these guy's ideas are so refreshing in this genre of music.. im in love with cosmogenesis. tremendous album. can't wait to hear more from these obscura.
@joeyofdoom666 Of course they don't write on the computer. Pay attention. Every death metal musician imports his ideas into the computer to get a good image of the song. Also , it's much easier for the other band members to learn and adapt the song then. Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse does it too.
I agree with the last 2 comments. I just saw them a couple of weeks ago, and Obscura is friggin awesome live... Super tight and very technical, but not for everyone (aka, the guys that only go to metal concerts just to smash skulls in the pit). Definitely one of my new favorite bands.
Song structure isn't very complex; this is true, there aren't many crazy time changes or polyrhythms and etc. that make the songs hard to follow. He wasn't pertaining to the technicality of playing, so go pick up your guitar again :)
@lukyganesh A lot of bands use GP. Muhammed does everything in it, and Adam Pierce from All Shall Perish writes all his drum parts in GP. Slice the Cake is also Guitar Pro'd, and Tosin Abasi made some of his own GP tabs early on I think. It's a lot more common than you would think.
A simple idea can be hellish to play and a really intelligent musical arrangement can be extremely simple to. You guys confuse structural complexity with technical requirement for its execution.
@deathRUNor Ya, in fact, it's time saving to. With my band, I just write out the basic structure of each part of the song in Guitar Pro, send the file to my other band mates, then we practice it and improve the song from there. Without GPro, I wouldn't have the drums to help form the apparent structure of each song. And our band opened for Obscura in November, which was really cool. Really, we couldn't have done it without Guitar Pro. So I totally relate to Obscura there.
i didnt knew the bassist was Dutch but after hearing him speaking English he had to be Dutch because I am Obscura owns me every time I listen to Cosmogenesis
@Mithologian Yeah definitely, they are awesome live; especially since the music is so hard to play in the first place. And I now like even the clean vocals on Omnivium. I guess a month changed my mind.
@ZachMetalAsFuck i dont think he atually made the riffs and what not on guitar pro, it seems that he just wrote it out on guitar pro to show the band. thats what i do for my band. i write the songs on guitar and bass and then type it onto the omputer so the others an see how its played
The awkward moment when Christian nods his head in agreement when Jereon says "It's not very complex", and I'm already here crying because my dreams to be a guitarist are ruined.
If that dude is such a nerd, he is king nerd of metal! This dudes a fucking genious! He and OBSCURA have probably reinvented metal like DEATH did back in the day.
@estebanskater123 I think he means in terms of how it's strophic, and it's pretty easily broken into stuff like verse chorus, Riff 1, Riff 2 etc. Unless they are SO AWESOME they don't understand the meaning of things like "Insane talent" and "Masterful skill" Obscura FTW!
Someone commented earlier saying that death metal is for nerds now, that it's lost it's essence. Why? Because Christian wears glasses? That's ignorance. Apparently, one can't play death metal unless they have 20/20 vision now. Grow up. Death metal is progressing, it takes brains now. Don't be upset because you can't keep up man.
I was thrown off by the "complex" comment as well but I think he is talking about the song structure, not the music itself. I don't know anything about producing music but I know there must be a difference.
well you have to look at the fans of traditional death metal.... all meat heads, the image that comes into my head when i think of them is scene from ace ventura when cannibal corpse is playing... the meat heads in the crowd hahaha.
@Bassbait im just saying they may have created a unique sound like death did...not the SAME sound tho.just in how each of them created a sound that no1 else can match.
@inimicalODDITY if death metal is for nerds, ill be a fucking nerd, i love it and death metal isnt about being macho or cool at all soooo maybe some artists are "nerdy" who cares? if they can make good music thats all that fuckin matters
So? there's bands like DEATH that don't talk about death everytime. Death or even gore can be a good metaphor to express something, but you don't have to use it everytime to have good lyrics. It doesn't matter if you make death metal, alternative rock or prog or whatever, the important shit in music is what you want to express, and the way you put it with beautiful sounds. Being a metalhead is not about making out we are evil, it's art, with serious messages, with it's own aesthetic P O S E R.-
I like how are they talking with peace and using guitar pro :)
musical genius!! gotta love Christian's german accent and his fascination with the word "actually"
these guy's ideas are so refreshing in this genre of music.. im in love with cosmogenesis. tremendous album. can't wait to hear more from these obscura.
More is certainly what we got my friend. Hopes was as good for you as it was me.
@@boothbyaw Man I was just here to say the same thing.
love how each member embellishes the piece from its original state
Christian is insane. simply insane. Yet Godlike.
Both are very cool, talented but humble musicians
very good writing here, reminds me of the baroque-ish sound of the old splatterhouse games !
Yep, Obscura's music would be great 8-bit style! There may be some attempts at that on youtube... :-)
Brilliant composition. Pretty much the only obscura song I ever got into. That harmonized lead is heaven
I would love to just sit down, have a beer with these guys and just talk music. I think I would be so inspired once it was over.
I tried to play this song on my bass, and I almost lost my hand.
Obscura, you are bringing death metal to a new, high level
Thats awesome, I can't wait to see them soon.
Right on. Any genre of music is out there for anyone and everyone to listen to.
great band,i love this song !
@joeyofdoom666 Of course they don't write on the computer. Pay attention. Every death metal musician imports his ideas into the computer to get a good image of the song. still super interesting to see how they worked out the songs!
something about 5:50 just cracks me up watching the way they stare into the screen haha
I agree with the last 2 comments. I just saw them a couple of weeks ago, and Obscura is friggin awesome live... Super tight and very technical, but not for everyone (aka, the guys that only go to metal concerts just to smash skulls in the pit). Definitely one of my new favorite bands.
I Like this guy so much ! What a Guitarplayer
Song structure isn't very complex; this is true, there aren't many crazy time changes or polyrhythms and etc. that make the songs hard to follow. He wasn't pertaining to the technicality of playing, so go pick up your guitar again :)
6:00 NO! Midi Sounds are badass, I love them!
One hell of a song
amazing song!!!!
The structure isn't but the riffing is.

