Thank you for this information. You have inspired me to pursue my interest in becoming a medical writer. I finally walked away from my career as a physician, for which I am grateful, yet it's time for a new adventure! I look forward to your other videos!
Thank you so much for this information! Such a great, informative, fun video laid out in an easy-to-understand format. Though I am not an RN, I am a PA and just getting interested in medical writing. This was a nice spring board to hopefully set me up for success.
Fantastic! Welcome to the professional writers club! Lots of editors love working with clinicians who hold mid-level credentials, so you'll find plenty of work out there! And, hey, we welcome PAs and all health professionals in our programs, as well. I hope you'll check us out! rn2writer.com Thanks for leaving a comment!
Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much in sharing this wealth of information. This is definitely a priority that I’m working on as we speak. My biggest hangup would be that I have no portfolio for them to reference in making their decision to hire me. How do I cross this hurdle? I’m sending you this email as I am about to get ready for my 3 to 11 shift as a nursing supervisor at a nursing home. I want to stop dreading going to work. I can’t wait to become a health writer full-time. I thank you for all of this information. God bless.
Hi there! Welcome to our channel, and thank you for the kind words! You’re right that the first obstacle every person faces in becoming a freelance writer is “how do I get my first portfolio samples?” Fortunately, RN2writer offers a system or method for doing this that involves volunteering to write for a nonprofit organization of your choosing. We explain exactly how to do this in our $5.90 ebook, which you can grab at this link: go.rn2writer.com/dydc Bonus: all purchases come with a complimentary membership in our private community, the Success Society, where you can ask more questions like this and get coaching from Elizabeth! We hope you’ll join us!
Great question! Retired or former nurses also can become successful health writers. That said, having an active license gives you a competitive advantage because you can be published with the “RN” (or LPN) designation, which holds great value for the publication or client.
Ok, so possibly dumb question but im honestly a bit perplexed... how do we find the contact info for the correct person to email, etc in order to send inquries? I mean do we just go to "contact us" on a website & that be how it is or is it done a different way? Im really wanting to get into this so I so want to learn...
Hi Sheena! Not a dumb question at all! It definitely has gotten harder to find people's email addresses. There are numerous email-finding tools out there, such as hunter dot io, you can use. And you also can pick up the phone and call the company to ask if you can get the person's email address because you'd like to work with them. We teach all of this stuff in our Get Paid (Well!) to Write course, by the way. Learn more: rn2writer.com/getpaidtowrite
Hi Mahmoud! Do you mean copywriting (as in advertising), or do you mean content writing (as in blog posts, web pages, newsletters - that sort of thing)? If you're interested in content writing, you can check out RN2writer's own courses at our website: rn2writer.com
Hi there! In theory, any nurse in any location can freelance for US companies, but we've found that our business model doesn't always translate perfectly to foreign locations. We suggest you check your local area or region to find out if any healthcare companies contract with writers, and proceed from there!
This is great, and I love the attachment you included at the end. I am at the beginning of this journey. Thanks for the great info!
Beth, this is just what I need now. Thanks!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Inspired to listen.... ❤
Yay! We love inspiring people.

Can you write as a retired nurse? Or would I need to reinstate to active status with my regulatory College?
