Anyone who's actually played this game can attest that an hour and a half is absolutely lightning-fast to a nearly unbelievable degree, even with zips involved. My first file for the game in which I refused to use wikis has over 80 hours.... and IIRC there's an official speedrun achievement to beat it in *under 10 hours*. Needless to say, this is extremely impressive and just a great run all-around. I also encourage anyone interested to buy this and LM2 when it comes out and support its awesome tiny dev team. (also he made the bosses look SO , *SO* much easier than they actually are....)
I still don't have that one last ridiculous achievement... It involves getting ALL the character achievements (you know what those are probably), beat the Hell Temple, finish the game within 10 hours AND defeat all the bosses on Hard mode. Good lord...
@@SmashTom Also you need to have hard mode active for hell temple (because you activate it permanently at a certain time in the file, and you can't do hell temple until all the bosses are dead), and I know there's at least one incredibly annoying miniboss in there that will be even more incredibly annoying in hard mode. (I haven't even finished hell temple normally lol)
This game is insane. I don't think I'll ever have enough patience to go through the whole thing on my own, but Nigoro made a big leap when making a game that requires so much patience time. It is really well executed too, with so many areas, items, and enemies. Huge respect for them executing such an unusual game so well.
1:36:50 Interesting, the spriggan statue is destroyed during the escape sequence, despite no player in their right mind ever thinking about going to that place lol
Jokes aside, just really seeing the depth of this game on this video. Fan of spelunky, but this game is very different. Both have secrets and things, but this game is like old school games to core. Gonna download now!
I've played this game severals times and never been able to remember all the puzles. In fact, I'd never finished this game without a guide, even after 60 hours researching nonstop. This game is so fucking cryptic it's almost impossible to beat. Regardless, my favourite metroidvania.
There's a guy named deceasedcrab on here that did the original la mulana and the remake. Each one is around a hundred episodes or so if I recall, at about 10 minutes a piece. he does things in the correct order. And it's a hell of a run. both of them.
Yeah I started playing it. I like it, but some of the puzzles are so obscure it's really not worth wasting hours trying to figure them out. Also the backtracking can be really dumb like in gate of illusion having to get the pepper, then go back to gate of guidance and use the pepper, then go back to the gate of illusion and get the anchor, than go look for a giant to use the mini statue on, then go back to gate of illusion. Oh and the jumping physics too. Like I said I'm enjoying it and it's been worth it, but some of the design choices seem extremely regressive for game design just to induce "old school difficulty".
It's awesome, but not for the faint of heart. It takes serious persistence and puzzle solving skills to play. Better get a notebook and write down ever clue you see--you might need it much later for puzzles that span multiple giant maps.
I saw this game at GDQ a few days ago now... and I gotta say I really think it looks super fun and cool to play. I'm gonna feature a playthrough on my channel, starting in a week or so. :) Thanks for the game tips GDQ, awesome.
I think i have a different version of the game, at 19:20 when you zip on top of the pot, that pot is moved away from the left wall for me and I cant seem to perform the zip with out it.
Isn't the aspect ratio kinda fucked? They gave the screen space for 4:3 video, but with the black borders on sides it's 16:9, so it's being squeezed to fit.
How different is the mantra chanting in the remake from the original? I thought I remembered deceasedcrab chanting LAMULANA in the Gate of Guidance, though my memory may be serving me wrong.
I do remember that. My question was about where you chant the mantra. Turns out I remembered wrong and the Gate of Guidance is where deceasedcrab read off the tablet, yelling "LA-MULANA" there as opposed to when he actually "chanted" it in-game. My mistake
The original is free, the remake is a lot more smoother in experience though. The game makes you scream in frustration sometimes but I enjoyed it very much, enough to beat it many times on both versions (and hard mode for the remake). If you really want the difficult experience, there's an extra area called Hell Temple.
The puzzles are hard and the bosses are hard, but the regular enemies are not hard. It's mostly traps and bosses that will kill you. But, there are some rooms with small platforms and enemies that will knock you off, sending you back significantly.
I never finished it (the bosses did me in, even if i could push through a few more I don't think I could finish it) and I still think it was a fantastic experience (on Vita), well worth it. Just seeing how bits of it comes together is lovely, you get no sense of the physical structure from this video
That would be Twitch.TV/UsedPizza Primarily he runs Kirby Superstar, though these days he's been a bit of a more casual player and a lot of for fun races, still a super chill dude though.
i love love love the music of this game... the game itself is just okay. imo, it's too difficult. the mechanics are fine, but the puzzles are just too difficult. ... kind of like castlevania 2 in a way. still, a good game overall.
Does someone know how to do the zip at 36:48 ? I keep watching this over and over but I can't deduce his input and I can't replicate it. I just can't get out of that ladder under the statue no matter what I try.
You do the setup for a raindrop, raindrop once, hold up, then jump and then jump again when you hear him grapple to the wall and release up while the screen fades. You should now climb ladders fast and as a result, that glitch occurs where you can clip through the goddess statue and get inside the tower.
1.3.3.1 most likely - required to do the routes he's doing since the dev has fixed a few of the things used in this run. Source - I began running this game recently.
I have never seen a Speedrun of Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. for n64. I would love to see you guys at AGDQ try it. or tell me why it cant be speedrunned
Metroidvania has been around since both Metroid and Castlevania have been. I see no reason to use the term that has been commonly used for the style of genre.
thank god that annoying piece of poohbear ain't playing this one, I watched him cuss out a fan one day on his channel for no reason , and refuse to watch his speedruns, and stopped donating until he is gone from them.

