আমি নিজে রেলওয়েতে চাকরি করি। অফিসের অবস্থা খুব খারাপ। গরমে কাজ করা যায় না। শনিবার অফিস করতে হয়। সারা বছর হাতে গোনা কিছু ছুটি। Je, sse আর অফিসারদের অবস্থা আরও খারাপ। কোনো Work-life balance নেই। আর pension এর কথা তো নাই বললাম।

There is no camparison atall,WBCS group A,B officers are basically the decision makers,hold the key posts,superior post of the department whereas SSC Cgl Inspectors and others work with subordinate profile,they hardly remain in decision making positions,they lack the due authority over their subordinates,a person getting recruited at 4600 GP at max can retire with the GP of 7600 that too if one is absolutely lucky or hails from some reserved category whereas in WBCS Group A,B,officers usually retire with the GP not less than 8900/ and occupy much much more superior and prestigious posts before their retirement and SSC CGL officers are always juniors and subordinate to these officers recruited through WBCS but I feel the salary difference is creeping up with every passing half of a year as CG is paying timely DA thats why the comparison is actually coming and our present WB govt must look into this,at present the starting salary of these state recruited officers must be atleast 85 k pm so stop being compared with the CGL counter parts but ofcourse getting into a gd post through SSC CGL is also not a matter of joke these days and SSC CGL jobs despite being group B also prestigious in their own ways. !! There is no way anybody can disrespect them,they are also doing great to the service of our nation..!! But lastly to me,any JOB throuh UPSC CSE is more prestigious and superior to these WBCS Group A,B Profiles,Sir you may not be aware of the profiles of IIS or IPoS,the persons recruited in these cadres hold very very important positions under central govt,in other states the disparity in DA and other allowances are not their therefore people usually opt for UPPCS,RAS etc despite getting into IIS,IPoS etc but you know that story of WB is very different..
Yes I agree, but personally for me prospect of living in WB throughout my life near my family trumps above all. So this is the best service for me.

Basically OPS is a huge load on exchequer of the Government. However, the action of the state Govt by not not implementing NPS is only raising doubt about the intention of the Govt to pay the pension. One needs to note that even govt has to contribute 10/14% of basic and da. Just by not implementing NPS, the state govt is saving the same and may scam the employees in future. Worthy to mention that OPS in best in respect of the employees, but NPS is better if the govt want to maintain the fiscal prudence.
Government can't scam employees, it's not some cheat fund scheme, government will create sovereign bonds to raise the money. My prediction is that WB will implement NPS within the next 5 yrs. States like Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Punjb also provide OPS
@@resiliencewbcsbyankitaThe total idea of not implementing NPS in the state does not originate from socialism rather it is a populatratorian step. The govt who is promising pension totally understand the fact that they won't be in power when these employees will retire. The then govt who will be in power will be held responsible if they fail to keep promises. So what I mean to say is that idea of not implementing NPS is only creating future havoc for the state. Creating new government bonds may be a way of generating capital for paying the pension, but how is it going to impact the state? Just you are taking money in credit to pay the pension bills?
However I hope that there will be no such issues. The atmosphere that the govt has created by denying DA has created a sense of disbelief in me.
Anyways let's only hope for the best.

In a nutshell I believe WBCS is a game of patience plus hardwork. If one can start a bit early nd keep patience then I believe best to go for WBCS as one can get an administrative post that too in his or her home state alongside enjoying social prestige and countless other benefits. Whereas SSC CGL is more of an aptitude based examination which may fetch us a job faster but then promotion is bit slow in CGL. In Banking I believe the process of recruitment is the fastest amongst all jobs and they enjoy a lot of perks but then many find the exam level tough like me and there is this obvious chance of getting a posting outside his or her state if they get selected as PO. And in CGL and Bank they dont get a handsome pension like WBCS officers do. If someone is jobless then they should first get a job which is easier to crack than civil services but always aspire for WBCS because ultimately WBCS is the best state government job if you want social respect and power and want your retired life safe and secure. Banking might give you a lot of perks and benefits now but in the end if compared WBCS has a different charm and a glory and is itself an Insignia. Plus comparing the age limits which is fixed at 28 and 30 for most central government jobs, WBCS has its age limit till 36 for Group A, B and C and for D it is till 39 years and that too for general category, so WBCS is like an icing on the cake- and there is one proverb in Bengali which i dont think many are aware of - WBCS kauke pheray na which means that if one is consistent in their preparation and can work hard then one day they will surely crack this exam with flying colours and make themselves and their parents proud. To end this discussion i will again say i am not against any job or post. All jobs are good in their own perspective and ways. It depends on person to person what they want

