One clarification I want to make about Rare Species: It's possible I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure monsters are *born* as Rare Species, they don't "become" or evolve into that Rare Species. Eg. Rarely when a Lagiacrus is born, some latent gene or mutation is activated and they're an Abyssal Lagiacrus. It's just an occasional anomaly that allows these monsters to vastly surpass their peers. This is why Rare Species are their own category of monster. Subspecies don't work the same way in monster populations, Variants are regular individuals that become those Variants, and Deviants are a _type_ of Variant that's exceedingly unusual. Of course I'm free to be corrected about this, that's just from my understanding of the lore.

=face palms= Tempered Monsters are ones that have fought countless battles, an survived being hunted by Hunters multiple times. That is why they are so badass and gain new move sets. It's a matter of combat experience, NOT Elder Dragon energy.
The Tempered State has been officially established as being influenced by Elder Dragon Bioenergy, this is universal fact. And whilst some monsters may have amazing battle experience that make them standout as potential Elder Dragon Level, not all Tempered Monsters are capable of such a feat. This is why Threat Lvl 1 Monsters and certain Threat Lvl 2 Monsters are Tempered but not Elder Dragon Level, as they have Bioenergy in their body causing them to be tempered but they don't have the battle experience to gain a level similar to Elders. the thing i always find silly is that whenever you move up in rank the monsters just all jump in power, causing a basic af thing like a paolumu or a great jaggi to be stronger then all the lower level elder dragons, it's kinda ridiculous when you have a paolumu that looks the same, fights the same, no mutations or any shenanigans like that, regular monster at the bottom of the food chain, and it hits harder, is more durable and have higher hp then the elder dragons. It is so ridiculous when you were killing kirins and teostras left and right, spawn killing blue eyes white dragon then you move up the ladder it's a fuking furry baloon or Bambi's mom one shotting you. Always hated that mechanics where you move in rank, it is silly and seriously immersion breaking, also feels like all progress got reset and it's no point at all, and just leaves me asking how the fuk they explain it in the lore. I don't care how experienced that great jagaras is I don't see how it would beat any elder dragon with extreme ease, but if you were able to get a low rank elder dragon in master rank it would probably die to everything including the small monsters mob groups, which is pretty ridiculous. So seriously I never see it being asked, but how the fuk does it work lore wise?
I don't have a problem with the rank system though I just have a problem with how they progress, I'd take a system where you start at the low rank low level monster like a great jagaras, then you move to low rank rathien, but then a high rank great jagaras is as strong as a rathien, same with the stats for gears, then a master rank great jagaras is as strong as a high rank rathien which would be as strong as a low rank....say....diablos or zinogre, now maybe you start seeing variants of the lower level monsters, and so on, and it progresses like that. As for hunter ranks, low level hunters can come across the most basic things to things like low level diablos to zinogre, the high rank hunters would be fighting high rank rathien to low rank deviljho ish and master rank would be fighting master rank deviljhos rajangs and elder dragons
Well it’s just a way to boost gameplay time. So I fight rathalos twice , once in low rank once in high rank , I appreciate the skills change differing on the armor in the different ranks , so I may not use the same armor build I did in low rank as I will in high rank.

Something else to showcase what is considered Elder Dragon-level is to look at Turf Wars in MHW. All Elder-tier Monsters will win against Apex-tier Monsters they have Turf Wars, and any Monster that ties with them is considered Elder Dragon-level.
For the most part yes but sometimes "ties" arent well defined for example furious rajang vs ruiner nergi rajang goes into red arm mode to even land a blow while nergi just bitch slaps him away without much effort on his part

It’d still just be a Rathalos. When a Brachydios gets older, it becomes a raging brachydios. A raging Brachy is on an elder dragon, but is still a brute wyvern. The same logic would apply to a Rathalos
Akantor better make an appearance in the coming videos. If you want a Flying Wyvern that would happily take a Rajang, Deviljho, and Nergigante on in a 1v3 fight, that’s a titan who can get in there. Hell, Teostra fits in the giant’s mouth. Akantor even makes his habitat in the same locale as Crimson Fatalis.

Firstly yes he's elder dragon level, secondly Kirin is not actually an elder. It got classified as one because in the guild they had no Idea how to classify it and it's shrouded in mystery like most elder dragons.
Djho and Rajang are considered veteran elder hunters. They've lived as long as elder dragons and have only one purpose in mind: to hunt both hunters and elder dragons
Hm, I would recommend making a short List of every Rarespecies, Variant ect befor explaining them. Also, souldnt it be tri Videos? One for Deviants, Variants and Rares. One for Rajang, Shen and co. And one for buffed Monsters like Apex? Would make more Sense in my Opinion. Unfortunately, there's not enough info to determine what capacity Hyper State can be considered as in terms of power, this is why no one talks about it, not even the most dedicated of lore hunters in the JP community.

