Thanks. This was really clear. I particularly liked that you showed how to place the metal barrier - quite a few other videos don't.

It is important to note that certain by-laws and building codes are particular in their views on the construction of living roofs. For example; in Canada, it is required that we have a minimum 12 inches of width of gravel as a fire barrier bordering our living roof installations. Think of it as a frame.
I love to see these and it is so important to mention the financial and ecological benefits these wonderful roofs can provide! Cheers.

Great. Video. Truly inspiring for a solo diy projects. Where did you get your stainless steel edging? I have made several green roofs but all with reclaimed materials. These were fine as they were not for habitable spaces. Now I am ready to make more for habitable spaces I need to use a surefire system. So need the steel edging. Love your encouragement to get people to use dead spaces.

What a cool project! I have been repairing a flat roof down here in Tucson for about a week and it's a fight against UV and water penetration. It is amazing all of the products I have been using say they are going to give me cancer and they are very heavy. Any idea how long this roof will last? Hard to imagine what our neighborhoods would be like if all homes had this setup and significantly reduced the flow of toxins into the environment. Great job and thanks for sharing!

If it sequesters 150kg of carbon per year, how do you factor that into the structural load rating? 150kg /# of square meters of roof area and derate the carrying capacity by that much per year?
