The game isnt that bad, and most importantly NO VC, you can actually play and not worry about micro transactions being rammed down your throat.

I have NBA Live 18 & owned every 2K since Dreamcast, I would say that Live this year is at least a 7.5 minimum. I agree on poor AI, presentation thats good but feels dated, lack of crowd chants & arena sounds at games, the WNBA game feels tacked on... Why does Skylar Diggins-Smith have Candace Parker face? This was a step in the right direction but Live needs to support this game with updates to tweak things like rosters, uniforms & franchise mode
The effort for the wnba players just isn't there. Some of them literally have the same player model. I wonder if the women soccer players in fifa got the same lackluster treatment?

none of that matters if the gameplay itself is yrs behind. They need to add atleast like a few hundred animations, work on the physics, just make the game feel better.

Your issue with the transition game sounds like user problems meaning you're pretty much a noob at the game and based on the few short clips in this review I can tell you just try to speed through (R2 button) the entire time. How about try to play the game of basketball meaning run some plays, pass the ball down the post, set some picks, etc.?

Lives the one mode is better than NBA 2ks my career. Ppl don't realize that neighborhood is just to get you to buy more Vc. Lives the one feels like 2k11 when you had to grind to make your player better. Makes for a better mode.

wow this game is way better than a 6.5, did he actually play the live demo or actually play a full game in the league or streets, at least you are limited to using VC to buy everything in 2k, the neighborhood is just one big area of basketball courts where as NBALIVE18 actually lets u play online on different street courts like NBA Street used to do, make a NbaStreet19 game one day, i bought Nbalive18 full game and loving every minute of it Ign staff don't know what they talking about and where is Naomi she would have done a better review of the game
under 10 bucks right now on xbox one with Gold. I just wanna play basketball without complicated controls and such. Seems like I can get past the flaws just to scratch the itch and cheaply at that without VC overload.
They need to review this again. This game has gotten better with all patches and updates.
6.5 - 7 range is where I'd rank the game too. It's fun to goof around with, but it's starting to get more and more annoying. What the reviewer didn't mention is that the ai is heavily flawed, choosing to constantly attack the rim no matter what, which leads to the game's next issue, WAY TOO MANY BLOCKS! The ai either takes a LOT of circus, playground, 'hero ball' layups which they either miss, or gets blocked.The game lacks general polish, and is extremely limited. There's only 2 jerseys for each team, with NO throwbacks, which I heard 2k already has. Turning off auto subs(which should only effect me, the user) also effects the ai, meaning they WON'T sub out tired players, and play only their starting 5 for the entire game!
If the player isn't a star, expect to see a player that looks like a bad cap. It's like they didn't give a crap about how role players look at all. No coach sliders, not enough gameplay sliders, can't create or edit players at all(not even jersey numbers!), c'mon ea! The game feels hollow since it's so limited in options and features. This is the 4th year on next gen consoles, yet we still can't create players or change the roster!
Live 19 better have so much content that it explodes out of the game case, because if it's lacking THIS much as 18, they won't get another dollar from me, even at $35.

So basically in summary, it feels like a basketball game suppose to and players play like they would in real life but due to not enough game modes it lacks variety. Hmmmmmm! Sounds like a 8.5 to me. If you get basketball right in a basketball game enough said. Take notes 2k.

One of my favorite features over the years from 2K has been the ability to play with the all time great teams and players (Jordan, Bird, their respective classic teams, etc). Does Live offer anything like that??
The commentary has gotten way better. It’s very similar to 2k’s. Longer dialogue, less gaps in speech. Van gundy gives background info on payers etc. arena sounds play very often like in real life. Every time down court the away teams get variations of defense chants. While home teams get authentic music/sounds that play like lets go cavs! The game gives you full control of your players. Yeah there’s still a lot to get fixed with live, but in terms of fun it’s head and shoulders above 2k. And I’ve been playing 2k since the first one.

This game is just a stepping stone for the future of the NBA live series. I expect to see alot more features and animations in next year's game.
If Live adds a mode where I can play Pro Am with my friends then that would be a meaningful addition. I understand the Live events should give that feel but it doesn't quite deliver. They should add 3v3 matches and allow players to be kicked who are unresponsive. I agree they are lacking in the animations area especially when it comes to contact. Another annoyance is that I have a difficult time performing a pullup jumper, my player will go into a layup animation. Also, please put Hoodie Melo in the Live even!

