    But when was this established? It is not from the Torah. And the surname in Torah times was always based on the father.

    an easier explanation would be because a mother who gives birth to a child is 100% certain that the child is hers, as opposed to males towards the children they're gonna father. also, it's worth noting that before the roman era, as well as in some sects today, jewishness was and is, respectively, determined by the patrilineal line.

    Well the Jews were correct
    While others based tribal connection or citizenship on the father the Jews regarded the mother
    And DNA has proven this to be the right way - from the mother
