That's because it's the only footage known to exist of *part* of the incident. What the camera focuses on is the blue tank falling after it already launched into the air.

Slow it down to 0.5 speed. Blue water barrel is in the middle focus point. Comes straight down and the camera man notices and begins zooming onto it. As for the young man who went flying, its too small and blurry plus its far away in zoom to tell where it would be if we could even have seen it.

The explosion also knocked another guy to the ground. You can see him get up off the ground maybe six to eight feet left of where people are starting to circle around Owens. Then he staggers off to the right past the commotion.

Most Folk's don't know, but Randy was Miss Lynda's little brother & by many year's her junior. Randy was almost like another Son to Richard & was actually Kyle's best friend, almost like brother's were those two, just a year apart in age. Truly a dark day for the Petty Family 🙏

KP & Davey were kinda welded at the hip, because of their Famous Father's & them growing up in the racetrack infield's of NASCAR together, then that damned helo 🙏 Hollywood couldn't write Kyle Petty's script, but they really should make a movie outta KP's life story!

@@Slinger43 id be interested to see a documentary on it with his POV for sure Me and my family were there when Adam passed and when Irwin passed. I live 30 minutes away from Loudon. I was only 3 years old so i dont remember much. I do remember seeing Irwins car on its roof but nothing else really. 2000-2001 was one of the most ridiculously sad periods i think anyone alive especially into motorsport would say probably is the most in our lifetime. Still 22 years or so later and its still something i see and read about often.

These were the good ole days of NASCAR, however very unfortunate Randy Owens was killed in a freak accident. This race started 50 cars, only 3 were in the lead lap at the finish. Richard Petty finished 19th, reason out of race wheel bearing failure. Buddy Baker won the race in the #15 Bud Moore car.

it's been a while since i've seen one but there used to be fire extinguishers that were full of water and pressurized by air. we used them years ago when welding. a guy, a fire watchman, would stand by with those tanks while we were welding. also, they were probably around 5 gallons or less. they were the size of todays C02 and powder extinguishers. i just googled them, they are still in use today.
