  • I wanted to have a bit of fun while practicing a walk cycle. I used the ​‪@kevinbparry‬ 's amazing walk compilation for the reference. His channel has some of the best animation reference anywhere.
    just the roughs for about 8 frames.

    It's so smart of him to do it on a treadmill so for animators you can really see how all the parts move relative to each other before actually moving it across the screen!!
    I just recently found your channel and it's been so helpful, most people focus on character animation and stuff like arcs and effects don't get talked about as much. It's been super helpful even though I'm working in csp

      his videos are great, I wish I had tonnes of time to do this stuff.
      Fx is such a forgotten realm lol. When I got started there was almost nothing. I learned a lot from taking apart reuse in the studios, and watching old movies.

    haw do you study from animation ref - and haw to keep the volume good in animate frame by frame ? - we wont more like this

      with volume you measure, measure measure.
      Always compare things to your first frame.
      The more you do it, the better you get at seeing it and keeping it consistent.

    usually the first question I would ask myself is where am I placing my camera? If the character is more parallel with the camera plane the less setup lines would need to be involved. It can be fun (and time consuming) when you put movement thru a fish eye lens at odd angles, however, usually there is a story element that goes with that. I think the only cartoon show that I have seen that used that regularly was called aeon flux on MTVs Liquid television segments. Dramatic impact must have been the key word they used when writing the scripts for the story board artists.

      I have that show on dvd! it was one of the first shows I ever seen that wasn't a kid's show.
      I've never tried traditional fish eye animation, we just cheat with the mesh warp. I should put it on my bucket list though.

      @@StylusRumble For such an odd show it worked with some rather complex themes. Usually shows that are made for the NC17+ crowed are rather shallow when it comes to plot but that one bucked the trend. Oddly enough the director of Aeon Flux, Peter Chung, worked on the show rug rats as a character designer and he was an interesting guy to listen to on the directors cut. I have seen some of his other works and his particular art style is vary apparent... in a good way.
