"The areas of strongest development were Syria, Asia Minor, Egypt, and North Africa, with some other notable centres such as Rome, and Lyons in the south of France." I don't think you read my previous comment. As I said before Mathematics existed in India before Islam. And Muslims did use Indian Mathematics but they also added more to it. For example they took Indian numerals and added the decimal point which was not in use at that time. The same with Algebra. This video is very inaccurate. It omits the widespread growth of Christianity in Africa and Asia in the first millennium, thus perpetuating the old myth of a Eurocentric Christianity. I was not expecting to see such hopelessly outdated and ethnocentric ally biased work in the year 2015, but there it is.
Portugal planted the church in Congo in the 1400s already, but it didn't last there because there was no translation. What I am talking about was much earlier. The gospel of Jesus came to Ethiopia possibly as early as the first century, but by the fourth century became the widespread religion in Ethiopia, led entirely by indigenous Ethiopians themselves, not Europeans. Also the church was established in Egypt before it was established in Europe and the map makes no mention of this whatsoever. Sudan as well, early church was established there by the fifth century but no mention of this on the map. Also, the fact that Christianity became the state religion of Armenia first, before this happened in the Roman Empire, is omitted. So there are so many grievous inaccuracies that I would never use this clip or refer to it in my history classes.

Frumentius, after establishing the church in Ethiopia was consecrated bishop by Athansius of Alexandria in 341 AD. Of course the Bible had told the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch from the court of Candace, Queen of Ethiopia, in Acts 8:27ff. According to the Bible the gospel would have reached Ethiopia in the first century, but historical records there do not confirm actually church presence until the time of Frumentius.
Also note the Stephen Neill on page 39 had pointed out that by the end of the third century there was no part of the Roman empire that had not been, to some extent, penetrated by the Gospel, but the distribution was very uneven. "The areas of strongest development were Syria, Asia Minor, Egypt, and North Africa, with some other notable centres such as Rome, and Lyons in the south of France." The video clip shows up only the European areas of strength in the first three centuries, while totally ignoring Syria, Egypt, North Africa, Asia Minor (modern day Turkey) and the other non European areas where Christianity was established early and with greater strength than in most parts of Europe.

That's a good point and I have nothing to counter that, the Church could be incredible brutal and corrupt, and common people could be irrational, but I can claim our understanding is exaggerated. It wasn't Christianity or religion alone or even primarily that withheld science, from my perspective. I want you to know why I responded to your comment, the idea of blaming religion for all things bad seems to be becoming very popular. Every idea needs a counter argument, or bad things could happen.

Depends on how you define agnosticism. There are agnostics of the kind you describe ("don't know this way or that way") but there are also agnostics of the "things like that can never be known"-brand, which is just as doctrinaire as any atheist (or believer).

I don't think you read my previous comment. As I said before Mathematics existed in India before Islam. And Muslims did use Indian Mathematics but they also added more to it. For example they took Indian numerals and added the decimal point which was not in use at that time.
The same with Algebra. It existed before, but Muslims advanced it to a higher level which we still use today. Algebra comes from the Arabic word Al-Jabr which means restoration.

This is not accurate. You forgot Zoroastrianism in Persia. Islam was never a majority in the Balkans. Christianity thrived in East Africa. Judaism was also in parts of East Africa. Guyana also has has a large Hindu Population. Buddhism is not a majority in China. You also forgot the small Christian population that lives in east India.

Spot on. Muslims believe the same God which sent down Moses and Jesus also sent down Muhammed to send the same message to humanity. Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Mary, Jesus, Muhammed and many others, according to Muslims, are prophets of the same God sending a message. Christians accept all but Muhammed. Which is where our difference comes from. Allah is the Arabic translation of God not something entirely different. Catholic Arabs refer to God as Allah.
I'm pretty amazed at the amount of people in this comments section that don't understand that the video is displaying THE MAJOR RELIGION of an area and as such will not show colours for the two Hindus who lived in Rome.
