Trash To Track. Episode 34. Bachmann Hall Split chassis loco.

Hello and welcome to episode 34 of Trash to Track.
In this episode we take a look at a Bachmann split chassis Hall thats been sent to me by Rueben. On first glance it looked ok, but a nasty surprise was lurking inside the chassis!
I also take a look at two of his coaches that he sent along to see if i can improve the ride quality and replace the missing parts.

I repaired a Mainline J72 axle with just a section of a Biro pen refill. Still going strong 10 years on.

Another excellent repair, I actually sent a Mainline Peak to the guy who made those axles and he designed up some new gears that I needed making as spares weren't available so he can make new bits for it if you send the part or loco over

I Dan I have a b1 the central wheels keep coming off and it is not split would you glue them on tony

Bachmann has these poor material in the N scale locos as well. Even the gears are made with this plastic and the hubs where the shafts are inserted, tend to split in all of them and the crack goes across the whole gear. I have repaired some of them by putting tiny sleeves of aluminum or brass tubing cut to about 2 mm in length on each side. Buying a new gear will cost an arm and a leg with shipping. Very bad material to use for this application.