That acoustic part is Subliminal
i didnt knew the bassist was Dutch but after hearing him speaking English he had to be Dutch because I am
Obscura owns me every time I listen to Cosmogenesis
@SparkShredder It's MIDI, so I'm not too surprised.
Dude is a guitar god.
you've gotta be kidding me, they use guitar pro to create their song....THATS FRICKEN AWESOME!
"Songs are easy to catch" MY ASS!
Haahahahahahahaha!! True story! I said almost the same thing when i heard that!
He means the structures aren't overly complex to the listener I. E... There's a catchiness to the riffage. It's easy to grasp
compared to other tech death bands (eg Spawn Of Possession) Obscura's songs actually are easy to catch, especially the ones on Cosmogenesis
jeroen thessling is one of the few bass players that can get away with saying that
He's talking about the structure of the song
@Mithologian Yeah definitely, they are awesome live; especially since the music is so hard to play in the first place. And I now like even the clean vocals on Omnivium. I guess a month changed my mind.
three cheers for GP!
Really like their bass guitarist
@prenticeanyonywright hes not talking about "virtuosity " or something only about the structure of the song.. melody and harmony
these guys r so fuckjin good! amazing stuff
these guys are genius
@estebanskater123 he is referring to the song structure, not theory behind it.
I'm super glad Christian returned to Obscura, he's a god.
@ZachMetalAsFuck i dont think he atually made the riffs and what not on guitar pro, it seems that he just wrote it out on guitar pro to show the band. thats what i do for my band. i write the songs on guitar and bass and then type it onto the omputer so the others an see how its played
indeed necrophagist, spawn of possession are more complex structure ways....impossible technique!!!
Spawn are from an alternate dimension in terms of song structures!!! Necro is still closer to than SoP Obscura :)
If it ain't Baroque, don't fix it hehe
Transcribing it like that, then recording it reminds me of Jason Becker.
The awkward moment when Christian nods his head in agreement when Jereon says "It's not very complex", and I'm already here crying because my dreams to be a guitarist are ruined.
i love seeing this side of the madness that is death metal. mr. muenzer showed me exactly how my ears bleed when i hear this badass music
I what that gp tab! :)
gah, they make it look so easy
If that dude is such a nerd, he is king nerd of metal! This dudes a fucking genious! He and OBSCURA have probably reinvented metal like DEATH did back in the day.
its called Guitar Pro, you can compose from guitar pro and you can learn songs too :)
What the fuck. These guys are beyond smart and skilled.
I wanna see something like this for Decrepit Birth. How Matt writes all those harmonies is beyond me.
Michael McCuin weed
@MikeAsHimself yea, i watched the whole thing, and still dont know if he wrote it on an instrument or not
@AnOddMusician Well stated.

@joeyofdoom666 Did you listen at all to anything he just said? He had that song for a few years already.
Fuck yeah Guitar Pro is da shit!
does anyone now what tuning Obscura uses?
Guitar Pro all the way!!!!
is that the program tux guitar?
Man, Christian looks like a very cool guy, I loled at 1:42. And he doesn´t look like a guitar virtuoso at all when you hear him talk lol
Oh man, they used Guitar Pro!
I want that gp5 file!!!!!!!!
@meddelhed
Good enough for Obscura.
Guitarpro. Awesome
hahaha oh god this video is hilarious with the transcribe audio CC on.
have you guys considered using another fast beat instead of blast "
I was thrown off by the "complex" comment as well but I think he is talking about the song structure, not the music itself. I don't know anything about producing music but I know there must be a difference.
Guitar Pro 5 Rules!
well you have to look at the fans of traditional death metal.... all meat heads, the image that comes into my head when i think of them is scene from ace ventura when cannibal corpse is playing... the meat heads in the crowd hahaha.
@GrotesqueKevin then look up the damn song
holy shit they use guitar pro?!??!
Thesseling is fucking beast!
where is that tabs .D its orginal song tab :D
OMG look at how long Christian's fingers are!
give us this tabs!!!!!
@inimicalODDITY Totally. There's room for everything in DM. So long as the end result is awesome, who cares?
I wrote a bunch of comments on here when I was 24. Oof. What I would’ve told my 24 year old self.
Guitar Pro FTFW!

P O S E R.-
omg
Wait, all this is already tabbed up on guitar pro... WHY DON'T THEY FUCKING UPLOAD OF FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!
guitar pro 5 :D
dude he will break if you hug him
Jeroen: "It's not very complex."
Me: "sigh" :(
they didnt write this on guitar??..on a computer????
it is more common than it seems
lol he should upload the tabs
interesting
sounds like Mario bros levels
jajajajaj in the bowser´s castle
lololol Jeroen- "ObSKEWraa"
the intro sounded like 8-bit...:P
the new mozart!
fucking right
Yeh, but it's certainly not typical, theres no indication of modulation, just sudden changes in many of obscura songs.
THIS IS FUCKING OWNAGE!
