I just got this plane last week and all I can say is what great plane. As a noob to planes I was amazed at how well it flew after all the horror stories I read about learning on a warbird. This plane is not a trainer by any means, but it is very forgiving. I should be putting the flaps and retracts on it next week.
great video guys, I'm really glad you touched on the servo speed control. I'm in the process of switching my fleet from futaba to Spectrum and was thinking DX7 but def going DX8 after finding this info Thx again & keep making the great videos guys :)
Nice video, although I just want to point out that the dx7s has the same flap capabilities as the dx8, so it isn't necessary to go for the more expensive dx8. But yeah, I love my p-47
Just purchased the 1.2 T-28 Trojan. This is my first plane with flaps. I noticed that at full flaps the servos are constantly buzzing and had to back off by 30 % to stop the noise. Is this buzzing normal or damaging to the servos? Thanks and love your site and information you provide!
Hey Heraclio Natal. In order to get your flaps to move in the same direction you have to do one of two things. Either put your flaps on separate channels and mix them or you have to reverse the servo by soldering. Look up how to reverse a servo and there are a few good videos. The soldering is easy (as far as soldering goes) and only involves switching two wires in one place and two on the servo motor.
Hi Guys still love ur vids an show, I have the P47 with flaps but using DX7 an I'm using the 3p idle up switch for my flaps, the question is how can I make the flaps deploy slowly, as I nearly crashed the first time I used them... P.s thanks for the tip to try them at hight first... Keep up the good work chaps I really look forward to ur shows....
I had a HK Cessna foamie... had flaps installed on it, with a little down elevator programmed in to stop the balloon effect. I put them down when I was too low and it instantly nosed straight down and into the ground. Learnt the hard way on that one, I had my camera inside the cockpit at the time, check it out! :D
Would it be possible to clean up your landing area , so there would be a smother landing ? Also have you thought of trying leading edge slats in conjunction with flaps ?
Not sure if this is a big deal or not to you, but this video does show the long/lat of Chad's house. Might want to edit the laptop shots....other than that, great video/tips as usual.
Nice tips guys, very easy to understand as always :-) Although I prefer plane, I think it would be pretty cool if you guys could review the Blade MQX when it's available because it's a great starting Quad. Tom
You guys should try catapult landing ( put down 3 string like the real aircraft carrier ) get 2 identical planes and make a challenge to see who can hit the 3 wires and stop in the shortest distance (you have to touchdown before a certain point and stop before certain point ). FPV will make it a cool experiment too ( Navy like landing )
Deploying flaps will actually bring the nose down not up like was said. You should program some up elevator for when flaps are deployed. This is the best example fF1TnPMFn94
@wilcohijink thanx so i just have to but the attachment and solder it on so i can use my computer to download new firmware way better than having an empty pocket if i buy a DX8
I like the paint scheme on that bolt. If you were not paying attention to the video and just listening to the video. It sounded,like you were warming up to a female before you took her to pleasure town. Hahaha
I have a large P-47 that came with flaps. 1400mm wingspan. I can honestly say that landing without flaps is way way too fast. Using the flaps I'm able to slow it down very nicely. I still nosed over though because my steerable tailwheel was loose and it veered off the runway into the grass.
How can i get my flaps servos to move in the same direction. I dont have a dx 8 or even a dx i have a 6 ch radio but all i need is for the flaps to move down at the same time. What do i need
hello i am kinda new to flying but i have a super cob from hobby zone i was wondering if you guys could suggest me a good plane under 200$ that is a little bit more fun to fly thanks guys love your videos!!
@MrKrilars1 I'm not 100% sure but i think it could well be an Eagletree E-logger,try doing a google search and you should find them ;-) hope this help you out a bit.
Hi...just wondering...I have a P40 1700mm wing span with 2 servo flap system.....I dont understand why when flaps are deployed why they vary in travel distance of upto 10mm. So at final flap servo travel I measure 45mm on one & 55mm on the other! Can anyone explain why & how to fix ??
You can use half-flap or 'take-off flaps' for both take off and landing. If you're landing into wind (as you're supposed to) and the wind is a bit stronger then you could go with half-flap or even no flaps.