These types of monsters would've had much bigger, tougher, thicker and overpowered parts on their bodies. Elder Dragons is sort of a misnomer. Legally, an elder dragon is a monster who doesn't fit into any category such as brute wyvern flying wyvern fanged best etc. 90% of them are dragons but kirin doesn't fit and is a walking storm so it's an elder dragon

I would guess yian garuga could stand up to one and repel it, I would say yian garuga is similar to brachy and gammoth when it comes to the apex scale. They would probably maybe theoretically possibly could repel an elder dragon, and being able to repel a deviljho is a testament to that, so to answer your question yes and no?
@@gurburgandr yes and no it's an accurate awnser because Yian Garuga's main Shtic is that it's so agressive and clever it can compete with top tier monsters even though he's slightly stronger than a Kut ku. Surely it can try to break the elder dragon horns because it's clever enough for figure out that they're the source of their power dunno if it can actually break them though. In 2nd gen it was a midgame monster (same level of Blangonga) but in 4th gen it became the Apex of the Everwood (Rathalos level then) and in world is a postgame superboss that beats the shit out of a Devilijho so it's not easy to understand its position in the food-chain.
The Iceborne portrayal of Yian Garuga only shows it defending its territory and the Deviljho wasn't too bothered to eat it at the time. A full fight between Yian and Deviljho would easily be a win for our Pickle Boi. Scarred Yian (a Variant and Tempered) along with Deadeye Yian (Deviant higher on the foodchain) would be considered as the Elder Dragon Level. Both Scarred and Deadeye Yian have extreme battle experience, making them formidable monsters. Scarred Yian has the bioenergy of Elder Dragons boosting its natural abilities and Deadeye Yian has its extreme mutations to make up for lack of Elder Dragon influence. Hope that helps!
@@ChronoPinoyX You've forgotten Yian Garuga's main ability: brain. Yian Garuga is canonically one of the cleverest monsters in the franchise and it learns with time and fails and becomes better and better (that's why most of its G rank only moves in 4U "punishes" you if you attack it during big openings, it was an hint to that) so I think Yian Garuga may be clever enough for figure out that the horns are the Elder Dragon's source of power and trying to break them. If it can succesfuly break them he defentally stands a chance because it's strong enough to trip a Devilijho (wich is something even our hunters struggle to do because it has to be tired or with sewered tail in order to do that) that he could make a weakened elder flee. Maybe I'm giving too much credit to Garuga because it's my favourite monster but for me a battle between an Elder Dragon and Yian Garuga depends all if Yian Garuga is able to weaken the dragon before it dies (also because it's aggressivity would never make it flee). Said all of that, it still stands no chance against Devilijho because it doesn't have any horn gimmicky powers it's all Raw strenght and the poor Raven is defentally outmatched. Even if I'm wrong you should still give it an honorable mention in the second video, for me it deserves it.

A standard Yian Garuga, I would say not really. It can fend for itself against something like Deviljho if it needed to defend territory (seen in Iceborne) but it wouldn't last the entire fight. Scarred Yian (which is a Variant and Tempered in Iceborne) as well as Deadeye Yian would be on par to an Elder instead. Hope that helps!

It used to be, but then it was retcon'd down to Apex-level in later games, which MHW firmly cemented with it AND its Tempered Variant having ties with other Apex-tier Monsters. (BTW, "Apex-tier" is different from Frenzy Virus Apexes)

There's no kut ku, there are no konchu(I mean because of the absence of Konchu it can't even eat), scarred doesn't give its own equipment, only uses recycled Turfwars. (Doesn't even turf war against Devilijho wich he does during the cutscene). If we follow the turf wars litteraly considering even recycled ones Rathalos would be Elder Dragon tier too. Consider the following: Fulgur anjanath is on the same level of Tigrex or Diablos (it draws in those turf wars), but Against Rathalos it recycles normal anjanath and loses. Now by your logic Anjanath is apex because it draws with tigrex, but Rathalos wins against Fulgur anjanath, maling it stronger than an Apex AKA and Elder Dragon (no). Actually Fulgur anjanath kinda messes things up also because of Tobi Kodachi, according to the turf war Tobi Kodachi's voltage is more powerful that fulgur and it's strong enough for shock it? Also no, Yian Garuga was considered a Kut ku subspecies and a midgame monster (it was in the levels of Blangonga and Gypceros). It climbed the food chian to apex of the Everwood in 4U (where it became Rathalos tier).
The first 2 for sure, but normal Seregios without being a Frenzy Apex? Nah. He's shown to be equal to Azure Rathalos who is in the same Apex-tier as normal Rathalos.

Tempers are NOT elder dragon status, they are more on the level as Hypers and early stage Frenzied monsters.