Should there be any comparison between WBCS and CGL jobs? The former deals with the state matters(state civil service) and the later deals with Central ones (Central civil service). Being a central govt employee I can say that allowances and perks are huge along with facilities in CG job. On the other hand WBCS officers enjoy power and they are decision makers in comparably small fields. Promotional aspect in CCS is not slow in every department and one can go from level-7 to level 13A without any reservation.
I think you should inspire people for WBCS. They may get less salary(as per salary slip) but people do not have any idea how much a SDPO makes per day( I repeat per day)! It is unimaginable! And BL&LRO sleeps on money! No one can make these pecuniary benefits from Central govt jobs leaving some particular departments.
And central govt offices are large too and the officers also get vehicles(With proper registration and PUCC)! I don’t know about railway because railways is itself a filthy department due to some reasons. But the CG offices I have visited for official purpose are more clean and tidy than state govt offices.
I am very sorry, I didn’t wanna hurt anyone but this is fact.
Nonetheless, please do not compare between central and state jobs. Each of them has different charm along with pros and cons!
Please also do write similar reply to your CGL colleagues who were mocking and commenting about the WBCS officers.

Sir, I want to add two more differences from a central government employee perspective.
1) Mindset (grade pay vs. job profile): In my office, we hail from different states of India, but the main point of discussion is always "grade pay." I had no idea about this before joining the central govt service. But now my ears beg peace from the continuous listening of 4800 GP, 4600 GP, and 4200 GP. Even a very senior officer advised me upon entering the office not to shift my mind from the goal of achieving 4600 GP. They are such senior officers, but still, they talk about grade pay, not about the job profile. I have never seen a civil services aspirant (UPSC CSE and WBCS) discuss level 10 or 5400 GP. And btw, in central government jobs, there is a stark difference between the designations of an officer and a staff. With 4600 GP, you are only a "staff."
2) WBPSC, like other PSCs, is a constitutional body. And civil servants recruited by it are "appointed" by the honorable governor ("The Governor has been pleased to appoint..."). In the case of SSC, it's a random IRS (full respect for both). Unlike WBPSC, SSC is an executive body, and the government can bring about changes in the body and scheme of examination with a mere executive order or notice. Like, they changed the exam pattern for SSC CGL in 2022. In the case of WBCS, it's a long bureaucratic process with multilayers of approvals involving the cabinet of West Bengal, PSC chairman, gazette notification, etc.
You just can't compare apples and oranges.

Very insightful sharing, in this case Bank pos fare better than CGL portfolios since they are deemed as officers from the beginning,RBI grade B officers get rather satisfactory experience cum growth and probably the best among central Govt employees except few top of upsc profiles.....

Leaving aside everything, what particularly attracts a candidate appearing for a Civil Service exam is the POWER and the GLAMOUR of the jobs...
Now since I got my present job through SSC CGL, I can assure you one thing that CGL is more of a aptitude based test whereas I feel WBCS is more of a memory based test ... I guess candidates must be concerned about their choice of exam rather than comparing different exams... It's not going to take you (future aspirants) anywhere...

Especially when it's all relative nd ultimately content by serving the country, sense of achievement and happiness are all that matters....After IAS(home cadre)/IFS/IPS(home cadre)/IFoS/IRS and WBJS inevitably comes WBCS Executive,WBPS,WBRS in the usual preferential hierarchy if one does a holistic analysis....You have to realise who are your larger audience (those without IIT/IIM/NLU/St stephen/Srcc degree , thus having no means to get placed or likely to be placed as a front end Management Consultant/Investment banker/Private equity/Venture capitalists of Big 3/Big 4 or JP Morgan or BCG/McKenzie/Bain et all or Senior Advocate of Supreme court at a very young age or AOR of Supreme court, or a top notch law firm),so my point being such comparison of financial aspects (in case of private employees of highest echelon,so comes the job security excuse) and of power (with AOR who will eventually become Supreme court Judges,so no match) will be puerile ....So in this trying time, we need u by our side for guidance regarding preparation nd a little clarity not for any comparison among the services which contribute equally in their respective capacity and forum....

Banking sector is the worse,ofc wbcs group c is even better than that.But some CGL posts have almost no political interference and people prefer peace over big offices.Some CGL posts may outright be better than wbcs,ASO MEA can become IFS in 23 years if promotion is smooth.EO of ED can become deputy director within 15 years also.At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference and that particular service,Wbrs is the best imo in wbcs but some cgl post might be better depending on preference.
