaver and a hook as their weapons 4: They both use their hook to pull you back towards them if you get too far away 5: Here's the main one - Both of their main phrases are "Fresh Meat!"
The Butcher is from Diablo 1 (1997), released before Warcraft 3 (2002). If anything, Pudge is based on the Butcher and not the other way around. In Diablo 1, your attacks can get cancelled by enemy attack and when you try to run, his attack will pull you back making escape difficult if you're underleveled which will happen often to new players in their first playthrough. He is also the final boss for Diablo demo which due to no enemy respawn, is harder to beat than Diablo in the main game.
Those poor Butcher-demons...they just want to rip and tear until its done and some random main character kills them before they can do that. Life is truly unfair, man.

Eh in d4 the butcher can drop a cosmetic cleaver for your horse, the weapon is just something all elites and bosses can drop including the Butcher.
I've got his cleaver at 810 on my barb, works wonders in pvp zone.
