@@StephenJReid haha yeah there’s only one more UA-camr I’ve done it with watching all their videos…I’m just curious about all the adventures 😅 it’s gonna be pain once I will have to wait for videos to come but you’ve got lots so it’ll occupy me for a while…
Thanks for the support! very much appreciated 🙂 Heading to the beach tomorrow with Louise so tell you what, this €5.00 will go towards some food for lunch or ice cream. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you're getting the chance to get outside yourself 🙂
Can I just point out that it was only 5 mins cycle to poo… and I’d rather do that than dig a hole where poosible 😁 - I also can’t believe you left the poo storyline in… to be honest I though it was a bit crap 😂 Also, yes yes yes to more bikepacking trips!! 100%
You make a cracking vid Stephen, so very watchable. The beach shots remininded me of fishing in the NW on "blue and silver" summer nights. And you're right, too many get hung up on gear. Cheers buddy 😊
I genuinely couldn't agree more re: obsession with camping. While I love camping, it's merely the vessel that allows me to see a side of the world that many people don't. It's the nature, it's feeling part of something bigger, and being made to feel small. Nice gear is nice to have, but it should never be the focus.
Loving these adventures, Stephen. Did you know that there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on that vast beach? Now that's certainly something to ponder while out walking around in the dark somewhere in deepest Scotland.
Yeah, ran for years, his past now but didn't have the retirement he thought he'd have regards mobility and getting around. Sad as well because we didn't talk for years.
Since ive turned 40 im defo more conscious that were not here that long and that im maybe half way thru life. Maybe thats why they say life begins at 40 because it scares the shit out of you to start living before we no longer exist
I don’t really fear the idea of death as I don’t believe it’s the end. But I fear wasting or not making the best use of this one. And the choices and things we do now matter. As Russell Crowe says in Gladiator “what we do in life echo’s in eternity” Although he was talking about killing people in battle, which is not quite what I had in mind 😂
Amen to that Mr.R. I’ve not been in this “game” long, but I think I already have the kit I need. It enables me and it’s essentially (mostly). But being out there is the be that counts. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wow! what an adventure. That beach camp spot was amazing, the waves too. I love a beach, of cliffs after dark too. Was at Dunottar last night, incredible views. Really good vid ❤
I quit running and changed to cycling after I blew my ACL skiing. At first I was worried I’d re-injure the knee running and thought biking would safer. Then I kept doing it for the joy of those distance rides. I believe exercise should be fun otherwise it’s just work. And I had to admit I was aging and the wear and tear from running was too much. Enjoy yourself and do only those things that bring you that joy! Life is too short to do otherwise.
Ouch that sounds painful. Glad you found the thing you enjoy! Not sure it’s cycling for me though. I get bored on any ride over more than about 1.5-2hrs. It frustrates me when I see mountain runners 20years older than me with zero injuries and much better ability. 😂. I guess at some point we need to admit we are not all equal when it comes to natural ability and some people will just be better genetically advantaged. I you’re right. Doesn’t matter what the activity is as long as it’s enjoyed and I wasn’t enjoying a lot of running I did last year. When I revisit it, I’ll try and make sure that I only run if I’m enjoying it 🙂
Then don’t do more than an hour or so! Don’t put pressure in yourself. And run mountains-maybe not too frequently, too long, too fast or too difficult. I’m my life I’ve found that variety keeps my interest. (I also have a bit of an attention issue) Any hobby can become boring and routine. Mix it up! And there’s no shame in listening to your body and resting-otherwise you risk injury and additional wear and tear. The easier you take it now, the longer you’ll be able to do it! I’ve never had a lick of trouble with my old knee-but I sure have enjoyed life! PS: don’t tell anyone, but I’m 65 and walk up Blue Mountain 5 days a week while we’re home as well as camp and hike on weekends)
I agree with your intake on camping I have not much gear I have no idea about the gadgets (I do find them interesting though in your videos and makes me want them all and I feel I need them all 😅 I guess I’m very influenceable 😂) which proved multiple times while out I maybe should as I did make a lot of silly mistakes 😅 but the main reason for either hiking and camping along is for me the inspiration and connection with the nature aka very source. I have fairly emotionally demanding job so going to nature is very healing and I don’t get such clarity and inspiration anywhere else….i could just spend hours watching nature do its thing sometimes 😅 with my partner I first time experienced eating in the tent I was used to cook and eat outside and watch what’s going around…being in a cosy tent has its benefits I have to say, but I love being outside if weather and midges permits 😅
Well I’m back in Northern Ireland now. But I have been looking into multi day hikes. Although not sure I’d want to do any more than 3 days if I’m making videos. I really like to get videos out and move into the next thing. Not good at committing to the same thing long term
I was on a Mango AR, which is discontinued but it was about £750 new so just about in the affordable quality bracket. It started as a road bike but I changed the tires to gravel tyres Connor was on a Fustle bike, local brand. Their bikes start around £2k. The Fustle was definitely better designed for this, much better gearing on hills and more attachment points. But mine coped fine.
Personally I enjoy these type of videos more than the running ones Stephen, but I guess that's just down to the fact that I don't really have a connection with running, but always enjoy the scenery (or the rants!). Many people obsess over gear anyways: whether thats camping gear, running or cycling gear, cars, clothes or photography/filming gear. The whole industry is geared towards giving us fresh new products to drool over in cycles.
Thanks Peter. Kit definitely matters as you need the right kit, but it can be a distraction that diminishes the experience of actually getting out there.
Thanks dude, really enjoyed this
The soliloquy on the beach was really passionate and honest. I totally understand your sentiments. Respect.
Thanks Raymond 🙂
You’ve got the camera skills and a good eye for what to camera 👍
Thank you! 🙂
Loving this multi video adventure 👍

What a beach! The islands itself are really beautiful! Thanks for bringing us along.

Thanks for watching Simon 🙂
Great job liking the camping in remote areas. Scottish islands fantastic. 👍

Yeah it's mad how small we are in the universe. The pale blue dot photo and the story behind it are. humbling!
You were talking about running, my poor dad ran for years on roads and one thing he told me was not to try running on roads. Loved the video, great❤❤
Yeah excessive road running is much worse than trail/mountain running.
Yeah, ran for years, his past now but didn't have the retirement he thought he'd have regards mobility and getting around. Sad as well because we didn't talk for years.

I kinda agree once you've got your kit and it works for you then it's all about using it to help you spend time in places that are different
Yup! Find a setup that works and stick with it. Concentrate on the locations and people.

Same as previous video.
Fair enough. Great video nonetheless

Just the worst 😂
Never run on roads. They are too hard and will result in injury.
Depends how much you run on them
wtf! the point of wild camping,.. is wild pooping!