The fact that you can't scout draft prospects, edit players or even rosters in Franchise is ludicrous. The game is unfinished. These sort of features have been available since the PS2 days. That ALONE makes this unbuyable to the hardcore hoophead with 2K out there. 2K is just ao ridiculously deep. For a hoop head, there are an endless amount of features to experiment with. Live is just a shell of an NBA game.

spencer harris I've played both and 2ks gameplay is better. Live has some weird momentum problems with defense and the AI is trash on defense. The only thing that feels better is defenders don't get that patented 2k speed boost when you get blown by.

i have both 2k and live this year and honestly they’re really good in there own ways . When i feel like playing an arcade style basketball game nba live is the perfect fit and when i wanna play a little more competitively i play 2k.

live 18 is a big improvement over the older nba lives...2 me it's way better than 2k18 this year .. people are just stuck on 2k cuz it's been out forever w/o no competition... I'm very impressed with NBA live 18 for what they offer this year...only thing this game need is a unranked head2head mode and cleaner menus and we all good Damm shame y'all gave this game a 6.5 cuz it really deserve more..SMH datz why I never go on TRASH game reviews until I play a game myself... real talk

The game is def a 7.5 at best but my biggest complaint is the roster needs to be updated asap. I downloaded the latest patch the day after Melo got traded to OKC and the roster still hasn't reflected that yet

Tranz_festite 2k18 has better modes and that's about it and this point. 2k graphics have gotten worse and the animations have gotten worse as well. I don't know what happened but 2k18 looks worse than 2k14. Also 2k18 has too many micro transactions this year.
Wait for live or 2k to go on sale because both aren't really worth $60.
The demo alone was fun just imagine having the full game...

It was something new, seen my child play NBA Live 16 via EA Access so it seemed okay he played half a season of "the one".
The game looks really good but the 1 thing in my opinion that they have to fix is mainly making shots inside. I only played one game against okc n even in good defense they'll still make the inside shot almost every time n miss the outside shot unless they happen to b open overall the gameplay is somewhat better than live 16.
I was Jermey Lin and swatted Anthony Davis. Like line head was a foot above the rim. It's pretty hilarious. But the bugs in this game aren't the only problem. The movement is bad. You get stuck in animations. You'll be a foot in front of the three but your feet will slide behind the line. I love the defensive mechanics besides the cheesy blocks because it's smother online but other than that 2k wins hands down.
At least they improved. Keep it going EA games..
NBA Live 18 is better:
- I love The Legend Mode, especially with "First Take" Videos vom Stephen A Smith
- i love how you HAVE to interact with the press, the coach and so on to get bonus EP, Hype or other points that matters
- i love how you evolve your player
- i dont like that you have only 5 main abilities spots....you get way more abilities but you cant use them and it is restricted to the position...i want a PG like Magic Johnson...you can pass, shot, go the basket, rebounds and shoot 3s....but you cannot chose that style of player....only "play like Curry" or like "Westbrook". That could be better
- the game is not that fluid like it is in 2k...and many things you dont have control over. its like you tap 3 buttons and the animations starts...hmm
- the visuals are not close to 2k (the game is just 36GB...says alls)
- the loading screens are terrible, even if you switch from a player statistic to lets say the settings...it takes hours...
but the all around is way better and sure, the gameplay is cool, but 2k has or had a better one...but thats the right step...
in 2k myplayer mode, NOBODY read the interviews or the social media things...here in NBA Live, they are important and if you dont read them, that lowers your chance to become a great baller.
To EA: work on the gameplay, the visuals and the loading speed and you would have the best NBA game since 2k11 with their Jordan challenges.
Anyway, i recommend it if you wanna have fun and try something
P.S.: My first NBA Live since the glory days of NBA LIVE 2003. From 2009 to 2017 every year i got the 2k version. Not this year

I've played 2k since the dreamcast days and I bought this one this year cause it was cheaper. This game is pretty fun. The gripes I have about it is the franchise mode is thin and there's no trade finder. Other than that I live the game.

Actually that was 2K13 in 2K12 people were blocking shot eith every part of their body.
I give it an 8 just needs more modes and I love The Playground on 2K which is why I like it more. But Live really on the come up. People hate too much

Live 18 is a good game, not perfect but its a huge step in the right direction. I personally would have gave it an 8. I think it needs a solid story mode with some cut scenes, I also believe they need to work on mike been and van-gundy commentary it doesn't feel fluid enough. Last just work harder to improve the animations and body types I got both games because they are both good in their own ways, 2k needs work too

Why does the graphics look worst now? Maybe it was his capture card IGN used because the graphics seemed better in the demo.

I'm enjoying NBA live 18. This is the first time in 15 years I didn't buy 2k. 2K and it's stupid role player archetypes can go to the devil. I'm not interested in being a role player.
If NBA live would just get it's animation right, it would be better than 2k. Presentation and player's faces are way better than 2k.
