Nice GTI Paul, in case you didn’t already know, here’s a couple of shortcuts you might find useful, when the heated steering wheel is already on you can tap and hold the button to switch it off without having to go through the other two heat levels first, another way to mute or pause audio is a quick press of the power button to the left of the heater controls, and to minimise the detail on the speedometer screen you can press and hold the VIEW button on the steering wheel, this removes the left side and right side information but leaves the centre in view, press and hold VIEW again to revert to full information, and the most useful one, is to drag down from the top of the screen to show the customisable shortcuts screen.
All Golfs made from April 2022 onwards have a more powerful chip powering the infotainment system. So if you're ordering now, your unlikely to suffer as glitchy or slow of a system as the early MK8 Golfs. Also while the lack of buttons is annoying and a bit hard to get used to at first, it's really not that deep. Once you get used to it, and have the shortcuts set up to the main settings you change. It's actually easy to live with
Congrats Paul! Long time sub here. And actually owner of this exact spec in a Mk7.5. So it’s exciting to see this evolution play out with one of my fav automotive UA-camrs. Please don’t forget about this car once your collection builds! You’ve now jumped into a huge cult of an ecosystem that people will enjoy watching just as much as supercars imo
As someone who buys 5yr old cars rather than brand new, I really don’t like all of the touch screen tech. It never ages well. But the golf Gti is THE quintessential daily driver. Nice work dude.
I agree, I honestly don't understand what car manufacturers are thinking putting touch screens in everything. Just why?! It is so unsafe because you actually need to look at what you are touching, taking you eyes of the road, and it will never give the same sort of confirming feedback than an actual button would.
I've no real problem with touch controls being used, but they need to be implemented perfectly. Car manufacturers have had decades of development on switch gear, buttons, dials etc, so we take it for granted how well they work. But with touch, they've had merely a couple of years of development time. It's gonna be a long time before touch controls work as well as physical switch gear. So... There should be a physical option for every touch control, until they get the experience bang on.
The EA888 is an absolute masterpiece of engineering. I’ve got the 7.5 Golf R. Drove 150 miles at the weekend in eco mode managed 48.4 mpg. Unbelievable
Its sad but the views dont justify it anymore. Im an OG subscriber but we’ve gotta admit, Paul failed to sort of set himself apart from this saturated car vlogger market. I still support him but youtube just aint showin any love anymore
Also, he just isn’t 20-22 y/o anymore. I’m sure coming out to a Lamborghini and R8 is exhausting (and expensive) when you just wanna zip to get a bite to eat lol
I had a MK8R for 9 months, sold it and bought a MK7.5. The MK7 is a far better car. The 8R is great to drive, the dampers are better. But that's it. The 7.5 has a much nicer interior, the infotainment feels like a big upgrade over the 8's. And the materials used throughout are so much nicer. Things missing in the 8 like gas bonnet strut, cup holder cover, directional headlights, headlight washers, air con controls, volume controls.... The PHYSICAL BUTTONS! I've no issue with touch controls, but the implementation in the Golf is awful. Other things like having to turn off lane assist EVERY SINGLE TIME you get in the car, and that it forgets which drive mode you were in when you turn off the engine is insane. Get a MK7.5.
Just wondering why people who obviously had a bad experience with the mk8 watch videos about it ,:-) , I have had a mk7.5 was a good car but each to there own opinion and experience, I would not pay current market rate for a car 6/7 years old , much prefer a warranty and something a bit newer , and don’t really care about the strut or cup holder, headlight washers I always find useless anyway, I am thinking about buying either a mk8 or 8.5 if I can be patient enough to wait here when it is released in 6 months ,
I’ve had a sh8 GTD since December (delivered 6 months late) to replace a 7.5. What I’d give to have the 7.5 back! Without getting started on the crap infotainment, interior with little storage, lack of gas struts under the bonnet and no space saver (I’d have optioned if I’d realised/been told… had to order at the height of lockdown so no showroom visit or test drive) the mk sh8 has been back to two different dealers with various electrical and software faults on 6 occasions (including them neglecting to refit the underpan). Finally seems to be fixed with a replacement CPU rather than software updates as advised by the useless supplying dealer. It’s developed a fault with the drivers rear window now. By comparison, in the 4.5 years I had it, the 7.5 went to the dealer for nothing but annual servicing
You’ve written the comment that I would have written! had whole CPU changed within 6 weeks of ownership and after a 30 minute drive the same faults came up! Still to this day (18 months in) although much less frequent and with an infotainment reset, all gone… for a while! To be fair tho, Other than the shoddy electrical system, the GTD is not too bad at all
First I heard tony said in podcast about having a hatchback for daily and now Paul got one. Ever since hearing it I was thinking to justify getting a S3 or Golf R for daily. Now watching this video, actually a GTI looks tempting (or GTI clubsport), but it was annoying to adjust the temperature in the infotainment system 😕
Paul, change the windscreen wipers for Bosch...lovely car Mk8. I have driven RS3's, Golf R's ect when I worked for a German Car repair garage...my fav was the Golf GTI with a dsg box 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Not a fan of automakers putting 180 mph speedometers when top speed is 155 mph. Why not be realistic and have the speedo only go to 160? You’d still have a number displayed that is above actual capability. I think they just want to trick people into thinking it can go faster than it really can.
