Only thing that stopped him from making that Finals series an actual competition that year is he punched a locker and broke his hand after game 1. Dude was like a freaking machine that playoff run. Made me believe he was the goat after that year.
Same thing happened in the 2020 finals. Butler's legs were straight up gone by game 5 and 6. LeBron showed no signs of slowing down at all. Absolute freak.

2012 and 2013 is Peak Lebron. He bulked up, became a tank and still had 90% of the vertical and speed he had in his first Cleveland stint. Plus that version of Lebron played within a system and fits on any team. Over these 2 years, he was: - The best all around offensive player/most efficient high volume scorer in the NBA (27 PPG 7 APG on 64.5% TS) - Great mid range shooter - 80% finisher at the rim - Best transition player ever - 42.7% on Catch and Shoot 3s (38.5% from 3 overall) - Guarding 1-5 at a high level - Best help defender in the NBA
Lebrons game 7 against Boston is probably the most underrated performance in the history of this league. That And 1 goal tend where the defender intentionally jumped on Lebrons back and he carried him through the whole thing was the most superhuman play I’ve ever seen in my life.
the thing with lebron is he has games like that or the comeback in game 3 vs the pacers in 2017 and they're literally just another game for him lmfao. guy's playoff games are just unreal, he really won't be fully appreciated until he's gone
@@ernestmuric6719 I ain’t talking about that series against the Mavs. LeBron did not play a good series, that’s true. But if you think that Dirk ‘outplaying’ LeBron in that series was greater job than LeBron carrying that Cavs team to the Finals while averaging 33 and playing 45 minutes, you are out of your damn mind.
Agreed. I've never seen anything like it and I have nothing against Michael or anyone else. It was just unbelievable to see the all round game, control and clutch plays. Even if he taken some defensive plays off, I remember specific games were he was constantly yelling to his team mates the plays the opposition were running and how to beat them throughout the games. I have to watch it all again to truly grasp it all.
@@ernestmuric6719 that was a great Mavericks team they had all the pieces. A star scorer in Dirk, Dpoy in chandler, a veteran Point guard in Jason kid and a deep bench with a combination of wing defenders and shooters. That team had that 04 pistons vibe to them as far as chemistry goes. They beat the defending champion Lakers, Durant Westbrook and Harden Thunder, and the Big 3 in Miami. That was a really good Mavericks team.
@ernestmuric6719 you talk as if it was only dirk who played vs LeBron, d- wade and bosh. Last time I checked, basketball is a team game not an individual. These MJ worshipers are such haters.
As a viewer, if I had to pinpoint one year, I thought 2018 Lebron was peak Lebron individually. Not peak athletically, as I think the period horf references would be his athletic peak, but peak as a basketball player. That 2018 year with the team he had to drag them to the finals + that game 1 against the warriors. That was the best Lebron I had ever seen.
That Cavs team was not that bad and he didn’t “drag” them. Kyle Korver is one of the all time great shooters, they had Kevin Love, they had Wade, Isaiah Thomas, and Derrick Rose at one point, got back Rodney Hood and George Hill too, JR Smith was PRAISED in 2015 for his shot making in the absence of Kyrie and Kevin, etc. They still had Tristan Thompson playing at a very high level. Bron said “we got a squad now” and they were definitely the best team in the East since Kyrie was injured and Giannis hadn’t arrived in the league yet. They traded away a superstar and we’re heavily compensated, that team wasn’t bad. A bad team that made the finals is the 2001 Philadelphia 76ers. Do some research, that 2018 LeBron was getting all the favorable calls in those series and barely beat the Pacers and Baby Celtics in 7 games. That’s the best you’ve seen? A guy losing 3 games to significantly less talented teams in each round?
@@officialconch its been 4 years since that season how many of his teammates are still getting minutes in the league let alone starting? Go look at the shooting splits and stats of his teammates… his best teammate on the playoff run was jae crowder and jeff green lol spoken like a true bron hater
2018 was just the most complete version of Lebron. His outside shots, mid range and 3 was just on point. Driving to the basket. Passing, rebounds... I mean everything a team needs, he gave it. Just so sad that GSW was just so weak that they had to get Durant to win against him.
Some players even admitted on GSW that they weren't beating those Cav Squads with Kyrie and Lebron. Such a shame KD went and ruined the league for 4 seaons.
In terms of skillset yes, but I would say his best overall was his peak in Miami. The crazy thing about his time in Miami is that DWade actually _hurt_ his overall impact numbers a bit because they played similarly, and LeBron was more efficient when he was the sole offensive creator. He was also a much better defender in Miami.
@@tigeryumyums9407 yeah Andre igoudala and Draymond green have both said that, more people need to give LeBron James his flowers while he's still playing.
2018 LBJ playoff run was so intense. The pacers series with Oladipo taking him to game 7. To LeBronto taking over and then the Celtic series. What a run beating 3 hard teams in the East was no east accomplishment
I always feel like people that don't say 2018 LeBron just don't actually remember that playoff run and we're watching it that close. 5 of 6 in shots to tie or take the lead in ONE PLAYOFF RUN, with two buzzer beats. 45 Points in Game 7 against Boston. Most points ever heading into the Finals. PER higher than any MJ run ever. Most 40 pointers in a playoff run. 42-11-8 in elimation games. 51-8-8 in Game 1 of the Finals and almost beat the greatest team of all time with a mediocre team. I am an MJ over LeBron guy, because of LeBron's terrible leadership, and his choke against the Mavs in 2011, mostly, but 2018 LeBron is the best player of all time for a single season.

