    It would be a more fair comparison if you used the Yamaha Pacifica 611 with the Seymore Duncan pickups and the Wilkinson tremelo and Grover locking tuners for $629.00. It also has Tusq graphite nut and string trees.
    It’s a much better quality guitar than the 311 and is more in the same category as the Reverend Warhawk.

      Actually the build and finish "quality" of the 311H & 611H or V is pretty much the same. The custom hardware list and type (not quality) of finish e.g. FM vs opaque, gloss neck vs satin are the two major differences. I own and play both a 311H & 612VIIFM for frame of reference. In saying that, the 311H is probably the most underappreciated and underpriced guitar in Yamaha's Pacifica range even put up against the value of the ubiquitous PAC112V (which I also own), and that's saying a lot considering what topping value within any segment price point the entire range.

    Nice tones and interesting video. I feel the effect of the bass contour is more noticeable with some dirt on my Reverend (Sensei RA). On a crunch channel it brings the HB sound from Angus to Malcolm Young zone if that makes sense. My daughter has a Pacifica (112) so I play it too sometimes; it plays and sounds great for a guitar that is 1/3 of the Reverend price; however the Reverend feels definitely a higher end, better finished, more solid instrument.

    Good video, but not really a very fair comparison. Yamaha is always a great value, but you aren't going to get the kind of build quality and out of the box set up you get from a Reverend, and you can feel the difference more than hear it. They both have well made PAF HBs in the bridge and P90s in the neck, so with a little finesse with amps, pedals, controls, etc you should be able to get pretty similar sounds out of them. But man Reverends play sooo nice. I got a used Warhawk RT (comes with RevTrons, Reverend's take on a hot filtertron) for about $675 and it's one of the nicest playing guitars in my arsenal and currently the ace of my rotation. Actually saving up to get a Reverend Six Gun HPP now. You'll get more than you pay for with the Yamaha, but the same is true for the Reverend. That $499 Yamaha can rival some other guitars that push $1000, but the Reverend, at around $1000, rivals other guitars in the $2-4k range, imho.

    • @themanncave2143
      @themanncave2143  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the comments! The Reverend is definitely the higher-end guitar and I agree that the Reverend is a good value proposition on its own (compared to U.S. made guitars). I just happen to have both of those guitars and thought it would be fun to compare them. Also, it is fun to compare a lower-tier guitar to a more solidly mid-range guitar to see just how much of a difference there is, and in this case, the differences are subtle, even in terms of the feel of the neck (which is really important to me). These days the Squiers and Pacificas are pretty good instruments! I think the 500-level and above Yamaha Revstars make for an interesting comparison to Reverend. Though the Revstars don't have the p90/hum pickup config, the construction is similar (set necks, 24.75 scale length, low-pass filter, price).

    • @htht856

      Disagree, them Japanese are masters at guitar builds, so Yamahas can certainly hang in there with Reverends. Also, Reverends aren't MIA, they're MIK.

    • @themanncave2143

      @@htht856 Did I say Reverends are American? If so, my mistake - I know they are made in Korea (and the Yamahas are from Indonesia). I do think the Revstars are about equal to the Reverend, having owned both.

    I have the exact same warhawk DAW and a Yamaha Revstar 620. It would be wrong to compare their tone (revstar is mahogany neck through H/H), but I can comment on quality/ hardware. The warhawk came with nicer hardware, I actually replaced the bridge on the revstar, which is why it cost $300 more. Both are well made, but I would give the warhawk the edge, everything is straight and even. That being said the revstar (with new bridge) is my favorite. Whether its doomy riffs, or jazz licks- just sounds and feels great!

    • @themanncave2143

      The Revstars are an interesting comparison. I previously owned the RS502 (p90s) and the RS820CR (humbuckers). They should make a Revstar with a p90 and a humbucker like the the 311H! Yeah, they should put locking tuners on those Revstars (some have them some don't). The main thing I didn't like about the Revstars was the neck dive, but it isn't a big deal in restrospect - could have just got a grippier strap, but I felt at the time like I was fighting with that neck.

