You need two or more accounts for that. A base is worth 10k to 11k. You can't get 40k directly attacking them. But if you set up the first attack and say get 3.5k in it, you will be left with 6.5-7.5k for the 2nd attack. You farm those 2nd attacks. 7k*6 is 42k.
I did it, and it didn't really help, I think its because of my super miners being only level 2. I will continue using hog gliders until they are level 5

you took down 3 bases with 2 attacks each, there is no way that equates to 40k points.. you would literally need a second account to set up the first one like you did, but it still doesn't equal out to 40k a piece between the two as your second account probably isn't hitting even 20k points you would have to 1 attack each base to get close to 40k on near max to max capital bases

I usually only get 20k-30k with the Hog Glider strategy, but once I get maxed Super Miners things are gonna be CRAZY
Don't regret maxing out the miners first in our clan when the update dropped
I've been using a combo of 3 dragons, 4 minions and 5 balloons with 3 skeleton spells, with that I've been able to 2-attack bases pretty regularly
