Each year the
Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, The park board and the city decorate the zoo in Christmas lights. Its a big deal and really very fun. Of course its at night. The zoo has set up barriers so no one can wander I n areas they shouldn't. For humans and animals alike.
Well, one year a couple of decades ago, a man decided he wanted to tske a short cut to the parking lot. So, looking around over the barrier he doesnt see any animals and climbs over into the Musk ox 🐂 en closure. He doesnt realize until its too late that what he thought were boulders were infact sleeping Musk Ox who were just as startled as he, only the Musks didnt take the intrusion well. They began trampleing him and tossing him into the air. It wasn't long before most of the zoo goers could hear this man's screams over the Christmas music. They finally figured out wear he was. Turned on the floods and found him in a bloodied mess against a barrier he tried to climb. He survived his attackers barely. He was concussed, with a broken leg. I think a cracked rib or two and various scratches and cuts.
He was straped to a gurney and carried over the barrier into the waiting ambulance.
As I understand it, once he was sufficiently healed he had to face monetary penalties for his escapades. The city zoo and the news used it as a teachable moment for adults and kids about staying on the zoo paths.

I feel so bad for the lion who had to get tranquilized due to the ignorance of humans. Why would you think it was OK to place yourself in his habitat his home just to be a show off you better be glad you made it out alive and unarmed and untouched that lion was not being friendly. The lion was definitely sizing you up in about to rip you into pieces. Had they not put him down, just be grateful that you made it out alive and will be able to tell you ridiculous story I feel as though human beings are more untamed animals than actual animals and reptiles themselves move on his part
