I've always felt that more than any other major studio, Warner Bros. represents the best of American filmmaking. Not only did they give us The Jazz Singer, Casablanca and The Exorcist, but they also own most of the classic MGM film library. Back during the Golden Age of Hollywood, WB was second only to MGM in musicals--they distributed 42nd Street and the Gold Diggers series, and they also made the 1950s version of A Star is Born with Judy Garland (not to mention the various musicals Doris Day made with them). They're the only studio that has ever been able to compete on the same level as Disney in animation, between Looney Tunes, DC Comics, Animaniacs, Hanna-Barbera and Cartoon Network. Warner Bros. was also behind my two all-time favorite movies, Space Jam and Osmosis Jones, not In short, they've always been one of the leading studios in the kinds of films I like most. And best of all, they have by far the best record of any studio when it comes to preserving and restoring the films they own. I have almost nothing but crazy respect for them and I hope they remain an important part of the film industry for many years to come.

I love you, man, but it is Warner BROTHERS. I'm 54 years old and I've never EVER heard anyone say it as 'Warner BROS'. Especially repeatedly. But your video about this awesome company is, as always, of very high quality and your professionalism is top-notch. I always enjoy the very thorough review of whatever company you are featuring. You obviously do your homework.
I've always thought very highly of Warner Brothers because they are always looking to present something new and original. For decades and decades they brought original entertainment to the masses and the fact that so much of even their oldest productions have become absolute classics and must-see entertainment for the newest generation is a testament to how they think outside the box.
WB is one of VERY few production companies that have so many legendary films, TV shows, and the stars that made them great consistently from every decade since their beginning. So many studios have come and gone during the WB MANY years of excellent entertainment. What other studio has been the producers of such legendary characters that they were able to open stores in malls that sold merchandise featuring those characters? Disney, and that's it. ONLY WB has given us both animated and live-action characters that are legendary even though those characters are 50 years old or more. It's stunning. Disney has done this to a certain degree, but it feels more forced and hyped. WB has given us Bugs Bunny and all the other associated characters and I never grow tired of watching those animated characters in excellent shorts that are the lynchpin of real laughs and totally relatable events in those shorts. Mel Blanc and the animators were absolute geniuses that came up with the most incredible laugh-a-second entertainment that any of us have enjoyed. NO ONE but Warner Brothers has done all of this and so much more in their MANY legendary films and TV shows.
I think about what the world would be like if the Warner Brothers hadn't had an idea and gotten together to make some of the greatest entertainment productions ever made and I cringe at that thought. They changed the world of entertainment and left it much better than they found it. That's what it's all about. So I honor their names and lives in regard to their contribution to this complicated, if not sometimes disturbing, world that we all live in. I truly hope that WB continues to follow the path less traveled and not become complacent and unoriginal. But with their record, I dare say that they will continue to bring us the absolute best.

I share the exact sentiments myself, even though I've been having a love-hate relationship on the studio with its executive decisions, Warner Bros. is without a doubt one of the grandeur movie studios of all film history, with a sense of appeal that applies to all-ages without having to be a family brand. It has always stood for taking things with more ambition and not following a traditional "family formula" that Disney is known to have.
Another thing that it's quite clear looking at their legendary history of TV shows, events and movies, is that it is well-known that WB does love the moviemaking business, the major craft in producing and making movies, something that's notable based on their history. Not all of their movies and series will be perfect, but the majority that stands out will always reflect on the greatness and appeal of Warner Bros. Pictures

Hopefully better than how AT&T was running things. I think it's easy to be skeptical about Discovery because one can probably think "How can a mass media company that focus on reality-based and factual programming could enter into the entertainment show business?".
But Discovery has a greater advantage because they have created their own content over the years, through their documentaries and their supernatural/crime reenactment TV series, which technically do count as an audiovisual medium just like movies. So, in a way, they can implement those abilities to their own advantage and hold on its own with WB.

It's been years since I read the book, "An Empire of Their Own", which is about how various men of hardscrabble Jewish backgrounds (The Warners, Louis Mayer, Carl Laemmle, Harry Cohn, Jesse Lasky, Adolph Zukor & others) started or ran studios in the early years of Hollywood, but I recall in the Warners section that Jack Warner pulled a fast one on his brothers and took over the studio. Harry and the remaining brothers (Jack and Albert) agreed to sell their stakes in the business, which as the video alluded to, was struggling with the advent of TV in the 50s. What Harry and Albert didn't know is that behind their backs, Jack put together his own group to buy the studio with him running it as the sole head. By the time Harry and Albert caught wind of Jack's scheme, it was too late.
Jack was considered the most uncouth and most loathed of all the brothers. I recall reading a part where one day, he walked into the animators office and caught the staff leering at the studio's starlets from the window. He promptly had the animators' office moved to a windowless warehouse or something like it.

YOU CAN BE SURE, IF IT'S A WESTINGHOUSE.
If you get a chance, look up Nikolai Tesla, he actually has an interesting connection to that famous company. Let's just say AC/DC isn't merely the name of a classic rock band!

Its also good to note that they are a big publisher in the gaming industry too! Owning highly rated studios like Netherrealm, Rocksteady, TT Games, etc. They made games like Mortal Kombat, Batman, the lego games, etc.

No, I wrote a long rant in the comments just now.
I fear that he saw "Bros." one hundred and four times in the Jokipedia article, and concluded that's what the company is called.

That was really informative. I always though the classic movie studios ended up in sunny California mostly to get away from an outrageously litigious Edison who sued them literally thousands of times in New Jersey because he was convinced that movie cameras, which he "acquired" the patent for, should only be used for Nickelodeons and nothing more. Oh, also you forgot about the Warner sister, she's right there at the end of the name, the Dot after Bros.

    • @steveweinstein3222
      @steveweinstein3222 Рік тому +1

That's true. In the vast open spaces of LA, crews could get away from Edison's shakedown thugs. But an even bigger reason was the weather: LA is sunny almost every day, whereas NYC has New England-type winters. The main advantage to being in NYC was access to Broadway actors.

It would be cool if for some videos you would pick a topic and view how different companies performed relative to each other.
For example, like this video touched on, talk about the rise of Hollywood and show us how the different major studios came about and how they performed over the decades. It would be like watching a horse race.
This would work for many other topics as well.

WarnerMedia and Discovery need to leverage the resurgence that they will gain from streaming in the near future to acquire Six Flags which they should be able to do at a favorable price due to the pandemic. This will create an ecosystem similar to that of Disney and Comcast so that they can better position themselves for the future.
