Unbelievable. I got an X-570 from goodwill for $6 that wasn't turning on with new batteries. Because of this video, I checked the battery door with a volt meter set to ohms and it was making no contact. I smashed the inside film down with a pick and now the camera powers on and fires. Thank you, this might have seemed like a no-brainer to someone who works on cameras but I would have never even thought of this and this camera would have gone in a drawer.
unbelievable I stumbled across your video, had this issue and wouldn't you know it ,I cleaned the battery door an contacts in the camera end and it works
Tech tip. If you want to clean out the corrosion out of that old battery door, just drop it in some white vinegar and leave it overnight. In the morning, once the vinegar has eaten away all the corrosion, simply wash it out with rubbing alcohol to flush out the vinegar.
@@Frisenette Vinegar isn't that strong of an acid. It requires time, unless you want to do all the work yourself with the scrubbing. Overnight is minimum.
@@vhfgamer it’s strong enough to leave marks if there are impurities in the metal, if left for hours. Any film or corrosion will be long gone, including perhaps some of the cap. Use a toothbrush.
Just bought a Minolta X700 and after two hours of use the camera was not switching on... Just watch your video, check the battery cover and I saw it was worse than yours... I clean it with baking soda and a toothbrush I dried it and... works. I can't be more thankful to you! Thanks!!!
I replaced the capacitor in my X-9 and it looked like the capacitor had already been replaced by a previous owner. I watched your video, cleaned the battery door and it now works. Thanks.
Many thanks, I purchased an x300 and I was ready to replace the capacitor following your video when I saw this other video, and in just 1minuteI solve it. ⭐⭐⭐
Thanks for linking this in the description of your capacitors replacement video! It saved me from going and buying a soldering iron and capacitors, cleaned up my battery tray and works like a charm!
I own a X370 and just bought a X700. I put fresh batteries into the X700 and it would not turn on at all. Following your advice I just used the X370 battery compartment and now my X700 powered on and functions (haven't film tested yet) as one would expect. I'll have to see about cleaning my battery compartment and trying again later but for now I'm very happy for such an easy quick fix! Thank you!
Thank you for this video. The shutter of my X-700 wouldn't fire, even with new batteries. But I got it to work. I didn't replace capacitors. I simply removed the batteries and rotated the little plastic sleeve in the battery door, just spinning it around a few times. I re-installed the batteries and door and it worked as good as new. 02 Oct 2023

Unbelievable! Thanks for this hint! I had this idea as well, cleaned the top of the metal, which didn't help... But putting a peace of tin foil did the trick.
Noooo way. just cleaned the battery door (very little clear erosion) with some rubbing iso and boom, straight to life. thanks so much i didnt hope for much out of this untested camera and now she has life!!!! thanks so much
Gonna leave this comment and hopefully it helps someone. I had the same problem with my Minolta X-700... batteries were charged, battery door was clean and power was being supplied because the light meter was turning on. (Also the blue capacitors are plenty fine and rarely fail, after they started making X-700s in the 2 million +, that s when they started using cheap capacitors which look like steel grey cylinders). If it is STILL not working after all that, you might need to take off the lens and carefully lift the mirror and let it fall. Possible that there was a jam somewhere and just needed some extra help. But be careful not to smudge or scratch the mirror or the focusing screen cause its not easy to clean/fix.
Given that your capacitors were the blue kind (solid tantalum), my guess would have been from the beginning that they were not the culprit. Because they are not the kind that are susceptible to failure. It is the black, cylindrical ALEC type capactors that fail.
I just bought an x700 it wasn't turning on, with all the video talking about the capacitors i thought i'll have to change them but just with a q-tip an a drop of alcohol in the battery door and now it work !
I cannot believe this worked! I was sitting here, ready with the soldering iron to remove my capacitor, read your comment and decided to give it a try. Thank you! Saved me a ton of trouble by messing about with a good capacitor! I tried with a couple different shaped tin foil pieces but in the end, the only one that fully worked was a 1.5mm (roughly) square - doubling up didn't work either. Since sheet in a small square shape, brilliant.
Hi there! I have the same problem with my Minolta x700 .. I still don't know if it's the capacitor or the battery door... I'm definitely gonna try that before anything! thank youuuuu ☺☺☺
What type of capacitors? I have this going on with my x-570. The shutter works for a while but then all of a sudden the mirror locks up. I assume that’s a capacitor issue??
Make sure your battery is fresh and have 3+V voltage by testing with a multimeter. See my other video: ua-cam.com/video/nUXRW2vtXrw/v-deo.html for capacitor specs (in the description) and how-to replace tips. But if mirror locks up it could also mean battery power is lost, might also need to check corrosion on battery caps, sometimes corrosion is hidden in-between sandwiched layers on the battery cap on x-570/x-700 and hard to detect unless you test voltage with a multi-meter to confirm.
Hi in my x300 the shutter button and the advanced knob is not working but the indicator in the viewfinder works please help and when I click the shutter button viewfinder indicator light goes off then I have to turn the camera back off and on
Hi I’m having an issue with my Minolta. It’s a XG-A Minolta it worked in the past no issues now I try to press the shutter and it does nothing and I have replaced the batteries and the BC ( battery check) light lights up red I’m not sure what’s going on with it.
Don't have experience with the XG-A but the capacitor could be an issue, I found this article detailing the steps on replacing it... simonhawketts.co.uk/2016/05/04/minolta-xg-m-capacitor-replacement/ Might have to find a reputable camera repairman to do the job, but then it might just be worth it to get a new camera with the cost of the repair...
Five minutes of video for an issue which can be described within one sentence: If the X-700 is not working, check and clean the battery contacts first.
My Minolta X-700 was fine until one day the power switch seems to be stuck out of nowhere and I'm unable to shift it to on, does anyone have a fix for this?
If the LEDs light up that is not going to work. If the LEDs *don’t* light up cleaning the contacts is what any person who would/should think of taking the camera apart would do.
@@TheGizmoGarage the camera will not use power on lighting up the lights if it feels there is too little voltage. It will use the last juice to fire the shutter. That is an official safety measure implemented by Minolta. That makes it virtually impossible to see lit LEDs, and not have the shutter fire.
@@Frisenette I am sorry but you never know what kind of weird things happen to those dated electronics after 40 years. Doesn’t hurt to check and it happened to me so I know it happens.

Works for terminals, sometimes the wire gets corroded and simply snap... which might require more work.
A night is overkill. Half an hour with intermittent scrubbing is all you need.

Not sure but if viewfinder led still works then it’s probably not the capacitor issue but something mechanical
I was doing something with the camera and i moved the diaphragm control lever with my hand and clicked the shutter
Is it due to moisture or dirt in the camera because it not used for 5 years
If the light meter works but the shutter does not fire. It's likely not the battery door.
Question about the panasonic capacitors, they are not 220 as tje original, but 160 i think. Are they still that good?
They worked, however to be safe I think you can stick to the 220