I truly can’t wait for a Lebron documentary. I need all the stories and all the insight. I wanna be able to see Bron through the eyes of his peers/competitors the way we got to with Jordan w the Last Dance (which was eye opening for me as a 19 year old at the time) I’m greatful for mediums like this podcast that allows me to get a glimpse into it like this. Thanks JJ.
Its not a documentary on his career but there's a great Bill Simmons podcast with Jared Dudley that has great insights into their bubble win. Road Trippin has a two part podcast about that period too. I learned a lot. Documentaries on this sort of stuff bend the truth or leave out details to create a certain story.
'is there a peak LeBron?' definitely 2013. Dude average 27 8 and 6, 2 steals and a block, could guard every position, the best ever in the fast break, 56.5% from the field, and 40.6% from 3, elite IQ ofc, and he was at his heaviest at that point without sacrificing speed or cardio, he started posting up more, etc. Dude had absolutely everything. The best basketball peak ever.
I don't understand why more people don't acknowledge 2016 as the highest peak of all time. He literally beat the most winning team in NBA history (73-9 Warriors) while leading BOTH TEAMS in Scoring, rebounding, assist, steals and blocks. No player in NBA history has ever done that in the Finals. GOAT.
Because it wasn't the highest peak. Simple. Did he win a championship while also winning 1st team All Defense & Finals MVP & league MVP & Scoring title? No? Well.... Jordan did. FOUR times. Do you know who else has done that in the entire history of the game? Nobody. The end.

