Am I the only one that thought we can make very high-speed piston engines in survival and then the kind of like electric cars in real life instead of to make a gas station but your electric car never needs to be charged?
nah he didnt figure it out the piston engine community figured it out we just backing kan to push the advanced crap for the noobs so they can figure it out and get good
I'm genuinely fascinated by the fact you're discovering trammel gear mechanisms for the first time as a robotics engineer. I'm not as highly qualified an engineer as you are, but was clearly quite lucky to be introduced to trammel gears as a child, by my dad, a mechanical engineer. It's so magical seeing someone learn a new engineering principle and getting to experience, vicariously, the joy of realizing how amazingly clever these mechanisms are.
So basically, you could create a working gearbox by selecting which trammel to use (ie which gear ratio) and not only will you be able to choose at what speed to go, but you'll also be able to adjust the torque you'll need ! Looking forward to see someone build this.
Very cool. You've been more excited and passionate in these last couple videos talking about physics and engineering than you have been in a while. It's super nice to see :).
I'm looking forward to how you apply all this stuff in the challenges. I can't say I understand everything, but I'm learning a lot from watching these vids. Thanks, kAN.
I haven't played SM in a very long time... but watching you explain all these complexes mechanism is actually very relaxing... No idea why but keep those coming!!
Hey, super nice that you figured out the trammel gears, they are super useful if you dont want to mess with your engine stroke. Regarding the challenges, the only thing that may be an issue (might be more of an issue on the hard - insane levels) is that the trammel gears require super high reinforcing so everything meshes well enough, I have been having issues with this myself. One thing they are super good for is speed as they dont require much reinforcement and you can solve the problem of the soft rpm cap of normal stroke, single piston per cylinder engines without messing with anything super technical. Loving the piston vids so far, cant wait to see more in the future, I think the inline 3 needs an upgrade!
I thank you for showing us the Trammel Gear assembly. I wish there was a better way to make U joints in vanilla, so this could be used to make a proper engine and drive train
Would love to see, "best launchers", in a video. Cannons, wheel launchers, glitch launchers, etc.... basically anything that will launch your character.
i love your videos where you are just so genuinely excited about a mechanism or a build. it really translates through the medium and is the content i come here for.
The even cooler thing is that this wasn't hard coded, it's just a product of the simulation going on. Nobody told the game that it must spin x times for a certain gear and that torque would change. However it just makes sense because this is the result of physics playing out.
When I saw him making a tow line ABOVE rear axle at 11:00 I was screaming at monitor: "Stop it will wheelie" I guess he was so hyped he forgot how physics works :D
I'd love to see if this type of gearing mechanism could make a large bridge layer. Basically expand a massive bridge or act as a better draw bridge on a castle style build.
PLEASE do a piston powered survival run! There would be so many cool and unique vehicles, and each with a differently tuned engine for different purposes instead of just 1 truck doing everything! No gas engines, no electric engines, only piston power, maybe controllers for slower things.
12:25 Kan, I think the hay-bale wheels are off the ground, mate. 12:28 Confirmed, the wheels are off the ground. You need the weights between the normal wheels and hay-bale wheels of each side. 13:22 So the hay bales are heavy enough to make contact with the ground, huh? Interesting. Thanks for sharing the mechanism!
You know I used to make fun of people like you in high school. Worst part about it is I've turned into a bigger nerd than most of the people I would tease for their enthusiasm of math. Cool video!!
kan please make a piston engine tutorial like you did with the logic gate tutorials back then! it really got me to understand logic gates so much better and jumpstarted me into building cool things with logic in my own game. I mean I understood a little bit of logic gates cause I studied IT back in uni but your tutorial videos made me understand it so much better! I know there are probably other channels I could watch for piston engine tutorials but most of the time I can't find any that explains as well as you do
yea but his last engine with the damned timing blocks on pistons to fire the pistons sucked and the piston engine community went beserk over how many there are
@@Wreckedftfoxy lol yeah but he said he’s learned a lot now and is learning more so I’m still hoping that he’ll do a tutorial cause he explains much better than many people out there
I hope each challenge in the challenge mod have to make you search how to solve them. Im really excited to see how it will works in the challenge mod !
I am 99% sure you could embed the pistons in the trammel, i don't know how it would do torque or speed wise but it should work and be pretty darn compact
We had a giant arm with all the weight we could muster on it and we still couldn't do the hardest torque challenge because of the massive slop in the physics.
Funny thing is about 2 weeks ago Kan had a video he posted about community creations and came across a trammel gear on a piston motorcycle he highlighted. And was so confused by it. 😂😂
When nerds try to do something related to mechanical. Your weight on the front of them was lifting the rear ends hence losing traction, you needed to move the weight towards the back a bit, not more wheels
A planetary gear can give you a higher gear ratio. I had a atv winch with a 200/1 ratio the ring gear was split in two halfs one gear had three fewer teeth on the same diameter and the sun was driven hope this can help you 😄
Try to install both 1:2 and 2:1 ratio on one single vehicle and make an toggle switch to be able to turn off one and turn on other one. For example, first one when you hit the gas should be with higher torque/less speed, then after gaining some speed switch to speed one. The vehicle should be in top places in any race. Just imagine, when you start a real car and start driving, basically you will need more torque/power to start moving vehicle then you can just switch to another gear for speed. Or slap even few gear system like 2:1 for start, then 1:1 for gaining speed and then 1:2 for max speed. you know what I mean lol
You have the gear ratios reversed if you want speed it 1:2 ratio if you want tourqe it is a 2:1 For example: 1:2 means one rotation of the driver gear causes two rotations of the follower gear. This is acceleration - the speed is increased 2 times, the torque is decreased 2 times. You get double speed but half of the torque.
Increases speed and potentially stroke length, but not torque. Longer strokes top out at 1x4 crank offsets for double pistons, but 1x2 already starts to back drive the controller bearings.
Hi Kan, look at my piston powered plane, it has two engines, both run at 1k rpm, max speed 140b/s. Name in workshop: "Fast piston plane mk2" also i have few piston cars with speed record.
What other cool mechanisms should we look at in Scrap Mechanic?
First
Lamdamechanism. also first?
Differential for the piston engine. Should make turning easier

