The moment the game firstly starts to play “searching for friend” is the one of the most epic moments in the game history. You will understand what I mean when you played it through
In my humble opinion, Final Fantasy 6 stands as one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time, there's SO much good stuff in there that I'd love for you to experience.
I don't even think of the words 'video game' for the FFVI OST. I think of the compositions as just good music, beyond the context of a soundtrack.
Agree with both, It’s the best soundtrack from any game I’ve played in my childhood.
This particular tune means something because of when you first hear it. It is after a very dark turn in the story, very dark, and this song represents a budding hope that the character/s can begin to cling on to. This game MUST be played to experience what the music really means, and it’s one of the greatest soundtracks ever composed for a video game. I’m not sure I’ve experience its equal in over 3 decades.
Would actually love if you did more of these! There's not a lot of game music reaction videos on youtube.
I can recommend Alex Moukala for video game soundtracks, he is so good at what he does
@@CallMeCaroline We could always use another voice though. ♥
@@CallMeCaroline Also react to Smooth Mcgroove.
Ugh, this song hits me in the feels. Everyone who has played the game and experienced the moment this song first plays just... Ugh. It's a feeling so special, we just want everyone to understand it. Searching for friends, indeed... Thank you so much for having a listen, I hope you enjoy a game that shaped my childhood and who I am today, the music especially means a lot to me.
Final Fantasy 6 is still my favorite Final Fantasy game. The music is great. I'd love more analysis videos. If you want a Herculean task you can tackle "Dancing Mad". It's the final boss music and it's incredible.
sady they manage to waste this music in the remaster as it didn't transition seamlessly anymore bwteen tiers. :(
FF6 is my fav as well, then I'd say it would be 7 and Tactics. I wish one day they will honor 6 better than they usually do with their ports and remakes.
@@mielthesquid6536 haven't gotten that far in the remaster but that is unfortunate as so far I'm loving everything about it.
I can really relate to this. Haven't played a single FF game (or any J-RPG) but the one thing I know about them is that the music is amazing.
You have to play the game to truly enjoy this music. The moment this music plays is something magical. Even after years, I get teary eyed when I hear it.
Me too. This scene in the game with this music helped me through grief.
Such a great song. One of the best tracks in the game. And the emotion of the song makes so much more sense when you get to that section of the game.
The pixel remaster version of Searching for friends totally made me cry when I reached the part of the game you listen it for the 1st time ! I highly suggest you to play the remaster (if you haven't already) the soundtrack is just AMAZING !!!
Thank you for this; this is one of my favorite pieces from one of my all-time favorite games and you've helped me to even further appreciate how beautifully and lovingly composed it is
You had reeled me in with the Beatles reactions, but final fantasy is my favorite video game franchise! Would love to see more videos like this where you break things down!
Uematsu san is a legend. Fisherman's Horizon, Balamb Garden, Eye's on Me... Just a wonderful composer. I'm so glad you love this Caroline. The games awesome too. I mean who doesn't love them some time travelling special forces high schoolers fighting against evil 😁
Respect points went waayyy up (they were already high) when you said FF was your favorite. SO MUCH GOOD MUSIC! I came for the Beatles but you definitely have a lifelong subscriber out of me!!
A couple of ideas: FFX has my ALL TIME favorite video game soundtrack and you should definitely check it out. I would love to watch you react to the game because the story will make you laugh, cringe, and sob before the end. But I know thats not really what you do here ha. Another idea is you comparing the FFVII tracks to the FFVII Remake versions. I've been wanting someone to analyze the differences.
My favorite OST from one of my favorite games! That bass is legendary. And the chord progression is fantastic too.
There's really something exceptional in some of these OST's which I quite cannot put to words; when you look at Escaflowne, Final Fantasy VI, Cowboy Bebop, and so on - there's some moving qualities that I've not seen anywhere else. These soundtracks span across space and time in a remarkable way.
This analysis was spot on, esp. at 5:03 recognizing that the music has to loop and be repetitive yet be enjoyable is the magic which separates some music from others. I don't know how it's accomplished that one could listen to a looped melody for 15m and not be fatigued by it, yet sometimes these composers for RPG's hit something brilliant that you could hear endlessly and still enjoy. Those are some rare birds.
