    Hi Skatie! I am just attempting the three turn but my wheels have a lot of grip -85- and it’s very hard to me to move the skate stepping the floor. May this be the reason I can’t turn? Or I should still be able to do it? Thanks! 🥰

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  Рік тому +1

      It is definitely harder with a soft wheel as you have to put more weight forwards to lift the back wheels of the ground more otherwise as you’re experiencing, they catch on the turn. These types of turns are definitely easier with harder wheels.

    Is twisting your hips helping with the turn

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  Рік тому

      The lower half must go at the same time so if thinking of taking the hips helps you then absolutely do it that way.

    oh yeah !!!! Now were rolling ! This is one of the hardest things for me to do is a three turn. About a year ago I tried to do this in a parking lot with a bit of a slope to it, i was using a light pole as you are doing the chairs, & for the first time I ended up falling backwards, feet went up in the air and fell on my head so hard that it broke my helmet. Thank God I had the helmet on. I told myself I would never ever do that again until I safely new how to do it inside first. Thank you so much for this video !

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 роки тому +1

      Oh wow! So glad you had your helmet on! Ouch. Take it slow and make sure you’re stable on one foot backwards and forwards before you try it rolling xx.

    Hi, is there an easier way to learn the 3turn? i am dead scared. This is the only thing remaining from my grade 3. Are there other drills i have to be able to do before the 3turn ?

    • @Skatie

      Have you tried my pivots video. They are the same skill technically but because they tend to be done stationary you can build them up with 1/4 turns first.

    For the forward inside 3 in figure skating it would be advanced to do an inside 3 with the free leg not behind the skating leg. I never attempted it. It's harder to check and keep your balance. Now for quads is it a matter of preference or is it easier for the free leg to be away?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  Рік тому

      The inside free on quads the leg is held static so start behind and remain in place so once the skating foot has turned the leg is in front. Taking the leg around to the back creates a lot of swing and the heavy skate is more likely to pull you off balance.

    Hi Katie, excellent video, thanks! Do you have any instruction for doing backward to forward 3 turns? I've got all four forward nailed now, but as a former ice figure skater (40 years ago now lol), I'm a bit confused about how to do a backward to forward one. Is it just "lifting" the toe as you turn? I have tried this a few times and it eels very unsteady.
    Thanks 🙂

      It’s one of the harder moves as it’s the one foot balance. Practicing manuals can really help with balance for this move.

    Uh Oh Coach…@1:58 secs you start to alternate the inside and outside turns. You mentioned to have the weight forward (on the right ball of the foot lifting the heel) to then execute the turn. And then from the other side, to have the weight forward on the ball of the foot to then execute the turn back into the original starting position…but I thought for one of those turns you said to do on the heel. Just a lil confused and could use some clarity. Of course I can’t find that spot in the video now but I’ll keep lookin.
    Thank You
    EDIT: Found it…it’s @1:28 and it’s to execute the forward inside (I think). Lol

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  Рік тому

      They’re both done on the ball of the foot. I do say slip the heel round, maybe that’s the confusion. By that I mean those wheels lift so they can slip around just meaning lift them slightly. Definitely both done on the toe wheels which makes them fit together so nicely.

    Just found your channel! I have tend to extend my free leg and use it a bit like a weight? I have 6 of 8 threeturns but really need practice putting them together with other moves. I've also been thinking of investing in a dance skate (currently skate an older model Risport) yours are so pretty 😍

      I’d saying the moving part of this skill is definitely more intermediate to advanced. But the static section is much more beginner and helps with balance. Don’t get disheartened, this is definitely not an easy one xx.

    Still working up my confidence on wheels... I used to love doing this on ice... But that's my discipline. You'd think I'd prefer inline skates, however I really dislike modern in-lines that I keep trying to get it together on my quads. I thought I'd like the 101As... I've even tried it on phenolics, but I still don't feel steady enough. After 2 years back on wheels, I still feel too much pull of the wheels. However, I'm more confident carving a hill outdoors, so I know it's coming... I just gotta stay patient and disciplined.
    I have spent more time on ice in my younger years, than on pavement. Even a frozen pond, lake, or even in the street. I miss those days. Its about the only time I can say I loved living in Alaska. Never had to go far for ice. Now that I live in Southern California, I live nowhere near ice, nor even an indoor rink. So, I keep trying on quads... I have every wheel imaginable... And none of them compare to ice.

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  Рік тому +1

      If you’re looking for super slick wheels have you tried the D scale? With rollers you’ll need to press harder over on the inner and outer wheels to get the edges. With ice the weight stays move central on the blade with a lean. Make sure to employ the foot and really lean so those wheels bend together. Make sure your trucks are nice and flexible too.

    • @Krisstofers
      @Krisstofers Рік тому

      @@Skatie thanks for the info! I'll give them a go! I bet it's also because I haven't tried loosening up my back trucks yet. I'm almost afraid to loosen them up too much. But everything in due time. Just taking it slow and steady.
