- Discover the six key reasons behind sudden drops in egg production on your poultry farm and learn how to revive it. From feed problems to health hazards, lighting variations, and stress factors, uncover essential strategies to address nutritional, health, environmental, and management aspects for a thriving chicken flock and a steady supply of precious eggs.
Reason 1 For Egg Production Decline: Feed Problems
Nutrition plays a vital role in egg production. Sudden changes in their feed or a lack of essential nutrients can significantly impact egg production. Learn the art of balanced nutrition and how to maintain a consistent feed supply. Hens need about 16% to 18% crude protein to lay eggs.
Reason 2 For Egg Production Decline: Health Hazards
Disease, parasites, poultry or chicken lice and mites, and infections can wreak havoc on your flock, leading to a sudden drop in egg production. We'll delve into the importance of biosecurity measures, vaccination, and serology monitoring to keep your chickens healthy.
Reason 3 For Egg Production Decline: Lighting and Seasonal Changes
Chickens are sensitive to light. Shorter daylight hours in winter can cause a dip in egg production. Discover the benefits of providing artificial light to maintain consistent day length.
Reason 4 For Egg Production Decline: Inadequate Water
One common oversight is failing to provide a constant source of freshwater, especially during the scorching hot months when chickens drink more. We'll discuss the importance of a continuous water supply and how to keep it clean and free from biofilms.
Reason 5 For Egg Production Decline: Stress and Anxiety
Chickens, like us, can get stressed. Changes in their environment, predators, or overcrowding can lead to anxious hens and a drop in egg production. We'll show you how to create a calm and safe environment for your laying chickens.
Reason 6 For Egg Production Decline: Age Matters
As chickens age, their egg-laying abilities naturally decline. Good layers can produce for about 50 to 60 weeks per laying cycle, but then they take a rest period. We'll discuss when it's time to retire old hens and introduce new layers.

Please how do you manage manure in battery cage with constant water dripping from the nipple.
Hello Nonye, thanks you for tuning in and dropping us a question. Keeping that litter dry with constant water dripping from the nipples can be tricky. It might be worth checking if the pressure on those nipples is causing the constant leaks - adjusting that could help.
For managing the manure, we use sawdust or wood shavings in the manure area. We actually showed how we do it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/PiYvl1yUW5k/v-deo.html around the 05:31 mark. Give it a look, it might give you some ideas on handling the manure situation. Any more questions please feel free to ask.
Thank you very much
