The great Philippine eagle seems more like a creature from a story than that of reality. Standing at a metre tall, with a 7ft wingspan and dagger-like talons, they are truly formidable animals, but with just 400 pairs left in the wild, are the most endangered raptors in the world.
In December 2019, a young female Philippine eagle was miraculously rescued from the ocean off the south coast of Mindanao. The bird was starving, exhausted and after changing hands several times, was taken to the Philippine Eagle Foundation for rehabilitation. She was named 'Maasim'.
On news of Maasim's story, biologist, Dan O'Neill, heads to the Philippines to follow her journey back to the wild. But after a major setback, the mission is turned upside down...

Why can’t we introduce the Philippine eagle’s species to other forest lands such as Borneo and Indochina where as a threathened specie it could have more forest to roam and thus more likely able to propagate its number. Philippine dwindling forest doesn’t bode well to the survival of the species.
@@osmondcalupad5918 I'm no expert but I think it needs more research because as we all know the Philippine eagle is a top predator so it might prey and wipe out smaller endemic species of the islands they are introduced. Geography plays a part also. However that's a good idea to save the specie just make sure not at the cost of other species. :)

Very true. This specie is critically endengered. This is not just philippines, the whole world should unite to help preserve and conserve the philippine eagle. We all should save them from extinction. :(
🙏
The names they give to these birds are so creative.
Bighani means to fall in love or in awe.
Pamana means Inheritance or Legacy
Pag-asa means hope.
There is another one which is Makilala-Hiraya. Makilala is the town she's found and Hiraya means "the fruit of one’s hopes, dreams and aspirations",
I love their Filipino names. Ang ganda pakinggan.
Lovely names. I love how when they examined Bighani, she only reacted as if to say 'What do you think you're doing??'. The love and care these birds are shown is wonderful. Hopefully the enforcement measures against poaching, etc, will being to bear fruit.

The Philippines has some of the most unique animals including the rare deer, however the country needs to do more when it comes to enforcing and preserving their animals. I also feels very happy sharing joy with you seeing the Philipine eagle flying in their nature territory . The Philipine eagle is just an amazing bird we all need to take care for our next generation to come.
Just googled it: wow, the Javan Hawk-Eagle is also quite fantastic.
i just checked the bird online and it’s absolutely beautiful
Nisaetus floris is also rare
That's one gorgeous bird, sir!!
True sadly no one is Interested in it Most are interested in video games
This made me emotional. I was in awe the first time I saw a Philippine Eagle at the Eagle Center. How graceful it was when it spread its wings, the length, the power it holds when it flies. I would be crying if I see one flying in the forest.
I have, along with others, been involved in rescue for decades, and remember one in particular. The rescue and recovery of an adult black palm cockatoo. The bird had become critically ill when the gentleman most responsible in the case decided to wrap him up and hold him literally 24/7 ,while also feeding him. It was quite some years ago but that man's decision made perfect sense to me. That bird felt this man's heartbeat and warmth continually. He also spoke to him with tender encouragement. It took, I believe 2 or 3 weeks, but he recovered.
Okay, holy shit.
I told myself "It's just a documentary" but as the Eagle soars through the skies like a ruler I got CHILLS all over my body and didn't stop until the eagle was out of frame. Thank you sir, for this wonderful experience.

Simple lang. dapat magkaron ng batas na Maglimit ng residential areas sa forest parks/areas.. Hopefully in all major forest regions in Philippines..
Tayo dito, tayo doon, maganda man or pangit.
Fun fact: The Philippine Eagle is very loyal. Once paired to a partner, they choose to remain as a couple for the rest of their lives. One of the reasons why I really love this bird.

Eagle (then more popularly known as the monkey-eating eagle) which were to be printed at the back of every Del Monte product. This was to let the public get to know these rare and endangered Philippine treasure and give way for donations.
If I remember right, there were only a couple of adult eagles in the center at that time (for breeding) and one baby bred in captivity. We were only allowed to view the adult eagles outside their cages. The adults were truly majestic and one talon is almost as big as my whole hand. It wasn't just their size that gave them majesty, it was their whole stance. One fleeting glance from the female eagle made me cower. I remember thinking how much bigger, more majestic, and how much more intimidating the female eagle was compared to the male.
The baby eagle was in a smaller cage, was much more docile as it wasn't raised in the wild, and was used to the presence of people so my art director and I were allowed to see it up close and take photos. We were allowed into its small cage (approximately 8-10 sq m?). I sat in a small stool possibly a meter and half away from the eagle as my art director clicked away. At some point, it got scary as it started looking my way very curiously. It turns out it was only because my watch was catching the light. I cautiously covered my watch with my other hand. That was a memorable experience! I wish I had kept all the photos.
I did the writing and the subsequent proofreading of all the labels which bore the details of the eagle. Up to this time, even if I'm half asleep and you ask me for its scientific name, I still remember - Pithecophaga jefferyi.

This is a great documentary, no doubt about it. But can we appreciate the efforts of the experts from the Philippine Eagle Foundation who tirelessly work for the protection of these amazing raptors? Mabuhay po kayo!

Thank you. Very much. For taking care of our bird.
Another thing about this video that kept me smiling was the fact that people of different cultural background and nationality can share the same awesome interest (love & save the eagles) and you can see it too now that's how humanity should look like. I see wholesome things like this I get soft.
When I was in Elementary, eagles are freely flying above us while we sing the Philippine National Anthem in school during the flag ceremonies. When eagles come, we all look up and happy because we see the Philippine National Bird, our symbol of courage and hope.
🥺🥺🥺
The Philippine eagle is reportedly very loyal. Once paired to a partner, they choose to remain as a couple for the rest of their lives. This majestic bird should teach humans a lesson on relationships.
Wow I just knew this by now. Sana all
Mia Angela Coline Pascual yes and they can only lay eggs one in every 2 years !
Most birds mate for life.
monogamous practice. Once their partner dies, they wont find another one unlike any other raptors.
They’re monogamous. Having just one partner in their entire lifetime. :)
I first watched the Bird of Prey which was so amazing and this is another great documentary about the Philippine Eagle. May people continue to protect and bring awareness to people about conservation and saving nature and its creatures.
Such an emotional and moving documentary! Thank you!!!

i hope disney see this documentary and create a movie featuring philippine eagle to boost awareness on how to conserve and protect these beautiful creatures, who else wants that?
Don't rely on Disney, lol. They're all money grabbing shitz.
Not good. It might attract more poachers😢
dont need disney. people need to stop being retarded and selfish and greedy. keep spawning kids when there are billions of people around

Bad idea. One word. Poachers.
Thank You for showing great love for our iconic national bird and for your concern for its conservation.. God Bless You!
Beautifull documentary. Thank you❤.
When I saw the Philippine Eagle soaring freely above the jungle.. I can't stop my tears.. it's our pride and we must protect them and made their numbers in the wild be more. I'm hoping and looking for a better future for our Philippine Eagles.. I salute all the members and staff of our Philippine Eagle Foundation. God bless you more and God protect our National Bird more ❤❤❤
they named her Maasim, hence the name of the place where she was found. Maasim, Sarangani Province
Akala ko yung amoy 🤣
@@thyssenheinel6507 ako rin.
I didn't know that. Maasim is just one municipal away from my home. I knew there's more Phil. Eagle in the mountains of Sarangani and TBoli areas as the forests is still dense and I saw one when I was trekking out there..
@@thyssenheinel6507 There's another municipality from Sarangani Province named "Maitum". Itom/itum = black
