It really isn't that bad. If they actually strike (which they aren't they literally just send like 5 guys to the local airport for 2-3 hours) it can be declared a national emergency and they will be sent back to work or be fired. They know a contract is likely to come in the next couple of months and the process for them to be allowed to strike from the government will take longer than that. They are just making sure it doesn't get delayed like it has been for the past year or so.