11:45 that happened because the connection rod is far above and perpendicular to the rear axle (which acts like a pivot point)
Yeah I thought that would have been obvious lol
I'm realy liking these videos, seeing you be happy makes all of us happy

same here lmfao
I made a survival piston powered car with a 4 piston iteration of your engine and with one trammel gear and it is quite good.
11:19 - "And theoretically weld this to the same spot."
There's this game called "Besiege". You should really try it out as it gives the player insane freedom of building (engines included).
I am loving the return of mechanical stuff to the channel.
I'd love to see if this type of gearing mechanism could make a large bridge layer. Basically expand a massive bridge or act as a better draw bridge on a castle style build.
if its a engine it doesnt have torque to do so and a gas engine aint gonna do it either
YESSSS!!! More mechanical and engineering stuff!!

This is revolutional! It opens so much potential. hyped
at least you can build a functioning piston engine, mine just steps 90 degrees, waits and repeats and idk why
Strangely enough, after that best builds video I am now using that gear system in my piston landship.
That's so cool, you should try to make a transmission with multiples gears with these tremel gears
make a race car that can drive around any race track perfectly without a driver

i always used to use the boots as my traction pieces for weird wheels
I hope this means there will be an updated video on how to build piston engines!
Never thought I'd see a scrap mechanic vanilla build with hub reduction 😂
I am 99% sure you could embed the pistons in the trammel, i don't know how it would do torque or speed wise but it should work and be pretty darn compact
For carrying vehicles you use torque for speed you use the speed option
You would need some kind of differential if you want some decent steering. Or make it fwd.
1. 100% will build 2. Fant wench mod with wall guides then try unweighted with undoubled wheels 3. Fant gearbox compo

Know we need a clutch and transmission. This would make it even more viable in survival.
Cool video!
I wanna see kan try the other piston challenges(you don't need to do the challenges before it jsut skip with yellow button)
Are you able to make a star gear (hub reduction as I know it from trucks) similar concept only using planetary gears
i tried making this and the back yellow block skips because it doesn't attach to the tube and piston, how do I fix this?
I'm gonna have to try bolting one of these to a spud gun car.
THE POSSIBILITIES!!!
these piston engines are way over my head...

Unfortunately Kein engines are going to keep dominating piston engine races. Instantly in the power band and they rev to the moon.
How about an impact driver
wow u figured this out
This is huge
Now I want to see a moving base in survival
what if you make the input gear adjustable with a piston to change reduction
Would it be possible to create functioning gears on a vehicle by engaging trammel gears whilst moving?
So when are you going to whip together a trammel geared piston engine vehicle for a multiplayer monday?
think using them in the survival mode would reduce the amount of gas consumed?
Now turn this into a 3 speed gearbox, with reverse :)
And they call it useless grinder
do you think you will do another survival series or not?
Is there a reason why you specifically use component kits in the trammel gear?
They have a rounded hitbox which makes the trammels move into the slots easier.
You should build a faster piston powered airplane using this mechanism
Biggeycheese69420 was the one to find this :)

This is acceleration - the speed is increased 2 times, the torque is decreased 2 times. You get double speed but half of the torque.
Try stacking the pistons on one of another, there are some guides here on yt for that
Increases speed and potentially stroke length, but not torque.
You can watch video about my vehicles in my chanel "scrap mechanic" playlist.
Now the question is how do you make a transmission using these trammel gears.
Its a bummer we cant do things like this in trailmakers
You should play a survival world but for instead of using engines or controllers you have to use piston engines and this gear ratio
Soooo... why component kits and not other block or part?
Component kits have a rounded hitbox which makes the interaction in the middle smoother
i wish i had scrapmechanic
please do this in a multiplayer monday
Hi everybody
Your drawbar needed to be at or maybe below the axle centerline.
Can you make a v6 piston engine
We miss the face on the side
anyone else find it ironic that in the tug of war. in a video about torque, kan completely ignores torque on the drawbar :p
