Nice video Walt, thanks. End feds are strange in that sometimes they need a counterpoise and sometimes they don't. I suppose it depends on the type and length of the coax. You were sensible to have one packed, just in case. Best 73.
I home built an unun from the instructions for this antenna and run that as my main antenna, with just a wire strung out the window. It does not need a counterpoise but grounding it properly sure reduces noise. The original does not have a convenient way to do that but I recommend it.
Thanks for the great vid. Been looking at this antenna and think I need to buy at least 2 of these. One for portable use and another for back up emcomms. Thanks again!
another great vid!! what is your recommendation for new general 20w pota portable antenna? i have wolf river coil but want 20w wire portable. thanks KD9IRA
Hi Matt! Wow this is an old video and I'm glad you liked it. I would highly recommend you finding a good small portable End Fed Half Wave. I've used several different ones and have always had success. Maybe just get a good 49:1 unun and 66' of wire and build it yourself. Thanks for watching! 73, Walt K4OGO
Have you tired your G90 at 20 watts with the QRP guys end fed? They say the end fed can run up to 25 watts SSB. Great location - my old Navy ship spent some time at the old Portsmouth shipyard back during the 1960s. 73 - N1KRB.
I have only used the X5105 with that antenna but will give it a try. The shipyard in Portsmouth is just down the river from where this video was done. 73 - K4OGO
Hi Walt....I wonder why you didn't use a 1/4 wave wire if next to salt water. 16ft 5inch would have meant good low angle take off from your vertically mounted wire on the pole. Anyway you did well on the 5 watts well done all the best 73 de Ken G4VZV
Hi Kenny, this was simply an experiment with a half wave antenna. Checkout my channel I have several 1/4 wave vertical videos by saltwater. 73, Walt K4OGO
@@COASTALWAVESWIRES thanks Walt. Since looking at your videos I've decided to invest in a portable RS 978 radio . I liked the sound and comparing it to many of the other portable type radios it appeared best value. Thanks mate keep up the good with the videos.G4VZV Ken
@@COASTALWAVESWIRES Thanks for your response. I found it on Amazon, bought it for $18.18, and it was described as "graphite" (doesn't matter to me as long as it 's not metal). A reviewer say that he uses it for QRP - I wonder where he got that idea... ; )
There ought to be only 2 S- units between 5 watts and 100 watts If 100 watts makes a 5/9 then 5 watts would be a 5/7 Qrp is more powerful than most realize All I operate is qrp and qrpp and only cw
Nice parka. I have the same one. Don't use it much in Florida. I just got the QRP guys EFHW. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for the viddy.

I'd love to be able get to somewhere as beautiful as that to operate. Your surroundings are 1,000 times nicer than here.

Any good videos how to make this
@@mattyice4547 I don’t know. I just followed the instructions. Pretty straight forward.
I’m new to all this so it looks like Chinese to me but I’ll figure it out. Thank you!
Great video, just purchased the same kit, still needs assembly, hopefully will manage to get some results like you did. 73 de 9H5TB

Thanks for the video! I wish you health and many DX!
Thank you very much! 73 and all the best!

I plan to build this antenna from a kit and cut wires for 40m and 20m. Should match well with my Xiegu X 5105 or my Xiegu G1M.

Walt, when you say "1 to 2", do you mean "1.2 to 1" or "2 to 1"?
I believe I meant 2 to 1. Sorry for the mental hickup

WHAT SIZE WIRE DID YOU USE FOR THE ANTENNA AND HOW MANY WATTS ?
16 gauge speaker wire from Walmart was used. 5 watts with the Xiegu X5105

Your X5105 sounds as bad as mine - think it has a problem with both receiver and speaker - compared to say a G90