Something else to showcase what is considered Elder Dragon-level is to look at Turf Wars in MHW. All Elder-tier Monsters will win against Apex-tier Monsters they have Turf Wars, and any Monster that ties with them is considered Elder Dragon-level.
For the most part yes but sometimes "ties" arent well defined for example furious rajang vs ruiner nergi rajang goes into red arm mode to even land a blow while nergi just bitch slaps him away without much effort on his part

Also imagine a Gold Dreadqueen Rathian its as strong as a tempered elder dragon and if it gets tempered ah its as strong as tempered furious rajang and of course Dreadking Silver Rathalos

Firstly yes he's elder dragon level, secondly Kirin is not actually an elder.
It got classified as one because in the guild they had no Idea how to classify it and it's shrouded in mystery like most elder dragons.
He'll definitely be covered in the next part that covers Monster species that don't require alternate forms to be considered Elder-tier.
Djho and Rajang are considered veteran elder hunters. They've lived as long as elder dragons and have only one purpose in mind: to hunt both hunters and elder dragons

These types of monsters would've had much bigger, tougher, thicker and overpowered parts on their bodies. I quote : "To protect the host, the scale worms amass to support areas that have broken off in attacks" and "It gets very irritated from the squirming". Idk if it's really related to Hyper monsters, but the two concepts are very familiar for me. So for now, in my headcanon, Hyper monsters are parasited monsters

Elder Dragons is sort of a misnomer. Legally, an elder dragon is a monster who doesn't fit into any category such as brute wyvern flying wyvern fanged best etc. 90% of them are dragons but kirin doesn't fit and is a walking storm so it's an elder dragon

I would guess yian garuga could stand up to one and repel it, I would say yian garuga is similar to brachy and gammoth when it comes to the apex scale. They would probably maybe theoretically possibly could repel an elder dragon, and being able to repel a deviljho is a testament to that, so to answer your question yes and no?

In 2nd gen it was a midgame monster (same level of Blangonga) but in 4th gen it became the Apex of the Everwood (Rathalos level then) and in world is a postgame superboss that beats the shit out of a Devilijho so it's not easy to understand its position in the food-chain.
The Iceborne portrayal of Yian Garuga only shows it defending its territory and the Deviljho wasn't too bothered to eat it at the time. A full fight between Yian and Deviljho would easily be a win for our Pickle Boi.
Scarred Yian (a Variant and Tempered) along with Deadeye Yian (Deviant higher on the foodchain) would be considered as the Elder Dragon Level. Both Scarred and Deadeye Yian have extreme battle experience, making them formidable monsters. Scarred Yian has the bioenergy of Elder Dragons boosting its natural abilities and Deadeye Yian has its extreme mutations to make up for lack of Elder Dragon influence. Hope that helps!

Yian Garuga is canonically one of the cleverest monsters in the franchise and it learns with time and fails and becomes better and better (that's why most of its G rank only moves in 4U "punishes" you if you attack it during big openings, it was an hint to that) so I think Yian Garuga may be clever enough for figure out that the horns are the Elder Dragon's source of power and trying to break them.
If it can succesfuly break them he defentally stands a chance because it's strong enough to trip a Devilijho (wich is something even our hunters struggle to do because it has to be tired or with sewered tail in order to do that) that he could make a weakened elder flee.
Maybe I'm giving too much credit to Garuga because it's my favourite monster but for me a battle between an Elder Dragon and Yian Garuga depends all if Yian Garuga is able to weaken the dragon before it dies (also because it's aggressivity would never make it flee).
Said all of that, it still stands no chance against Devilijho because it doesn't have any horn gimmicky powers it's all Raw strenght and the poor Raven is defentally outmatched.
Even if I'm wrong you should still give it an honorable mention in the second video, for me it deserves it.

It started becoming relevant in the food-chain only since 4U because they rewritten most of its and Kut ku's lore.
A standard Yian Garuga, I would say not really. It can fend for itself against something like Deviljho if it needed to defend territory (seen in Iceborne) but it wouldn't last the entire fight.
Scarred Yian (which is a Variant and Tempered in Iceborne) as well as Deadeye Yian would be on par to an Elder instead. Hope that helps!

It used to be, but then it was retcon'd down to Apex-level in later games, which MHW firmly cemented with it AND its Tempered Variant having ties with other Apex-tier Monsters. (BTW, "Apex-tier" is different from Frenzy Virus Apexes)

There's no kut ku, there are no konchu(I mean because of the absence of Konchu it can't even eat), scarred doesn't give its own equipment, only uses recycled Turfwars.

If we follow the turf wars litteraly considering even recycled ones Rathalos would be Elder Dragon tier too.
Consider the following:
Fulgur anjanath is on the same level of Tigrex or Diablos (it draws in those turf wars), but Against Rathalos it recycles normal anjanath and loses.
Now by your logic Anjanath is apex because it draws with tigrex, but Rathalos wins against Fulgur anjanath, maling it stronger than an Apex AKA and Elder Dragon (no).
Actually Fulgur anjanath kinda messes things up also because of Tobi Kodachi, according to the turf war Tobi Kodachi's voltage is more powerful that fulgur and it's strong enough for shock it?
Also no, Yian Garuga was considered a Kut ku subspecies and a midgame monster (it was in the levels of Blangonga and Gypceros).
