One of the best episodes to date. As much as I love empathizing with the guests over their blocks, I really enjoyed a break to listen to psychedelic and comedic philosophy.
Neal, you're hitting gold with these. At first I thought, 'Another podcast of comedians?' ... then watched it... totally different. Doing it with blocks is genius. They're all forced to be real. You are a genius, Neal. Thank you.
Rarely do I watch an episode of anything twice, but when I do it's of this quality. One of the best episodes of the show yet. Pete Holmes has always been awesome
Pete and Neal are really great together. I initially thought they’d be an odd pairing, having never seen them talk before, but they really complement one another and bring out the best in one another. ❤️☀️🙏🏼
Just discovered this podcast, and it's right up my alley! Wow, Pete Holmes... He's been one of my favorites for the past couple of years but lately listening to him on podcasts has been so healing for me as a woman to hear a man be able to conceptualize and verbalize and express his trauma and healing so vulnerably. but with pride and humor and showing that deep sense of pain thats there in the depths. What a brilliant mind!
The dog thing the music thing the body dysmorphia thing all the things i loveee this vulnerability and honesty and finding the grace n humor in it all ~ we’re all just getting through this thing called life. I really think Neals my twin lol 🙋🏽♀️☺️thnx 4 sharing this dope conversation ~ MUCH LOVE 🙏🏽👏🏽 ❤️BLESSSSS yall!!!
This is what Joe's podcast was back in the day... Okay, mostly when Duncan Trussell was on, and with less machine elves stories 😂 Thanks for this format and for keeping the flame alive!
A few years ago I added a third "motto" to my brain, which is "other people are other people". Delightful to hear Pete say "If I were him, I'd be him", which is just the converse of the same perspective
7:48 - Pete - " When I tell you that YOU're a good boy. then I'M in the mix." I also heard: ' If you can spot it, you got it. ' , which is a phrase, I first heard in 12 step meetings, and is very insightful.
Love yall! ❤ Pete, I've been your fan for over a decade. Long story, but you changed my life...started me on my spiritual journey ❤ I got to meet you back in the day and you were soooo kind!!!!
I took drugs once I got old and now understand the world and money! that's the paraphrasing of these naive elitists talking about themselves and the privileged lives they are accustomed to. Cars, money and homes in the mountains... all they care about, what this strike is about and how "you're not them"
Late to this one but I think this is my favorite discussion on the human condition and how to step back and look at life. Great starting blocks and solid rock to come back to when you find yourself out of mind. Great talk guys!
Pete Holmes is so wise.. His approach to the spiritual is so loose and silly. Reminds all of us to be kind to ourselves and stop taking things so seriously
Yikes this episode hits on a bunch of my own blocks. Thanks, um, I think. Wow I’m counting the days (29) before the health insurance kicks in at my new job, I’ve gotta get cracking on finding a good CBT and DBT therapist that hopefully that insurance covers.
In the '80's I did mushrooms once, ecstasy once -- both had an impact on my creativity and I got some cool writing out of the deal, but, it didn't open my consciousness like ayahuasca. Ayahuasca has had a lasting impact and spaciousness that has lingered.
I know it's nitpicking, but the use of the term "reality" at around 17:22 is complicated because there are constructs of reality like "social reality" and "material reality" that have different forms of impact and permeability than the way Pete frames the term. Similarly. at 31:43, the definition of "trauma" just depends on the grounding. The concept of trauma being physical is more of a CBT thing. The broad definition that Neal is referring to is similar to the Lacanian idea of trauma being a moment that can be narratively framed as a psychological split between the conceptual and practical gaps in desire. As much as I love how psychedelics open people up to metaphysical analysis of the self, most of the concepts that people discover are already systematized in really elegant, descriptive ways. Read continental theory, then take drugs, then read more theory. Edit: If you read theory, don't read Sartre or you'll end up like Pete with his "consciousness predates matter" bit at 46:28. Pre-ontological reality is still predicated on being the world. Consciousness entails intentionality, which means that even the statement "consciousness predates matter" is entirely contradictory in its construction.
Wow I can’t believe Neal wouldn’t give credit to his friend Jimmy Carr who enjoyed his Netflix special Blocks and told him he should have his friends on a podcast and ask them about THEIR Blocks
"Can't he love you and want your sandwich?" line from Pete about his dog is how I think a lot people who want a lot of sex are. It isn't that they only want you for sex, and don't have real love. They just also want your sandwich.
I thought they where talking about the struggle of stardom. People around them love them but also want the benefits that comes with dating famous successful people. What do you think?
One of the best episodes to date. As much as I love empathizing with the guests over their blocks, I really enjoyed a break to listen to psychedelic and comedic philosophy.
This posts let's me know I don't need to watch it. Can't stand Pete Holmes and it sounds like it's Pete being Pete. No thanks.
That stinks, Pete’s a nice guy
@@vanessawhitneypro Pete is an enlightened comedy sex god. What blocks could he possibly have?
He did talk about his blocks
Nobody cares Brian.
"PTSD Club Member" was the best joke of the pod. Love this duo. You two need to make more pods together.
I’m dead serious: I would give anything to have Pete be my personal therapist. He’s so full of insight and kindness.
Pete Holmes is a true disciple of spirituality. Great conversation!
I love the “if I was them I’d be them” quote. I’ll use this for sure.
I loved Pete’s book! It was so 🤯. It made me go into a rabbit hole starting with Ram Dass. I wish this episode was longer!! We need a Pete part 2!!!!
What is his book called?