@Swae5ive i feel the same way about 89 Jordan. They hadnt won a title yet but they were just head and shoulders above everyone else maybe ever. Also their first title years in 12/91 were also legendary
The thing people don't realize with Lebron is that going to 8 straight finals is showing the wear and tear on him because he's nearing 40, but that also conditioned him from 2010 to 2018 to have absurd cardio and conditioning. He was used to playing those heavy minutes from the first second of the game to the last second. If you add his total playoff time up he played like an additional 3 or 4 seasons worth of basketball. That's why when people discuss the GOAT debate to me I always say Jordan had a better peak, but Lebron is the best player of all time in my opinion. To be a 38 year old man and averaging 30 a game is not normal with the mileage he has on his body.
I remember watching that Game 7 and the Q on the Jumbotron with a full crowd and watching the last few minutes was some of my favorite times as a Cavs fan. My heart was racing through that whole game, but the Cavs players were making all of their shots and LeBron straight up took over and once he got that and-one and beat his chest to the Celtic crowd. I knew I was witnessing one of the best, all-time playoff performances ever. Also it made it so much better it was against the Celtics because of Kyrie leaving us. I know he didn’t play, but that angered all of us. I also remember when Jayson Tatum dunked on LeBron, the whole crowd at the Q was all in unison going “OOO” haha, but luckily we got the upper hand and then got destroyed by the Warriors lol.
Man Al horford was a pivotal part of my childhood. Him on that hawks team with Joe Johnson and Josh smith zaza. The time Mike Bibby was there omg wat a time
2018 Lebron was unbelievable. an offensive firepower. unguardable, and clutch as hell. unfortunately had to meet its end when they ran to a better team in the finals.
I was at that hawks vs wizards game and I saw that game winner by Al. What a great rebound! I remember like two or three guys hitting the floor as Al came flying in for the board. It was an incredible moment as a fan! Great to hear him say that was a big moment for him, it sure felt like it at the time when the crowd exploded with cheers!
One of my favorite players since being a main cog in the Gators' twin championships. Lifts the level of every team he's on, far more than most players, and definitely more than most fans would even recognize. Would have loved to have seen him with the Warriors during their last few big man-poor years. A mobile big guy would have fit right in and would shore up a lot of their weaknesses.
That Wizards game was SO meaningful to myself and, I believe, the Atlanta fanbase. I'm glad Al considers it his favorite too!! I will always cheer for big Al wherever he suits up
This is LeBron’s Killer Instinct! People get caught up in MJ and Kobe trying to outscore and embarrass their opponents. LeBron is heady, he manipulates defenses and is a coaching staffs nightmare. He’s out smarting teams and is more prepared mentally and physically. That’s killer also. It just looks different when you play team basketball.
Yeah but MJ was mentally outthinking his opponents too. Ask John Stockton, the all-time assist and steals leader. Two Finals in a row, MJ out IQed Stockton. MJ knew Stockton like to cheat off of his man to double team MJ. So, during a timeout, MJ told Steve Kerr, who Stockton was guarding, to be ready for an open jumper! And as MJ predicted, Stockton left Kerr wide open, MJ passed it to Kerr, who swished it and the Bulls beat Jazz. In the next year's final, MJ lurked in lane while Stockton was too eager to get the ball to Karl Malone. Karl never knew MJ was behind him but Stockton should have! MJ strips Karl and goes down and hits the winning bucket. Stockton and Jazz were out IQed again! When MJ came into the league, he was outjumping everybody. When he left the league, he was outthinking everybody! Lebron is one of the greatest basketball players I've ever seen but MJ was the greatest!
@@gregoryharlston0602 I saw it live so I get it brotha. MJ is my other GOAT for a reason. I’m just saying that LeBron came in to the league with that mindset. MJ and Kobe had to learn how to trust their teammates and that took a lot of years. That’s their path though, it doesn’t take away from their greatness. I’m solely talking about this “Killer Instinct” that some say LeBron doesn’t have just because it looks different than there’s.
The funny thing lebron was a full package. There games he would play like magic manipulating the defense and setting up his players to make easy baskets....and they're times he would score like Jordan and Kobe lol the dude is Jordan, Kobe and magic all in one.
Al Horford seems like a great dude. He looks like he could play at least a couple more years if not more. As long as he's tall and can hit 3s he'll have a role. That said I cant wait to see what he does after he's done playing.
The 7 games with the Bucks were indeed the best games of last year..... We want more of that please!!! And JJ you have to bring Giannis at the podcast bro... You are one of the very few that actually shows him the respect that he deserves!!
In 2020 NBA finals game 5 Lebron & Jimmy Butler going at each other. Bron 40 7 13 Jimmy 35 11 12 in the final shot Bron tries going to basket 4 players surrounded, so he found Danny Green wide open he missed. on game 6 Jimmy was not the same Jimmy in game 5, he was exhausted, his stats 12 8 7 but Bron 28 10 14 he was still menace. If it wasn't for Solmon Hill Bron Collison injury in Atlanta he would still be a beast. After that injury he couldn't go back to that level.
This is a really good point. I ain't never heard someone say "Damn, Bron looks tired out there" until maybe last year when he started playing less aggressive on defense.
You guys do such an amazing job at bringing on amazing interviewees, I’m always so enthralled with learning about these various NBA players that may not usually get this kind of time to showcase their personality, knowledge, experience etc etc
IMO peak Lebron James was found from 2017-2018. He figured some stuff out with his size and athleticism and combined that new strength with a polished offensive arsenal including insane post moves. He also had enough stamina to still be a be a effective defender. That guy was insane!

19-20 LAbron including the bubble is my pick for best version. '18 Cavs Bron is special too but something about his energy when he first got to the Lakers is so entertaining. I think he was just coming out of his prime athletically but he still looked like he could run all day, jump out of the gym, you were never afraid he would get injured, and his finesse game took on this Showtime-esque shine.

This is two handsome men my GOD! Also, have to agree. '13, '14', '15 and '16 Lebron. There is no other like it. The league was going through a big change with style as the GSW dynasty started to come to the fore and you saw those big runs become more and more popular. Lebron managed to weather that storm and win in 13 and again in 16. Both times if he isn't at his absolute best, those teams have no chance.
2018 is the last "quintessential" LeBron season. It was his only season he played every game, heled the league in minutes played and minutes-per game, and of course he carried the Cavs to the Finals after Kyrie's mutiny and the failure to replace him with an impact player. Ever since then, we've had "load-managed" LeBron, a guy who's great (offensively) when he actually plays but sits large stretches of the season for rest and injuries. I honestly feel like the 2018 season shaved years off his career, which is somewhat amazing considering he's still going strong at his age.
it's amazing he dragged that horseshit team to overtime in GS in game 1 and that jizz mop JR smith couldn't even be bothered to know the score of the game.

