There needs to be more older women on TV looking their normal age ...so it becomes normalised. You usually see young women on adverts & TV, and older ladies are either not there or have had an awful lot of work done, and look unnatural. I think seeing normal women looking beautiful naturally on TV regularly would go a long way to helping people know it's ok to look your age and not get work done as the norm.

The problem is, youth is associated to beauty. (Which we know, you can be beautiful wrinkly and gray. we will never say our grandmas are ugly, and not just because we love them). That's for the Older half. For the younger half, even if they don't look their age, they don't look old. They just look "otherworldly" beautiful.

@@nordette Yes. But absolutely do your research and chose someone skilled in facial aesthetics, like a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Both the good news and the bad news is that it wears off. I had some mild hollowing under my eyes, and I could definitely tell when the filler started to wear off about nine months later. I definitely recommend that if you need it.
I went to a facial plastic surgeon for both the filler and botox (due to needing a growth removed as well), and even he gave me too many units of botox, I feel. I wanted a slight lifting of the brows to help open up my squinty, hooded eyes. The first month and a half, I really felt like I had overly pointed, angry eyebrows. They were lifted TOO much. But around two months, when it wore off a bit, I actually loved the way it looked. Four months after botox, I could definitely tell the effects had worn off completely. (The "brow lifting" botox also got rid of my forehead wrinkles, another reason I wanted it. Just FYI, I wouldn't ever get botox specifically to smooth forehead wrinkles because it can give you very heavy brows.)

It's very sad because we're only in our 20s for a short time in life and shouldn't be trying to look or seem that way forever, and definitely not prematurely. Honestly, I do not think the reason we want to stay looking younger is an attempt to regain the "freedoms" of youth that we know we can't have again (and people don't usually try to look as young as a teen who has these freedoms anyway). While there was always a lot of pressure on older women to maintain their youthful appearance, I think things have shifted so much with the rise of influencers.
There was, and still is, a huge divide between normal people and celebrities, and not aging was something the average person could just chalk up to celebrity magic. They knew it was something so unattainable, they weren't really influenced by it in a way to take serious action.
But an influencer's job is literally to influence us to be (any buy) like them. Even if it's just for show, influencers gain and maintain popularity by balancing relatability and aspirations-we see them as us if we were the best version of ourselves.
Facial procedures went from being something just for celebrities and totally out of reach to being perceived as aspirational, but still within reach.

I think something that we need to teach is that we dont go through puberty once, but twice. Once when we're teens, and again when we are somewhere between our 40s and 50s. I mean, think about it: during both 'changes' over the course of a few years, our hormones and bodies change, and always in ways that are new and unfamiliar to us, and often uncomfortable. We feel awkward as hell, miss the way things used to be, feel like everyone is looking at us and judging, and therefore feel ugly and dont want to be seen. But I think 'both puberties' are important times to teach ourselves how to dig deep, accept ourselves, and lean into those changes....because both are LITERALLY a natural process!!!

We have major issues in our society. First off, we sexualize children through tv, film, and social media, and social media causes peer pressure with trends that young girls and boys want to join in on. It's not "trendy" to be childlike now, and kids are pressured to grow up faster and even get surgeries if they get body dysmorphia from online trends. It's incredibly sad. On top of that, people tread women and men over 40 as "old" and needing to be scrapped- it's vile and ridiculous. A lot of this bs comes from Hollywood and trickles down into all other forms of media, and the more people will stand up to it and start seeing beauty in every single age (and teaching kids to not rush into becoming adults), the better it will be.
Beauty exists in every age. Looking at you, Helen Mirren and Julie Andrews, gorgeous queens. Society at large just doesn't want to appreciate that truth because it's not profitable- it's more profitable to promote wild trends on social media that will get people to get buccal fat removal. Glad to see so many people in saying similar things.

This is something my daughter and I were just talking about.
Boomers- most of them that have gotten tweeks to full on surgery (not including body, nose, and lips) didn’t start getting things done til they were in their 30’s. The goal was always to NOT to be drastic. Thus over time they would slowly get things done and then regularly get some maintenance done vs getting a lot done in a short period. Boomers aged just very slowly
Boomer celebrities vs Boomer everyday people- celebs often get full face lifts at some point. Boomer gen pop- usually just stuck with injections, maybe ONE full face lift if they were wealthy, if money is a non-issue in their lives
GenX - similar to boomers mostly waited to start with injecting. However, they started the full lips. Everyone did nose and boobs but usually waited til in their early twenties. Obviously fake boobs. Injections start late 20’s, early 30’s and they never stop. Wanted more natural looking or lighter face lifts. Usually wait til late 40’s for the face-lift light.
Millennials - started injects in their late teens/ early 20’s. Get nose jobs young in teens. Willing to do surgery in their 20’s to create a new face. Body work done more gradually, often deny any work except injections
Younger people look older bc of the amount of work they get done and bc they start so young. This isn’t what most of us grew with. Older women did face lifts and even tho younger people are getting facelifts, they get alot done to their face. We associate face with age. As it’s more and more common to start work younger even for everyday people, this is the norm if younger than Millennial. So once Gen X is legit old and dying off, the younger generations will only know people faces that started getting injections in teens and early 20’s and actual reconstructive work in mid 20’s, continue with injections til face lift needed. When that’s the norm, people will “look their age” bc regardless how fake that face is

Ugly people receive less respect and pretty people get hired for more jobs, don’t have to worry about being judged as creepy or a criminal, and are considered more likable so they get away with things ugly ppl would never. No hate on pretty people, but this plastic surgery and youth stuff is a symptom of systemic issues with how we treat ugly ppl as less than bc we’re not attracted.

