I have listened to this hundreds of times. It takes me to who I am. Thank you Martin Shaw for bringing this story, your story telling skills, and good fellowship to this public sphere where we can find it.
I am learning from these stories about both, feminine side and masculine side, i see them evolving together in these stories. Thank you and keep them up please :)
Feeding this story: they sang the old Songs and they danced the old dances and they survived the night. My take is that is what me and my fellow men are doing right now to survive this hostile night of an overly feminine culture (no offense towards femininity obviously)
I have searched through both Parker's and Hewitt's compilations of Seneca folk tales, and I cannot find the Listener. Can someone direct me where to look for it ? I would be very thankful. Very. :)
Early in the telling, Martin tells you that you won't find this on the internet. Well, times change, but when it was told in this lodge, it was not yet recorded anywhere. Martin has sought out stories like this by spending time in the wilderness and hearing them spoken, memorizing them, making it part of him. Up until a few years ago, the recordings were made for "personal use", for the people who attended the events and wanted a reminder. But, like I said, times change.

This is precisely what is missing from the way we raise young men.

Man it was a bad idea to listen to this while riding my bike somewhere. I keep stopping taking notes of my epiphanies