I rediscovered Pete through Rick Glassman and I'm so happy I did, such a great dude. Thanks for having him on here Neal
same
I really love Pete's emotional intelligence and viewpoints on things. Great episode!
I just want to listen to Pete Holmes talk 24-7
Pete has 2-3 hour podcasts every week (You Made it Weird), so that shouldn't be a problem! 😂
His podcast is awesome.
So does Pete lol

Been waiting for Pete on Blocks since before Blocks existed
Rarely do I watch an episode of anything twice, but when I do it's of this quality. One of the best episodes of the show yet. Pete Holmes has always been awesome
That was the silliest discussion of all that is deeply spiritual and sacred that I've ever heard.
❤ Delightful! ❤

So true. This is a beautiful conversation.
they are a bit of an odd pairing when you look at their public personas, but they've both been through a lot of comparable stuff as we all found out.
Phewww.... This hit me just in time. Love this podcast.
Agreed, just like comedy itself, it's all about......timing lol
Pete is underrated
by a wide margin, this is the best comedian-hosted podcast. always hits. bravo Neal! and bravo producers!

definitely going to recommend listening to this while a little stoned. and, these two are really great together. Wouldn't have guessed that at all.
Absolutely love this podcast. Also every time the ding in the show goes off, my dog barks and then my heart races 😂
Finally, UA-cam gets it. This video showed up in my algorithm. Two of my top ten favorite comedians together in one room.😍
Such a pleasant and open person to speak to, this is so rare today.
I was stoned as shit for all this and it was perfect🧘🏻♂️

could listen to pete talk for hours. He is wise
The dog thing, noise, Keith Robinson--same. All of it. I love you guys for that.

Not really “converse” more analogous. But if I were you I’d have written converse ❤

This episode was spectacular. Thank you, Neal and Pete.
Seriously one of the greatest podcast ever! I’m sure I will never meet either of you, but you are my brothers.
I keep getting blown away by this podcast week after week. This one is very close to my heart. Thank you both.
I am so happy. PETE!!
I didn't know Pete was so zen. This was a great ep.
Great episode. Hope this channel gets bigger soon. It’s really too good for youtube-no other show like it.
This one met my expectations in every way I could think of.
this podcast/project is adding something yay neal and the person he has to refer to in the intro
Great episode. Definitely one of my favorites

Loving this so much-they vibe together beautifully...I definitely gotta get back into listening to Pete's podcast again :)

Fantastic conversation. What Pete said about spaciousness: that was the exact thing I wanted and found after doing Ayahuasca.
Did you have psychedelic experiences prior to your Ayahuasca journey?
In the '80's I did mushrooms once, ecstasy once -- both had an impact on my creativity and I got some cool writing out of the deal, but, it didn't open my consciousness like ayahuasca. Ayahuasca has had a lasting impact and spaciousness that has lingered.

this episode is to be shared & rewatched over & over again. thank you so much Neal & Pete!
Now this is podcast directing for the 21st century
"My mom should understand me? Is that true? You're suffering over an illusion that should be happening."
Good lord, Neal’s skin looks so good. Well done, sir. Well done indeed.
Thank you for the podcast Neal I love it I’ll listen to every one thank you it’s like adjacent therapy
This was the best ep of the podcast. End to end, no filler. Super relevent, just funny enough. Got so much from listening.
Wow I can’t believe Neal wouldn’t give credit to his friend Jimmy Carr who enjoyed his Netflix special Blocks and told him he should have his friends on a podcast and ask them about THEIR Blocks
I laughed out loud at this
every week I wait for the week when he doesn't say it
Well, Carr did lift his line: 'Narcissism is I have the illness, you've got the symptoms "
does anyone know the name/artist of the theme song? I ❤ it and tried to look it up but google isn't helping 😢
Didn't realize Pete was so enlightened. ❤

really enjoying this one
Finally someone else who shares my complicated perspective on dogs. "Does it love me or does it just want the turkey leg?"
Depends on the sandwich….
Sounds like something George Costanza could get on board with
Pete Holmes for the dad in problem child remake. Definitely got some John Ritter vibes.
