One thing about the ST Awards, its graphic design...
From its start, based on the city set from its weekly series, on to the 90s where Don goes deep on our AFRICAN roots before BET took over.
They should bring back the OG trophy and coulda brought back the jazz and reggae categories.
If Don Cornelius bought up the reggae category 36 years ago, its winners coulda been Ziggy Marley, Burning Spear, Shabba, Buju, Beenie Man, Sizzla, name them.
But the ORIGINAL trophy needs to be RESURRECTED. That trophy represented OUR origins from OUR forefathers in Africa. I believe that mask is of Adwele origin, that face showed the Undiginified determination to move us. Just look at Quincy Jones' The Dude statue. I think BET shoulda kept the TROPHY because the REAL SOUL TRAIN MUSIC AWARD. I was dissapointed when BET didn't bring back the Heritage trophy.