I would quote "all is vanity" to this.
But that doesn't cover half of it.
Old wanting look young, and young wanting to look older. (The latter reminds me of Susan Pevensie wanting to look mature and adult in The Last Battle. One character practically says looking mature is not the same as being mature).
It's far more than just mere vanity.

A lot of it is genetics too. Plus anti-stress living. My husband and I get mistaken for 30 all the time. We are 46. But, we are also pretty simple living types. We live in an area thats obsessed w looks. So, access to crazy treatments come easy. Which I take advantage of time to time (botox, peptides, fitness, organic food, etc.) Who knows? Maybe there is a magical mix that some figure out? Some fake. Or, maybe just don't need? I am hoping "nice" becomes the new beautiful tho. People are most beautiful when they are content and happy.

Impossible with the stress, the constant comparing themselves, not being able to afford to make a living, and then it gets worse after aging off of their parent's insurance. Only the rich kids can enjoy youth and even they aren't enjoying it. These poor kids have the stress of the world with no escape because hangouts like malls, arcades, record stores, and movie theaters went of business and they only have late capitalism ghost towns. Tik Tok and UA-cam are all they have for community and social connection.

The thing is, I have always dyed my hair so unless I get a whole strand of grey I can't exactly take those greys out when I'm dyeing. So I wait until I have a whole strand and then I can take it out when dyeing. It'll look so cool! Women with long grey hair look so majestic

So many ppl are obsessed with comparing themselves to celebrities & influencers, it’s sad. The only competition should be between you, your mind and your body. What can you accomplish through work and mental focus so you’re your best version of you at this moment without unnecessary surgical procedures?… Also, maybe get hobbies & stop focusing on looks 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Here are two problems:
1- The characters of ''X'' teen series are played by youth actors; actors can suffer serious consequences from the entertainment industry or from their parents (example: psychological manipulation, labor abuse, sexual harassment, repression of freedom, etc...). Look at the problems that Nickelodeon or Disney actresses had.
2- The characters of ''X'' teen series are played by adult actors; His physique doesn't quite match that of a teenager, but he is mentally prepared for the responsibility that would come with being an actor.
What I would recommend is that the actors be adults but with ages close to those of adolescents (example: actors of 20 or 21 years of age). Stranger Things, Heartstopper and Anne With An E are the best examples of adult actors playing young people, without the need to sexualize or appear older (both physically and psychologically).

I am way too lazy to do all that crap. Life's too fucking short. I notice my facial skin aging, and I don't care. That's what it does. Just like a man who works out for hours every day to have huge muscles, doing all kinds of stuff to your face to keep it from aging is just a sign of insecurity. I long for the day when instead of saying, "Man, she looks great for her age," or, "He is SO buff," we say, "She was gorgeous when she was young and now that she's old and has aged gracefully, she's still gorgeous," or, "That's a man who feels comfortable in his skin, not having large muscles and having body fat."

I have never been against plastic surgery but I think many of these trends are going to age very poorly. I do Botox to reduce the pain of my migraines and since insurance denies it through the neurologist I go to a plastic surgeon but I hate the way it makes me look. I feel my forehead looks waxy but decreasing migraine pain from a 9 to a 6 means I don’t care how I look. Many teeth grinders that get migraines are saying masseter Botox has really helped(it thins the face)so I am actually looking to find someone in my area for my daughter to try it. She also worries about how it will look or potential long term consequences but I have literal brain damage from my migraines so if we can prevent that in her without serious consequences it is worth it. Also before anyone recommends it we are on the most powerful expensive migraine preventatives. I really feel everyone needs to understand with these procedures is they don’t know how they will age with them or if over time there will be things we don’t know about now that they will suffer from.

I started to see some fine lines on myself a while ago. I have a very saggy lower belly after 3 children, despite the fact that I exercise and track what I eat. The older I get, the more cellulite seems to take hold on my legs and butt. Sometimes, I look at myself and think "should I get work done? Is now the time? I've held off for long enough...."
But then, I look at my three children. I have a teenage son, a tween daughter, and a 7 year old daughter. I don't want my children to see their mother fall into such pressure and vanity, that I would "fix" something that doesn't really need fixing. I don't want my son to look at women as only important and beautiful when they look young. I don't want my daughters to think that looks are all that matter. I don't want them to think they need work done , because they are all so special and unique the way they are. I want my children to grow up knowing where true beauty lives. It isn't on a perfect smooth face, or rock hard abs, it lives within our hearts. I know it is corny and cliche, but it is true.
I also want them to realize what a privilege it is to grow old. Some day, I hope to be a Grandma, and maybe even a great grandma if I live long enough. If I get such a privilege, I know my grandkids won't care about My wrinkles, or my lower belly pouch. They will care about the way I will love them and cherish them, and cheer them on throughout their lives. My legacy will be my family, not my 'ageless face.'

I don’t think it’s just the Internet that makes young people want to look older it’s the fact that a lot of us have gone through traumatic experiences in our lives that have forced us to grow older than we actually are (emotionally speaking ) so we try to look that way also. Like if you are going to treat us like adults while we are still teens we are gonna look like that or act like that (sort of you know ) ( just a theory)

    • @ritaevergreen7234

Yes this is probably the root of everything. A lot of children are growing up too fast now and aren’t really being respected so a lot of them feel the next best thing is abandoning it for a mature look and calling it something else. It’s just distorting given you hear mature looking kids making fun of the awkward kids who usually look younger than them yet everyone still wants to look young. Not young enough to get bullied but young to have all the caveats which isn’t how life works at times.