Final Fantasy VI is... damn... my first love and major inspiration, along with being the 'Last Ray of Hope' for a seriously depressed 7th grader. A masterpiece and must play for any Final Fantasy fan. It's still my favorite game of all time nearly 30 years later.
VI is my favorite game of all time. The music is fantastic. I hope you like it if you wind up playing!
Isolating the various elements and showing them visually really helps me hear what your analyzing! I have very minimal music education, I enjoy ALL of your videos.
I am currently living in the third disc of the Lightning Returns disc. You can't beat Final Fantasy music. Great video!
The thumbnail is such a mood, I love FF so as soon as I heard some arrangements of the Pixel Remaster I was like "yup, I've seen enough, I'm getting those"
I've never played any final fantasy game, so this music is completely new to me! Such an interesting video!
Play it, play it as fast as you can, almost all of the games are great but Final Fantasy VI is the best of all, the music is amazing, the story is complex but beautiful and every character has their arcs and searchs and besides, their psychology is great
fun fact.
The original game was released in the US, as “#3”.
Just about all of its music soundtrack is really good.
The storyline is captivating,, I think you’ll like it.
One of the best video game soundtracks of all time. When the the game was re-released on PlayStation in ‘99 (along with FFV), there was a 3rd disc with selections from the soundtrack. Absolutely amazing! And a good gateway drug to 70’s Progressive Rock and Jazz Fusion…
That's so funny, I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the video. "Future Days" by Can. "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield. I think she'd get into lots of prog rock, actually. Especially Gentle Giant (most music theory-oriented) and Gabriel-era Genesis. Tull stuff like "Thick As A Brick" or "Passion Play", some Crimson, the classic Yes... I think she'd dig Moody Blues, and the classic Floyd albums too, which aren't exactly what we're talking about. Damn. "Tommy" and "Who's Next" by The Who. (Could do this all day, lol)
@@TTM9691 yep, when I started listening to all those bands, I was instantly transported back to the hours spent playing this, Chrono Trigger, Secrets of Mana and Evermore. The various Japanese composers have cited all those bands and more as direct inspiration (aside from the classical influences)
I'm always hesitant to say any one thing is my favorite of that type, but Final Fantasy is certainly up there for video games. I've been in it since the first one. Being American, I missed several until VI, which was called III here. But, true story, I owned a copy of VII before I had a system to play it on. The music has always been a highlight, so a breakdown of either VI or VII, or all, would be a treat.
didn't expect you to be a Final Fantasy fan! Awesome!
Wow. The nostalgia is strong with this one.
I don't even play Final Fantasy, but the music is so nice to listen to while working on things.
Finally someone talking about the base lol. I really like the mix between the flute and base, it's like two dancers dancing to their own music yet still managing to do it together in a tango.
I find nobuo does that a lot in the earlier installments of the FF franchise. Love it@
I love your analysis! I believe they make for a better reaction and video!
Very interesting subject. Final Fantasy VI was my introduction to the Franchise in the late 90's.
However in western Super Nintendo Version, it was called Final Fantasy III because the 8-Bit Original of FFII, FFIII and the 16 Bit original of FFV never came to America at the time.
I haven't purchased much game music in my time, but I'll always love my FFVII, FF Tactics, and orchestral FFVIII CDs. They are my precious and the filthy hobbitses can't take them from me.
I never got the chance to play FFVI, but I know it's well loved. I may need to play this remake.
For me, Searching for Friends is the best music I have heard in my life.
In WOR, thought that was the end and Kefka had won but no. After obtaning the Falcon and rise from water along the music first play. I emotionally cried a lot, such beautiful and hopeful. And being able to find the rest of characters in the game made me so happy and hopeful. Especially when it plays, I get emotional. I had thought Dark World was the theme of WOR but until this music played. I'm glad that the music still plays even when walking on the map. It's like having future and hope. This is my favorite music most in the entire game and among all games that i had played.
He literally never writes a bad song, he nails it every time!
When i hear this song im filled with hope!
Nobuo Uematsu’s soundtracks are great. He also worked on a handful of tracks for Chrono Trigger which also has a fantastic soundtrack. Crazy what they were able to do with the hardware limitations!
Keeping this spoiler-free, I always thought this theme's contrast with the high flute and low synth reflected a lot of what was going on during that specific time of the game. With the backdrop of the scary, traumatic event that happened right before, and the hope that you can mend it.
