  • This a super rare early 1970s tube guitar amp built by Terry Marshall, the son of Jim Marshall and the 'T' in JTM. I sounds like a JTM to me, wonderful. I'm playin g it through a 1972 Marshall 1960B with T1221 G12M Greenbacks with Pulsonic cones using a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom with a 1977 DiMarzio Super distortion ion the bridge.

      Thanks Dan! Yeah I always managed to break those switches on the cassette decks I had so I had to push the stumps of the switches each time 😂 they are not around anymore for a reason

    It reminds me of a 1972 50W JMP I had. I wish I could find that sound in a 15 watt amp.

    • @JohanSegeborn
      @JohanSegeborn  2 місяці тому +2

      Yeah, this hi res bass content needs more power than 15W I think, I’d love to be proven wrong on that though

      @@JohanSegeborn Me too, you need the loud clean decibel level to deliver that punch.

      Interesting question. I’ve always sort have assumed this myself.
      But I recently picked up a bassbreaker 007 10” inch combo( based on Johan’s video from several years ago) and put in a Jupiter speaker ( P10R clone with 15 watt paper voice coil). I really thought the low end would be lacking in this amp. But I’ve been very surprised at the low end punch of this single 10” speaker and 7 watts of power even with bass at zero and mids at 10.
      Presumably the bassman/ JTM tone circuit, which is a big part of the sound.
      I wonder how close the right 15 watt amp would come in a 2x10 format with two 15 watt speakers.
      In the USA, I’d check out the 18W Reinhardt. Not sure how hard they are to come by nowadays but the ones I heard back in the day in Nashville were amazing at small club volumes.

    Hey J, has anyone done a circuit trace of this amp? Initial glimpse of the guts it doesn't seem like it would be hard replicate. I can see all the caps have been replaced except maybe the tone stack. Interesting construction how everything amp 'block' is separated. If the person who loaned you this did the recap, maybe they can tell you if it's a jtm45 just with a different physical layout. Sounds really good. 👍🤘

    It sounds gorgeous either way! Yet with EQ you can always refine even more an already good sound.
    Those buttons on top of the inputs, is it an input selector switcher, so you don't need to externally patch channels?

    Snuffy's tone on all the Stray Dog stuff is some of my favorite tones ever! Would live to find a Thor amp someday. I'm still trying to find out what speakers he used. Seems like the split with Marshall they had to use Altecs in their cabs, but I'm not sure what cab Snuffy used on the records. Check out the demo Stray Dog "crazy bout to loose my mind" insane tone and playing. Stuffy does mostly TV show music now and has been really successful with that, but I wish he would rock out more!

    Hey , Johan I have a question . I was playing my Marshall Studio Vintage with the matching vertical stack 2/12 (like the one you played) and I had it jumped and cranked as loud as it could go and our bass player still drowned me out . He plays a 90's peavey with 2" 10 and 1 18" . I asked him kindly to turn down , and he did but he turned it back up . Am I the one with the weak amp or is the volume of his bass too loud ? I even had ear plugs in and it was still killing my tone . Can phasing issues happen between to different amps . It was sounding "wobbly" . Like how two strings sound when you almost have them in tune . We are playing in a small club .

      Audiomax is very similar to jbl contruction, super efficient, big magnet, alu domes, ribbon voicecoil wire etc. I have a 15 in a cab now that sounds very D130/K130-ish and waiting for the 12 inch version that comes in this week :)
      I"ll send you a private email if you're interested in trying them. Then we work it out :)
      How they relate to Audiom i have no idea. Never played them, but will be trying soon!