    I have that Pacifica and I think that is one of the best in the price range 300-400. I am from Spain and its cost me 275 Euros new in shop in 2019.
    But man that Reverend plays in another league, better comparation is the Pacifica 611(vfm, vfmx or HFM, H).
    The 311H P90 is very good, but the humbucker can be much better than the yamaha stock and the tunning stability is impresive with very low action and easy bendings.
    The Pacifica 311H is a great buy but Reverend is much better instrument and yes more expensive.

      Raudo, I'm also from Spain, also have a 311 😁. Recently I installed a capacitor+resistor like the Revstar series, I like it better now, before it was a bit dark.
      The Reverend is beautiful nevertheless, and sounds great 👍🏻
      If the Pacifica keeps up despite being 1/3 of the price says a lot

    • @themanncave2143

      @@pablo963 I like the coil split of the 311 - very useful. I previously had two Revstars (520 and 820). I remember that "dry switch" - I've heard it is kind of the same thing as the Reverend "bass contour." Those were cool guitars and sounded great, but neck heavy - I always felt I was fighting against the next dive. Probably could have solved that problem with the right kind of strap...

    • @pablo963
      @pablo963 3 роки тому

      @@themanncave2143 I must admit possibly I don't know how to make the most out of the coil split. Combined with the neck was ok, but on its own it sounded thin and had a massive volume drop. Now with the resistor+capacitor I get a sound that I like much better, especially when playing clean (brighter, chimey). Still I find the neck a bit dark and boomy (could be it doesn't combine well with the amp, a practice amp -microcube-), but yours sounds fine.
      Too bad you didn't like the Revstar, I have some sort of crush for them but didn't get a chance to try them yet, maybe I get disappointed.

    Nice video 👍 So I was looking at the 311h, or the 120h. The 120h is cheaper and more versatile imo, with 2 splitable humbuckers. But do you think the quality much will be much less than the 311h?
    Also, a random question, what software do you use to capture your video footage please?
    Many thanks ✌️

    • @themanncave2143
      @themanncave2143  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much! I think you are right about the 120h being more versatile, and quality wise, you know it is going to be good - the same as a 112V. In my opinion, the draw of the 311H is the P90 pickup. The 311H also has locking tuners and graphtech nut and string trees, which are nice upgrades over the 120H. If you don't care about the upgrades and the p90, then go for the 120h!
      I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the videos that I shoot with a Canon m50. I also use decent mics to capture the audio using the Logic Pro software.

    • @theblytonian3906

      Completely disagree, and your nick reveals all as to why the bias. A fair comparative would have been the weird bodied baseball bat necked vs the 611H, still miles cheaper and better than the Reverend. Regardless in the case of the 311H, you haven't a clue. Build quality of the PAC311H is right up there with Yamaha's PAC611H, which in both instances is flawless. Guitars just don't come better in that regard. Instead of fancy paint and other trivialities on the Warhawk, the 311H comes with hardware. Graphtech nut and string trees, Grover locking tuners. The 311H body is Alder, not shitwood. Similarly the fingerboard is Rosewood not shitwood. The 311H's OEM Yamaha fixed steel bridge & saddles are superb quality, and string though. FMM a satin neck shits on any painted neck in terms of feel as does the C profile vs the baseball bat D neck profile of the Warhawk. Radius is an individual preference. For me, Yamaha all the way at 13.75". The pickups on the 311H are Korean G&B, same manufacturer who produces YGD pickups in the Revstars. If you didn't like them, the 611H has Seymours, and the 611V has a Wilkinson VS 50 vibrato bridge. In a nutshell, the Yamaha eats the Reverend in every department.

    • @themanncave2143
      @themanncave2143  3 роки тому

      Sooner! Yes, the Rev has jumbo frets while the Yam has medium. Also the shorter scale length makes for less tension on the strings. Either way, both are pretty sweet.

    • @theblytonian3906
      @theblytonian3906 2 роки тому

      Yamaha call their Pacifica frets "medium", but they aren't conventional medium jumbo. Relative to the latter IME, they are notably narrower and lower.