Or a mk 3.5 Leon cupra for even less? Imo nicer interior & gets the power down great on PS4S. 300bhp is a bit underwhelming with 4motion, same for the S3.
Just purchased the 24' GTI 380, last year for the manuals. I've had a GTI in every gen, but this one is the best driving experience I've had so far. My only complaint, is the whole front dash. The mk7.5 front dash was perfect from an aesthetic point of view.
The wiper issue is probably because the windscreen got a coating but the wipers did not. Then the wipers will drag and jump around which makes a lot of noise. Sometimes it goes away after a few rainy days but other times you might need to get the wipers also coated.

The absolute annoying thing about the Golf fog lights is they always force the night time head lights to come on even during the day. And no setting to change. Such a shame. Really nice exterior. The interior front and infotainment is terrible. Way way too much touch. Looks cheap. Love the new seats though.

Can someone explain why does UK have white plate at front and yellow plate in the back? Always wonder why...
Really not a fan of the light bar at the front or the fog lights. Ruin the front in my opinion
Glad you like your new car I drove the gti Honda r megane rs300 recently all new went the megane for the looks an sound actually but I do like your gti
For 30k that’s one hell of a nice piece of kit.
BEST FEATURES....BROOM BROOM NOISES AND SOME LIGHTS......😀😀😀😀
Super looking car! Great to see you so happy in something so attainable!
The absolute annoying thing about the Golf fog lights is they always force the night time head lights to come on even during the day. And no setting to change. Such a shame.
Really nice exterior.
The interior front and infotainment is terrible. Way way too much touch. Looks cheap. Love the new seats though.
Love the GTI content!
Loving the Daily 💥💥💪💪💪💪
I had read somewhere or maybe was another video from someone else, that recommended to take the car to a VW dealership and have THEM update the software, it is quicker when they do it, also I have been very lazy to set up the app so my gti does not welcome me 🙃
Gt
Please don’t tell me the wipers are really that loud ? 🤣 love these cars though, just would prefer leather seats rather than the tartan.
I do love a golf but does it look special enough for the money
Supercars of London Awesome Video I'm glad your First 24 Hours in your MK8 Golf GTI went well and I can't wait to see what you'll get done and what Supercar you'll get
A factory reset of the Infotainment would do it wonders. I purchased an ex demo Superb a few years back, had about 30 phones attached to it!!! Factory reset.... Brand new
Wipers trying to sound like a tuned GTI downshift 😂
It's great to see one of the bigger automotive UA-camrs show the Golf GTI some love and attention. I'm surprised you didn't go for a Clubsport though!
Bigger youtuber? Have you looked at his views?
he ain’t the biggest automotive youtubers chill out thats a wild exaggeration
Very nice looking car indeed . Do u need to wrap u don't keep for long do u? Better than TGE more humble .Infontainment has upgrades as niggles .
Yaris sport reliability supreme but it's looker for sure.
You look like a Viking from todays' who loves cars! 😆❤
The vw gti 👌👌👌
WRAP/WHEELS/EXHAUST - Repeat
They look so much better without the god awful looking alloys that come as standard.
Fellow Mk8 GTI driver here. Really love the spec on that one and the tartan seats really define this car 👌
It updates on home WiFi
I almost purchased a used 08 vw gti for 50k!!! here in Canada but I found out it had water pump issues
Vw has lost me as a gti owner until they sort out those electronic interfaces.
Beautiful GTI good choice👏👌
Looking at buying this spec gti In Dubai and it’s 40grand 😞
How much did you pay for the car?
Get the APR upgrades
Imo the Cupra Formentor 2.0 with 310 hp is a better car, looks better and of course the engine
Good choice of a day to day car
