- A short video showing what Powdery Mildew looks like, the explanation of what it is and 3 different suggestions of how to get rid of it.
Good tips and thanks for sharing. I have around 300 african violet also got the same problem. I used hydrogen peroxyde 3% dilute it in water to spray/wash on the leaves. It works very good too.
that is a very good tip Louisa, I will have to try it. Thank you for sharing. xx
Oh.... And i just removed all the leaves that had powdery mildew over... Wish i saw your video before doing that... Thanks for your teaching!❤
I really enjoy your videos. They have inspired me to get my violets back in better shape after being neglected for a while. thank you for all the great content.
Glad you are enjoying the videos Alex, that is the goal. And good for your plants, they will be happy for some attention from their violet mommy lol. Have fun with your babies, I am sure they will show you they appreciate the extra care in no time lol Hugs, Tina xx
Thank you thank you for this video!!! A few months ago I had the mildew on a very special violet. Sadly, it died. I couldn’t find any good info to put in practice. I mean, I found articles about it, but anyone can make an article and pretend to know what they’re doing. I just didn’t trust it. Because this plant was so special, I didn’t want to do something “silly” like Lysol because I wasn’t sure the effect on the plant. Your experienced and I trust your advice over a random article. Anyhow, I needed this exact video! Great content.
I haven't heard of the cinnamon idea! I do stir cinnamon into my soil and it helps control fungus gnats. Not 100% but about 99%. I will try the cinnamon spray.
Thank you so much for all your videos! I so enjoy them ALL! I’m new and your videos are helping me so much! You’re my favorite!!
I really appreciate your videos and I wish I had found this one before I tossed all my leaves I had bought. I had many NEW leaves I had purchased from three different sellers ( my first purchases ever). One morning when I went to check on them I saw the flour type of powder on several of them and I panicked and literally tossed them all (about 32 leaves that had been purchased over a 2 month period. I thought Powdery mildew as extremely contagous and I had more violets in the mail. That was sooo disappointing. The first ones I bought were just starting to produce babies, but I didn't want to risk losing them and the new ones. I did look for some info on the internet about it but most of what I read said to immediately isolate the plants and by the second day about half of my new leaves had it so out they all went and all my new potting mix. I scoured everything and hope I killed it all. Now I see your leaves with powdery mildew right in with your others and it seems like some of the articles I read were just OVER KILL. Well, I was quite sad for quite a while but now my new leaves have arrived and I am healing the lost of my first ones.
Thank you for this video! Much needed.
Thank you! Powdery mildew has been a fear of mine!
Thank you. Will try your suggestions!
I really love your videos. Very informative. Thank you.

Great video thank you
Thank you. I love your videos.
Tina, you mentioned you would put the link to your video with Neem oil but am not finding it below. Could you add it?
Thank you so much. I’m going to try the cinnamon. ...and another fan. Have had some cooler nights and then warm days so temperature variation could have contributed. You’re the best. ❤️
Thank you so much... I don't have it....but I have a lot of African Violets. Thank you
Thanks for this video!!!
you are very welcome Ga Peach, glad it helped. xx
I haven’t had powdery mildew for ages since rearranging my growing area and installing gentle fans…… UNTIL i put propagation leaf cups in a DOME……. Boom! (I usually propagate semi/minis in 3 oz cups placed in snack sized ziplock bags, with no problem, but These leaves are standards, and didn’t fit…..)
So, ive sprayed and allowed to dry, and plan to bag them anyway in bigger bags
My question is……Will they be more prone to develop it again inside the bag with NO circulation?
Thank you for all the great tips. I like the cinnamon spray. I was wondering will cinnamon extract work?
Hello Catharina, I am not sure the extract would work, I haven't tried it but my feeling would be no, it may help to repel insects that don't like the cinnamon smell but I don't think it will be up for the task against powdery mildew (that is just my feeling, I have research to back this up...) Hope this helps. Tina xx
@@BloomloversAfricanViolets thanks 😁 can not wait for tomorrow!
Thank you! Nothing is working so far. You may become the fairy godmother to my flock.
Thanks a lot for your advices!! You are awesome. I live in México City so, you have viewers down here :) Can you make a video about flushing? And also I have problems when I want to pot down my AV I always fail and my plants end very small:(
you are very welcome, so glad to be able to help. Welcome to all Mexico viewers (lol) Violets are grown worldwide so this channel is bound to connect with people all over the globe which is great... When you refer to flushing, are you referring to cleaning out the soil with water ? Can you explain what you mean by "pot down" as I am not sure and don't want to give you wrong information. xx
Where is the link to the video regarding the neem oil?
Will powdery mildew spread to other houseplants?
Do Violets like humidifier I’m new at growing an I grow them in same room as my Orchids? Love the info you put in videos! I went to look at plants you have for sale and they are sold out 🤷🏼♀️ 😊 when will you have more to sale? Thank you 😊
Hello Donna, Violets do like some humidity but not super humid conditions. I am not sure what the orchids require as I don't grow them but I would think that it must be similar. For a general rule, violets like the same level of humidity that we humans are comfortable like around 60%. As for the website, a lot is indeed sold out, this happens every spring but once I get out all of the early bird orders, I will redo another major restocking so there will be a lot more available. That should be in around 3 weeks. Hope this helps. Tina xx
Thank you very much 🙂. I’ll look for new violets in few weeks if I remember. Spring time I plant annuals in few flower beds outside n catch up on grooming everything else busy busy I love spring time good day 🌞🌸🌼🌹🌷
Tina, if you have one or two plants with powdery mildew, do you spray only those two plants or would you treat the whole tray of plants as a preventative?
Hello Gladys, when the white stuff arrives, it is best to spray everywhere, the mildew appears only when the conditions are perfect so don't take the chance, do the spray everywhere so this might prevent it from showing up in areas where it is not currently showing up (but might ) ... hope this helps
@@BloomloversAfricanViolets Thanks, Tina!
You mentioned putting the drained cinnamon water into the spray bottle & then adding water to it - how much water do you add? Or how much did you add?
can you use this same stuff to take can of
powdery mildew on lilacs
I have an african violet plant, which has just started growing something white spiky on the stem base that had broken off. What should I do?
Hello Nichole, I am sorry I don't understand your description. If you want me to help, you can take a picture and send it to bloomlovers@videotron.ca, I will look and do my best to find an explanation
What is the proportion of cinnamon to water?
Is it ok to do it while the AV is actively blooming?
