My 04 GX470 has 240k miles, it's lifted on 32' mud terrains. I often take mine to the local off roading parks. It's a great vehicle with no signs of slowing down. Maintenance is key with these because.... Timing belt.

You need to be a real man with some leg muscles and weight to throw behind it to get this SOB kick started. Then you gotta rev that hand throttle just right when its cold or else it'll stall on ya, too much and it floods out, too little and it putters out. But once it warms up man does it sing, you know it revs up to 10,000rpm and sounds like a hive of the most pissed off angry hornets coming to get you while they belch of a bunch of stinky blue/black smoke.

It is very reliable but please for gods sake change your oil at 5000 miles, I do 3000 miles oil change with my IS300 granted I drive very hard and swing the car around turns quite often but still.
I own a GX460, or the next generation, and absolutely love it. Yeah it doesn't have all the modern electronics, but it works.. It also doesn't have the same looks, i do think the 470 has a nicer interior and nicer looking exterior, but the timing chain and extra 75hp in the 460 were a fair comparison. The newest one is good looking, but there's no way it will meet a 470/460 reliability level..
These trucks are the same kind of durable that classic Mercedes were in the 80s. So, even though they still command high prices on the used market, they’re worth it because of how long they will continue to last.
The new 2024 models are nice, but I can't afford it. I have a 2007 in mint condition was serviced by Lexus from 2007 all the way to 2023 so it was very well taken care of. I use mine for camping!
Still rolling in a 2006! Under 100k on the beast. Want to hold on to it forever but the Midwest rust seems to be getting to it. Considering upgrading to the 2024 Land Cruiser
Original 2005 Gx470 owner here! Still running amazing with very little wear at 220k miles, I don't even add any oil between oil changes. I bought a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon to replace the Gx and I find myself driving the GX on a daily basis and the Jeep kinda just sits.
my mom bought a CPO 04' GX in 2006 with 30,000 miles; since then she's taken it to 300,000 miles in the last 18 years although its now relegated to home depot runs and dog transporting. no counting how many movies were watched on the ATM style TV screen in the second row as a kid.
These will go for 300k-600k miles easily with regular maintenance. Some have clocked over one million miles now. The GX470 has gone down as one of the most reliable vehicles in history.
Should both the new GX (and the Toyota Land Cruiser 250) get Chevy Suburban-like three-row LWB variants? Someone needs to directly take on the Land Rover Defender 130.
My wife and kids went to visit the inlaws and I spent last week putting $4,000 worth of parts into my 2005 GX470 in the driveway. If it ever gets wrecked I'm searching the country for another one.

My 2004 just rolled over 191k miles. Still smooth as butter. Putting a timing belt on my coworkers 2006 tomorrow. His has 170k miles. These things will give cockroaches a run for their money after Armageddon.
And? If I want to take corners fast I’d get a sports sedan like my IS300, no one buys a Off-road rig and be like “yes I can take this hairpin at 50 mph 🤡

The kickstarter is known to fail quite often, and it's very hard to get to because of its location.

Yes, this is when Lexus had a real identity to their interiors. This looks better than the goofy/confused looking GX460 that came years later.

I own a 2008 GX. the engine and transmission is so smooth. it’s been 4500 miles since my last oil change and it’s still golden.
It is very reliable but please for gods sake change your oil at 5000 miles, I do 3000 miles oil change with my IS300 granted I drive very hard and swing the car around turns quite often but still.
