So the Neko rig can be thrown on a baitcaster. I’m really interested in finding more ways to fish with a medium action baitcaster so this is up my alley!
It's generally a deeper water technique- the mag style anyway but, I throw a regular size neko off the bank all the time, works great. You could use the mag setup I suppose, if you think you have some larger fish in the area I don't see why not.
Heck yes! You can down size it! You can hop it up which keeps it from getting stuck. You can rig it weedless (It's called a chicken rig then) You can make it as MEGA or finesse as you like.
Lol i love how y’all call a 12” worm a “magnum” worm. We throw 16” Baby Hueys and Mann’s 14-16” Jelly Worms on Ky Lake and have been texas rigging them for decades.
I throw the 16’s to but a Neko rig is a finesse presentation originally used wit 4-6in worms. I’m not calling the worm “Mag” it’s the upscaling of the rig in general. Always someone who needs to get into a worm size pissing contest.
That's a great setup. I don't have the rod but i have the reel and it's probably the best $99 reel you can buy. Caught a 9lb largemouth on a lipless with that reel on a 6'9 Mojo Bass worm, jig rod but I prefer a 7'3 for a lipless and worm. At least a 7 ft
The hook goes under the O ring and saves your worms, but that changes the way the hook sits in relation to the worm. If you use shrink wrap, the hook goes thru the shrink wrap. That way the hook is exposed more and increases your hook ups. Suggestion: try putting the hook thru the shrink wrap BEFORE shrinking it on the hook. If you like using shrink wrap. it might make another good video.
@@BassGeek you ain't letting nobody down~ keep up the hard work and tips, as always! (I'm literally rigging up a mondo neko rig right now lol to try tomorrow)
@@BassGeek it’s very neat. I’m having a hard time finding any curly tail worms over 7.5” locally. I’ll have to check back home when I move this week. I’ll let you know how it goes for me.
That's a quarter ounce. That's pretty much what I go with unless I have a lot of current then I add a tungsten Nail wait or two from Angler tungsten. The tungsten is small for the weight so you can push a couple up in it and not effect the action to much.
Yo-Zuri, Jenko and Lucky Craft mainly all 110’s. I really want to gain more confidence in them this fall. Most videos I watch fall and winter the jerk bait really shines above other baits. One thing I have to learn is to pause a little longer through the cadences.
hey Hank, it’s been a while since I have commented, but always enjoy your vids! Thanks for all you do. You got me thinking, I need to go back fishing the Neko rig more out deep. :-)
I been fishing a big 7” senko neko or chicken rigged for about 4 years and have busted a bunch of good ones. Actually need a heavy action rod to handle it.
I need a pecker... wait, hear me out. If you use nail weights, they insert all the way into the worm- and there's nothing to peck on the rocks- which means the fish can't find it in muddy water. I need some of the titanium, screw in weights with the little ball head on them- so the fish can find the rig in stained water- I need a pecker.
@@danielmcnish6555Weeeeell yes bass are active in summer however. When fishing in the lakes down south I promise by August they are NOT “active” the temps get high and the resolved oxygen gets low. Then the bass see sooooooo many crankbaits and fast moving baits they ignore them as it gets hot. So moving from reaction to dragging baits is a have to. This works great in the deep open ledges during the day
@@danielmcnish6555 lol ok bub don’t know where you are but come on I can show ya school after school after school and any good ledge angler will tell ya they can read the serial numbers off the cranks and spoons, and swimbaits. I’m guessing you don’t do a lot of ledge fishing
No man there isn’t just 1 local guy and it’s a reeeeeeeeeereeally badly kept secret. When you are in these “circles” you all share things then you hear the same thing from multiple guys then you realize that it’s not a big secret anymore but the larger public May knot know about it. So it’s really not a huge secret. As it was say 5yrs ago.
The comment about always leaving some slack in the line and your pole position made me an instant subscriber. And the lews comment didn't hurt either.

Yes this is a larger version but yes.
@@BassGeek so a normal can be throw and the magnum Neko?
Now that is a neko rig.
Yes it is.

Nice 👍 I’ll give it a try
It's a beast.
Good stuff, Mark zona did a video on this probably a couple years ago.
I've seen him talk about the Neko not the mag but it's the same thing really. hahahaha

I love watching your videos I’m a local near you I believe i live 30 mins from south holston lake
That's awesome I love that lake.
I’m still trying to learn it I moved to this area a year ago from smith mountain lake so it’s like night and day difference for me

what size weight do you use
1/4oz but if I need more I add a tungsten nail wait in before I put the head on.

What's up
What area of the TN river do you live
I live up around Bristol but fish down on Watts, loudon, Chic mostly When I get to come down. I fish Cherokee and Douglas in the summer mainly.
That Okuma 7’3” TCS is my favorite too!
I do like it a bunch. They make a great rod.
Good stuff brother!

Great videos. I will definitely try this out next time out
Thanks Just not on the long point it don't work up there at all. LOL

Love this style of video Hank. Quick intro/discussion with an on water walk through. As always, you rock
Thanks I try to get the how too's to the point and the fishing videos are an adventure.
Bet it would work on Douglas and Cherokee Hank
It absolutely works on Douglas
TCS; Tournament Concept Series. I used to flip with Scott Martin's 7'11" XH MatDaddy Okuma TCS rod. Decent rods.
Yeah I don't know why I said TCP LOL That's a Network protocol (My job jargon coming out) LOL
Love the video! Will try that out next time out. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for all the support! Means a LOT.
Have you ever tried the yum mighty worm? Works good on mag shaky head. Figured it would work for this technique.
I have not but I guess I'm dropping some dimes on a few now lol Thanks! hahahaha
