Great vid! I’ve got the Ingenuity seat too, to make it a bit smaller the back rest comes off and stows inside the bottom of the chair. Can take a bit of force to remove. To stow backrest, you need to remove the tray first from its own stowed spot
Great to see Rhiannon on a video. You’re a natural!! Alex, why has this lady been hiding in the shadows for sooo long?? 😂🎉❤ Thanks god my kids are 16 & 14 and can swag it. We had them camping within their first few months. They love camping anytime we can go. We had a purple Bumbo that was a seat, baby jail, shower seat, feeding chair. We would plonk each kid on the blow mould table in the bumbo.
Love all those items but I totally agree with your choice for item number 1 we tent camped with 2 kids for nearly a decade before number 3 came along and we invested in a Jayco Hawk Outback camper and it was such a game changer.
My number 1 top tip for any camping trip with kids is baby powder, a liberal sprinkling on a sand covered kid and it just brushes off and leaves them clean and fresh before packing them in the car or putting them to bed.
Love your work guys! We've been tent camping with my 6yo since she was about 18 months, and I've been stoked to pass on to her what I reckon is the number one thing I ever had as a regular camping kid myself. Way back before they were available off the shelf my mum made (including using brightly coloured acrylic paint to decorate) a back of seat pocket organiser, which my folks would fill with activities, colouring in, disposable camera, snacks, water bottle, magnifying glass, etc, etc. Key here is I never saw it until they pulled me out of school at midday on a Friday, or carried me asleep from bed to the car at 5am to hit the road for 3-5 hours to get out bush, and it would be in the car ready to go. It was an experience identical to slowly opening and discovering everything in a christmas stocking, and successfully kept me (and now my daughter) entertained for days on the road. Obviously you can now buy these organisers off the shelf, but I still have my one which is now my daughters, and she absolutely loves this tradition. Also after spending a bunch of money ($25 for the camera, $25 to then develop) on disposable cameras for her on trips I've also recently found CampSnap cameras, which if you haven't found seem like they're absolutely incredible to fill this gap (no screen, but a digital reusable verrrrry basic camera perfect for kiddos). I've got her one for christmas, so haven't field tested on a camping trip yet but we're heading down Pemberton / Denmark way the first week of Jan so it'll get a good test then. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing, and maybe see you out there sometime!
Good advice all round. I'm pretty happy that those kid camping days are behind me! But wait, there's grandkids chomping at the bit and wanting to go go camping. Living on a few acres is a good starting point. Pleased to see your channel growing and doing well. PS: When you've seen disposable nappies blowing around camp grounds, you'll understand why I hate the damn things too. Congrats on your cloth nappy decision!
We find the Joolca nomad kit is great when camping near a clean water source. You can run it straight from a creek or just fill a bucket & use the same doodah to draw that water & heat. The basin is big enough for a kid size bath & great for washing up bigger camp kitchen stuff. Can be a good play station, pretend car, boat etc , throw in some pillows & toys & some little ones will play for ages. It is pretty big but we have the room. A plastic sled can be handy for the beach or bush, to drag that extra gear you seem to ‘need’ to take on that walk from camp to the beach etc & can also be fun to use as well, and can be handy when you have a cranky tired little one who wants to be carried. We now use ours when collecting firewood or storing charcoal (in a bag), and fire gear at our campsite, it slides wherever you want it & easily slides undercover if it looks like rain. Saves the heavy lifting. We now have two, as they fit together & just really handy for different locations. We pack a set of pjs inside each persons pillow; no hunting for pjs when bedtime comes around. You can get great little 12v rechargeable touch lights that you lightly pat off & on, very soft light, some have a timer. Great if you want to quickly check all is well in the middle of the night. I’ve seen a cute duck version & a rabbit that pat off/on & a little toast one that isn’t as easy for a smaller child, all very cute, I’m sure there are more. Love experiencing everything through a child’s eyes again, makes you appreciate the little things even more. Note,I’m definitely not a minimalist camper but try to limit what we take. I want easy these days & pack what I find useful to me; just like your daughter’s chair, if it makes you happy , why not?