the one vod I've been waiting for. I love this game, even if I've never actually beaten it.
100% agree, been waiting for it because I missed the end
I feel that
this run makes one of the hardest games look like a joke
Hey La-Mulanites!
This game has me feeling like a little kid again trying to figure out how video games even work.
1:36:50 Interesting, the spriggan statue is destroyed during the escape sequence, despite no player in their right mind ever thinking about going to that place lol
it takes an incredible amount of courage to speedrun this behemoth of a game. Only thing bigger is the original
Sweet. I love spelunky
It's obviously Dragon Slayer 4: Drasl Family.
No, it is Super Puzzle Jump Girl Deluxe Advanced Arcade Edition Plus HD!
Jokes aside, just really seeing the depth of this game on this video. Fan of spelunky, but this game is very different. Both have secrets and things, but this game is like old school games to core. Gonna download now!
No, wait... this is Cave Story!

That shrine of the mother glitch though
I've never played this before but it looks really cool. And really confusing.

HAZZAH! God I love Deceasedcrab.
"really cool and really confusing" describes la-mulana perfectly
it's definitely worth it though

Man. Even after playing through it several times, I barely manage to do a Hell Temple run under 10 hours. What a ball breaker.
La mulana 2 is out now
i'm so pissed i had to travel while my favorite game was being played, great run!
Haha I thought I’d watch this to get a couple hints on going through the game
Epic run. A pleasure to watch!
Great commentary by Mike Matei
I saw this game at GDQ a few days ago now... and I gotta say I really think it looks super fun and cool to play. I'm gonna feature a playthrough on my channel, starting in a week or so. :) Thanks for the game tips GDQ, awesome.
What a run
i needed -35 h to beat the game. awesome run
I think i have a different version of the game, at 19:20 when you zip on top of the pot, that pot is moved away from the left wall for me and I cant seem to perform the zip with out it.
Who could possibly thumbs down this video??
reason i couldn't beat it... it was in elder faces - _ - ... yep
i think i was either drunk or half asleep when i wrote this

I learned to read a made up alien language for ESA, I think ill take on that mantra challenge.
How different is the mantra chanting in the remake from the original? I thought I remembered deceasedcrab chanting LAMULANA in the Gate of Guidance, though my memory may be serving me wrong.
You actually type it on the keyboard.
I do remember that. My question was about where you chant the mantra. Turns out I remembered wrong and the Gate of Guidance is where deceasedcrab read off the tablet, yelling "LA-MULANA" there as opposed to when he actually "chanted" it in-game. My mistake

Whats the commentators name? I'd like to see his speed runs.

Yeah I actually found him a week after posting this comment and I posted who he was. But it it got removed. Thanks though.

how do you do the graveyard of the giants zip

how do you exactly do that clip on 12:49
Is the hell stage optional?
thankfully it is, lol

great commentary and run. had to stop watching half way through because it was spoiling the puzzles and I still haven't finished this

The Puzzle of the game is unreasonable. just let player feels annoying and confuse. I play for 1 hour then give up.
Where's Ori and the Blind Forest???

Metroidian* Metroidvania is a crap term
Metroidvania has been around since both Metroid and Castlevania have been.
I see no reason to use the term that has been commonly used for the style of genre.
This game borrows much more from Maze of Galious than Metroid or Castlevania.
Am I the only one who thinks the original looked better? The graphics in this version look too bulky