Just in case you haven't listened to it, the Octopath Traveler soundtrack is a total gem.
Yes, it's really worth a listen! Especially the battle themes, they're fantastic.
@@itsalolmor The battle themes of Octopath are extremely well composed to be able to segue from any character intro, it's really worth looking into if you're interested in the technical side of composing.
This was great! Considering what you enjoyed in the FF soundtracks, I would humbly request a review of Shunsuke Kikuchi's work. His contribution to the Dragonball/Dragonball Z anime is my favorite in particular.
uematsu got me into music seriously. i wanted to be a video game composer for a couple of years. great music
Any song by Nobuo Uematsu or Yasunori Mitsuda are guaranteed to be some of my favourite tracks of all time
originally came for the beatles analyses, but hit subscribe so fast when i saw the older ff7 video on your channel. would love to hear your take on terra's theme too!
I also love Final Fantasy. Their soundtracks are amazing
the bass is everything in that song.
every other instrument is there just to support the bass.
you can do an experiment.
isolate the bass track from the rest of the instruments.
play the bass alone.
then play the rest of the instruments without the bass.
you will notice the bass alone sounds much better and is much more emotive than all the other instruments without the bass.
If you want really nice video game music to analyse, I would recommend anything from the Dragon Quest series. Really nice orchestrations involved.
did not expect for you to recreate the song lol. sadly u didnt catch the children choir saying laaa laaa laaaaa laaaaaaa
The music in the pixel remaster is amazing
As massive Beatles fanatic and video game dev, this is a surprisingly good crossover to have! The FF6 soundtrack is absolutely incredible. It is also Nobuo Uematsus favourite OST and game in the franchise!
Please please give a listen to Terra's theme!!! It's one of the most pretty pieces of music that he has ever written.
One of the best soundtracks in the series!
Two Castlevania games that I remember for the soundtrack.
Super Castlevania 4, because we played it at my friend's dad's place and he had his tv hooked up through the stereo, so...as novice soundtrack aficionados we thought it was wonderful.
And Castlevania Symphony of the Night.
If you think either of them would be worth reviewing..
a game that I quite liked for its soundtrack was FFXIII-2. especially the caius theme Also that it has many musical genres such as Bossa Nova, jazz, pop, metal, etc.
There is some great music in video games! I'm most familiar with Nintendo's music but they're not alone in getting talented composers into their games! Quality music has been a requirement for video games for decades now and it does blow my mind anytime I dive in :)
FF6 isn't just my favourite game of all time but the soundtrack is also my favourite along side Shadow of the Collussus.
Be careful with FF6 it can become your favourite in the franchise from music, characters, world perspective easily.
Hey! I dig this! Videogame music reaction could be a good idea for new videos! :D
OMG YEEEES i love game OSTs
In the future please react to saber's edge which is the boss theme from final fantasy 13. It has a lot of weird but lovely tempo changes. And is my favorite overall boss theme of any videogame.
Anyway searching for friends is also one of my favorites even used it in a video once where i talked about a lost doraemon movie (due to the suspense and explorative feeling) love your videos!
Props for listening to the original version.
I wanna see you react to Omen (intro song for the game which is a medley of several recurring themes and one of the absolute best pieces of video game music history)!
My friend shared your channel with me a couple of months ago, but it's especially awesome to learn that you're a fellow Aussie FF fan! I've only known three others, so I think we're a rare breed haha. Great analysis of Uematsu's composition! Searching For Friends is definitely a favourite (and especially powerful in context), so a perfect choice for the video - although the version you'll hear in Pixel Remaster is a little bit different to the original SNES track you played here (still great, though!).
On a similar note, FFVI is an *amazing* game but the pixel remaster does a very poor job updating the visuals in my opinion, and some of the revamped musical tracks aren't quite as good as their original SNES counterparts. So if you enjoy the remaster, I'd highly recommend tracking down the original version of the game at some point. But regardless, hope you enjoy FFVI and thanks for the video Caroline! =D
Believe it or not I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to play it yet! But I can’t wait to play it, and I’ll keep that in mind.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 😊
@@CallMeCaroline I spend more time making games than getting to play them nowadays, so I know exactly what that's like haha. Hope the busyness settles down a little and you get the chance to play it soon!
