Historically women with any power were classified either as wicked, harlots, 5:25 virgins or saints. Glad your accounts bring light to how history and progress was due to all these women.
Not forgetting Catherine's flair for parties, architectural works, Château de Chenonceau and her legendary, almo😢Dynasty like fued with her husband's mistress Diane de Poitiers. Also that Catherine is often credited for popularizing the wearing of high heeled shoes.
Thank you for discussing this fascinating woman. I’m making my way through Leonie Frieda’s book and am now searching for Estelle Paranque’s - so thank you, also, for the additional resources. Cheers.
I liked that the series portrays her as a survivor. She had a difficult childhood and married off to a court that didn’t even want her there. I want to think it’s because she stuck it to her detractors that there was so many stories. It was a time when women were supposed to stay in their lane and Catherine didn’t
Thanks, Claire. She didn't outlive her daughter, Marguerite (La Reine Margot), who went on to become queen consort to Henri IV until he divorced her and then, ironically, remarried Marie de Medici, one of Catherine's relatives.
Thank you for such an interesting take on her life. I had always heard bad rumors about her. Also, I watched the very fictitious series called.Reign. It was a fictitious historical take on Mary Queen of Scot while she was in France. And Catherine was her mother-in-law. Anyway, I appreciate the information. She does get a bad rap. Your videos you’re always very interesting. Stay safe.

Thank you for the video! I haven’t seen her covered much in history texts or videos, and the TV show was… interesting, to say the least.

A collaboration with Estelle Paranque would be great❤
Thanks for highlighting Claire 🖤
Catherine De Medici, what a woman, endlessly fascinating.
I've read a little about Catherine. So, far the jury is still out on her. I know how hard history can be on powerful women.
Speaking of Estelle Paranque, have you read her book: Thorns, Lust and Glory - The Betrayal of Anne Boleyn?
I am half way through it at the moment 🤓 📚
Thank you Claire 😊 I realy can't get enough of your videos ❤ long or short 💕

Very interesting.
One small slip up. You said Catherine was born in 1533. That was the year she married. She was born in 1519.
I never knew much about her. Thank you for the video and is it possible that you could do a video onSt Bartholomew day massacre?
Thankyou!
Thank you. It's really interesting. Just one thing. The right pronunciation of Catherine's surname is de' Médici and not de Medìci.