@jezrougan The servos speed is a function of the DX-8. I don't think the DX-7 will do it. -Chad
YOUR REVIEWS ARE THE BEST ON THE NET, THANKS

Great vid. I love my P-47 with flaps. I wish that horizon would make more warbirds with flaps.
Nice video, although I just want to point out that the dx7s has the same flap capabilities as the dx8, so it isn't necessary to go for the more expensive dx8.
But yeah, I love my p-47
why is it age restricted?

there are also servo reversers
Chris Stolle Actually you could have both servos facing the same direction. (Like they said in the video) Rather than being mirrored to each other.
I have the DX7 & use the 2 pos flap sw which allows for time delay as well as mixing with elev.

Great video on flaps, I need to have a go at this.

Hi guys, great video. thanks for putting it together.
Would it be possible to clean up your landing area , so there would be a smother landing ? Also have you thought of trying leading edge slats in conjunction with flaps ?
Great video! Now let's see a review on the carbon z yak 54! That would be awesome thanks for everything u do guys.

I suggest looking into the Hitec Aurora 9 as well. Spectrum has issues with radios locking out and firmware problems.
I have the same plane and radio at full down how much elevator did you add in ?? Thanks and great video!!!
The DX7s does in fact have speed control for flaps. Refer to page 14 of the manual.
@MrKrilars1 It's an Eagle Tree Logger you can read it off the screen and they're made for stuff like this :)
What did you do for the GPS logger? Thanks!
Deploying flaps will actually bring the nose down not up like was said. You should program some up elevator for when flaps are deployed. This is the best example fF1TnPMFn94
concise, & comprehensive. thx!, "bird" fm Michigan.
steve spring
@RcTranMD
Not sure if it can do it with the stock firmware, but definitely with the ER9X firmware
Great explanation and demo :-)
Great use of an Eagle Tree Logger. Data is good.
Later,
Gundy
5:56 I spy a Carbon-Z Scimitar! :D
DATA LOGGER - Hey guys. That thing looks awesome and I want one! What is it and where can I get one from?
Cool,
Is Horizon sending you a bunch of planes like Hobbyking?
Thanks guys ..great job ..
elevator/flap mixes are also available on the Turnigy 9X. Just saying. You don't need the brand name products to get more features.
hey guys. i love your vids. what kind of data logger did you used for this vid? thanks
@wilcohijink thanx so i just have to but the attachment and solder it on so i can use my computer to download new firmware
way better than having an empty pocket if i buy a DX8
Cool video, do you have a link for the GPS tracker you used?
:) Great video Guys!!
Very informative. When are you going to do helicopter stuff? You two could handle smaller ones at least.
@flite test- you guy are awesome but u would be even more awesome with a review on the carbon z yak 54! Anyone agree?
@ox141jf Search: Frankenplane

Lmao "It's ok, I'm gonna put flaps on it."

now people know where you're house is. thanks to the GPS location. :)
+Alexander Tornøe (Boreas) yeh... and the phone book!
1:43 DX8? Ho ya you have a DX8 with Turnigy neck strap. Horizon should look into this
@StewieRc good idea !
3 channel servo speed regulator still sold at hobby king.com
pretty cheep
what was used for GPS logging?
can the tunigy 9x do flaps and servo slowing and delay?
HIWHERE IS THE VIDEO FOR FRANKIN PLANE

I have flown allot of planes and ahev never ever flicked the switch for flaps and it pitch up :s cool video though :)
could you please get someone to review the horizonhobby heli's?
Where on your receiver do you plug in your flaps?
Barsukbrecon I use Aux1 on the receiver with the 3 position flap switch on the transmitter
can you land a warbirds like the p47 with just take off flaps or do you need full flaps

Do a review of this plane
@flitetest Same thing with DX-6 ?
thank you tell me that on video !
@numex106 wich heli
i can do one on msr
Is Horizon going to discontinue this model? My LHS is selling them for 130 BNF and he really wanted to get rid off them it seemed.
What store was that ? I want 1....
DX6 does it too. A lot cheaper than DX8
I like flaps
I have a question does horten ho229 has flaps to slow down? ???
Antaluss66afira66 bf110 it has air brakes
why don't u aim a uav at the flaps
Ur sevo arm is off
Unscrew it and get it in place then fix it back in again
@jwjwjwjwjwjwjwjjwjwj Yeah, they just got sponsored by horizon in the past few months
Make a gyrocopter!
How about programming in "Crow" to see what that does.Thats what I use on my Radian . Be interesting to see the difference ;o)