My pleasure! Thanks for your response and looking forward to future videos =D
The Pixel Remaster of this song is amazing.
As a fan of this game, I will be downloading this as soon as it drops but if you liked that song you need to hear dancing mad. It is the final boss theme but I will say it is his greatest masterpiece.
This is my favorite game of all time tbh
Yeah the music from Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 are all amazing. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are just as good.
More Final Fantasy or gaming music in general.
FFVI has some absolutely killer tracks on it. Nothing wrong with Searching for Friends, but try out "Terra" (the Overworld theme), "Opening Theme Part 3" (a beautiful, haunting, snowy track), or "The Decisive Battle" (Boss time!).
You should also check out the work of Uematsu's successor, Masayoshi Soken.
I enjoyed this video 👍
When this song hits in the game. It makes me cry every time. I don't want to spoil it for you so I'll just say to.
I highly suggest you play FFVI and FFXIV too. FFVI is as good as FFVII and FFXIV is the best story in gaming I ever experienced. Nothing made me cry as much as FFXIV.
I get games because I like their music too.
❤❤
My favorite FF6 song is Epitaph. When taken in context of the game, it's the most tearjerking thing ever, at least until a certain FF7 song whose name I don't remember at the moment.
If I'd wager a guess you're talking about: You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet
It always gets me in the feels.
Nice review! How about Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim music? It is lovely.
Caves of Narshe and Serpent's Trench are the two best tracks. Fight me.
Loved the video! Can you do a similar thing but with Minecraft music?
6 is my favorite Final Fantasy.
I would love video-game soundtrack reactions.
Very cool
Once you know the context of the theme and when it plays, you'll appreciate it even more!
I love your video games music reactions!
Btw Steam Gardens in Mario Odyssey is an insane song pls react to it
Terra theme and gau theme is my favorite
I love Final Fantasy. You should checkout some of the latest music like the song Footfalls in the latest FFXIV expansion. They've done a great job lately creating this amazing music and blends in with the gameplay perfectly.
6 is a masterpiece
Just asking, did you order the Pixel Remaster which drops on the 23rd/24th?
I did!
@@CallMeCaroline It's gonna be a long 5 and a bit hours till it drops lol
Final Fantasy always had great music. 6 is a good one, the final boss theme is amazing. My favourite was always 10, loved everything about that one.
I'm so glad you have respect for video game music. I absolutely respect Rick Beato but he just has no love for this particular art form.
1:20 the hi hat rhythm isn't triplets...
Terra's theme from the same game please!
You gotta listen to the Pixel Remaster version, it'll knock your socks off!
FF6 remembers me of Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2. They have some great music. I like DOS1 more.
u should do it by the final boss music.
I get this tho, literally the only reason I bought outer wilds was cause the music was beautiful
Pineapples FTW!
Cosmo Canyon music.
I don't think I'm the first one at saying this, but have you played/listened to Undertale? If not, give it a shot, not too long of a game and BEST music ever. Not even for a video game, but in general, outstanding music.
heey Carol...I would love if you react to Chrono Cross soundtrack. To this day it continues to amaze me...it's absolutely magical! Love from Brazil to you s2
6 is the best ever
Haz un video de la música de Chrono Trigger!!!!
Oh, when you find out the CONTEXT of this piece…😭😭😭
I just started the game and am about 6 hours in, will hopefully find out soon!
@@CallMeCaroline Once you put story context to the song, it's amazing. When I first played the game and the piece started to play, it literally gives me goosebumps and made me teary-eyed.
Also, VI has a lot of missable optional story content to see character backstory which admittedly sucks but it's fun to see it if you're doing a 2nd playthrough.
@@tsunaxsawada10 It’s maybe one of my favorite moments in…all of fiction?
@@CallMeCaroline Oh to be experiencing it for the first time! Jealous of you. Enjoy the journey!
Need an update video!
I don’t know if this will suffice but, I got the game and have saved the file right before a cut scene so now I’m stuck because I can’t defeat the boss…bad planning on my part lol
Caroline, do you ever listen to Alina Gingertail on UA-cam? She recreates a lot of video game music and other pop culture themes. She has about 1.5 million subscribers. You should do a reaction video to one of hers.
You will definitely buy the game if you listen to ff8