Lebrons game 7 against Boston is probably the most underrated performance in the history of this league. That And 1 goal tend where the defender intentionally jumped on Lebrons back and he carried him through the whole thing was the most superhuman play I’ve ever seen in my life.
Underrated is the most overrated word on UA-cam.
the thing with lebron is he has games like that or the comeback in game 3 vs the pacers in 2017 and they're literally just another game for him lmfao. guy's playoff games are just unreal, he really won't be fully appreciated until he's gone

2018 LeBron is the best player I’ve ever seen. The fact he took that team to the Finals is beyond impressive.
Why won't anyone talk about how DIRK outplayed a GOAT who had prime WADE ,BOSH. That's greater than anything LeBrons has ever done.😮
I agree
If his defense was like what it was Miami I’d agree
@@officialconch in 2018 they got a completely flipped roster mid season
2018 was just the most complete version of Lebron. His outside shots, mid range and 3 was just on point. Driving to the basket. Passing, rebounds... I mean everything a team needs, he gave it. Just so sad that GSW was just so weak that they had to get Durant to win against him.
Exactly 💯💯💯 golden state had to do a superhero team up in order to go up against LeBron James and he still put up unbelievable numbers.

The passing in that Celtics series, maybe (consistently) the best of his career. Laser passes, many of which, no look. Extraordinary.

GOAT.
He also won 2 games in the 2015 finals vs that same warriors team with Mathew delladova as their second best player
Because it wasn't the highest peak. Simple. Did he win a championship while also winning 1st team All Defense & Finals MVP & league MVP & Scoring title? No? Well.... Jordan did. FOUR times.
Do you know who else has done that in the entire history of the game? Nobody. The end.

The time Mike Bibby was there omg wat a time
The comeback to Cleveland was the best Lebron. The things he was doing without his best two teammates out some of the times was crazy
2018 Lebron was unbelievable. an offensive firepower. unguardable, and clutch as hell. unfortunately had to meet its end when they ran to a better team in the finals.

Well he hurt his hand after that game 1, or else he would of stole a game or 2 in the series. Doubt he would have won the series though, unless kd or steph got hurt.
I was at that game when Al hit the buzzer beater on the wizards. That 2015 season was something!
Man I just knew he was gonna say the game winner against the Wizards was his favorite moment. Easily one of my favorite playoff moments as a hawks fan
Somebody send this to Mario Chalmers 🗣️🗣️
Facts 💯💯💯💯💯💯 chalmers same as pat salty 😂😂😂😂
“nObOdY fEaRs bRoN” yeahhh right 🤣🤣🤣
I can’t wait for this full interview
2018 overall playoffs and finals Bron wa something especial that we haven't 👀 in decades. The whole performance was unbelievable. He should win the MVP for that regular season as well.
Imagine down 0-2 tied the series and then win games 6 and 7. I think he scored 44 n 34 dominanting.
Glad Al is talking about this 🇩🇴
AH always seemed like a solid dude! Good stuff 🔥🔥🔥
Love Al, was so fun to root for in Atlanta.
Thank you so much for Sharing this video.
These questions JJ is asking is when he started to think about coaching Bron😂
I agree with those years. 2016 watching him against the Raptors was crazy, the Raptors facial expressions were sad to watch. He was hitting shots behind the basket, fade aways, everything was falling.
Big Al one of my favorite players. Such a great leader and player
Much respect to Horford. As a OSU Buckeye fan that watch that Florida team crush us in the Natty. I took much delight in the Cavs beating him and Joachim in the playoffs each year. ;)
And this is why AL is still in the league! Dude is so smart , wise , articulate , and take cares of himself! Never hear any drama with this dude and has worked on his game over the years and will knocked down big shots
Big AL. one hell of an all-around player, but an even better man, and person. I tip my hat to you brother.
Mannn, what a classy man horford, everytime he is asked about somebody else, all he spitting what praise praise praise, no hate no arrogance all respect and adoration towards whoever it is
The other part of this is not only was this game 7, but this was his EIGHTH STRAIGHT FINALS RUN. So many total minutes, so many games, year after year. Still unfazed.
One of my favorite Latino NBA Players 🔥🔥🔥 Amazing player -- Hope Boston win with him.