Thanks for another informative post. It certainly kicked off memories of when we travelled with our children (4 X youngest was 6) in a Cub Drifta 6 Camper and prior to that it was tent camping. The items you mentioned were very similar to what we had. Water was a challenge and plastic jerrycan sufficed although maybe nowadays a water bladder could be considered.
We use a reg tub for the baby bath (doubles as being able to put stuff in for packing). Foldable Porta cot for baby jail under the gazebo during the day. Ground mat also handy for a clean space to play. The foldable, booster feeding chair (like a mini camp chair w table) are handy. They're at kmart. Good to have in the car for lunch on the road. We bring a pram too incase the fomo baby won't nap.. you can try for a nap on a walk. Fly net for the pram also handy.
Fantastic honest review, great to see the "Better Half" in front of the camera, you both work well together. As something that takes up less space to keep toddlers occupied have you used a Jolly Jumper, not an all the time thing but handy at meal times. The showering struggle is real. We used to use a plastic storage tub, so that it had a dual use
I was pleasantly surprised how well we came across on camera together 🙂 I would definitely choose the storage tub over the dedicated bath, if I could work one of suitable size into the camper.
Good video Alex. Camping with kids is something else isn’t it, we went from sleeping in our ute canopy to a pop out caravan real quick lol. Mind you, we still decided to travel around Australia with two toddlers in nappies still.
Good stuff, I wish we'd had that standup pod thing when our little guy was just starting to haul himself up and wander off at inopportune moments! re: hot water I've heard several good reviews of various compact portable gas heaters that hook up to a regular gas bottle etc.
Yes, it just buys you 5 minutes sometimes to set up the camper or something, with the assurance that your child can't go anywhere 😆 I'm very keen to try one of those portable gas heaters, I just want to figure out the most interesting one to choose for this channel :)
We’ve done cloth since our girl was born. Shes never worn a disposable nappy and she’s almost 5 The trick is GOOD washing powder, HOT water and wash them twice
@ this is the best. It’s my plan to make for my family. I just rebuilt a 6x4 trailer for my weekend away with the kids. They are pumped. We carry our oztent tent and stuff in it to go away. One day a camper! Thanks for the content. It’s awesome. I have a camping podcast I’d love to have you on as a guest. Getting out there podcast. Cheers Anthony
It's 'Australian Camper Trailers' I don't know when they stopped manufacturing, probably in the 80s or earlier. Needless to say there's not much original on it!
"If there's things to be done and seen, the kid would rather explore than eat so you can trap your kid in the Ingenuity seat". You should go into copy writing 👍😆
Oh, and with the Scrubba, when my son and I spent 3 weeks doing the Darling River Run, the passenger would just roll the bag under his feet whilst we were on the road and it takes nothing to pull up to tip out the first wash water and top up with some rinse water and then continue on. It's one less chore to do around camp when pulled up.
Haha funnily enough I do a bit of copy writing! Many of my best lines don't end up published, but some do! Good tip with the scrubba bag too, that way if their feet start to get wet they know to check for leaks too 😆

Alex's face when talking about washing cloth nappies... lol

You seem really happy & relaxed doing these review videos, both work well together ❤
Thanks! Yeah it felt good while we were shooting it I thought "yeah, this is gonna be a good video"

Love those kiddy seats, we have used them for all three kids

There’s also a similar Bum seat but is just a single piece blow moulded rubbery material. Literally called the Bumbo 😊 no tray though
Guys, they were really great tips, thanks.

Not gear we will or have ever needed but just commenting for the algo. Is that camper the one you restored years ago?
Yep that's the one! I don't think we will EVER get rid of it, too many memories!
Great work! What’s the model
Camper that you are sitting in ?
@@anthony.grisan it's a 1960s ACT (Australian camper trailers) Cruiser. Rebuilt from the ground up about 8 years ago, it was very much a family effort

@anthony.grisan that's epic! What's the name of your podcast mate? I'm keen to have a listen. Can I get in contact with you through there?
Have always enjoyed all your videos, could l ask what brand is your camper, we have a topagee4 , keep up the great work .
