    Love your quick impressionistic style. Less means more! Realism painting explains the work to the viewer but impressionism allows the viewer to interpret and become immersed in the viewing experience more intimately!

    A very valuable demonstration Malcolm. Thanks for sharing on your channel. I must admit sometimes, I do tend to hold the brush too firmly and end up (when I paint a wet layer over one underneath), lifting off too much paint that is already there. Your video provides a much better way of applying it.

    Thank you for another super informative video!
    Just curious if you would at any stage in a painting, use a brush specifically for the purpose of adjusting brushstrokes after the paint has been placed, or if you would rather add more layers to cover over a stroke you might not want to leave as is? If you wanted to smooth out the brushstrokes in a sky, or change the pattern of marks in a grassy foreground, for instance. I have heard that its not ever a good idea to use a dry brush into wet paint with oils, but if you'd care to share your take on this I'd be interested to know.

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Cara. No I never use a dry brush. If the painting is wet it is easier to correct , but I will use fresh paint to do so. If the painting is dry it is tricky to get the color and strokes right. It can lead to more work than intended 😊

    Thank you Malcolm...can you do one on acrylic brushwork please? I have used the #4 & 8 Cryla brushes you recommend and find they have the best "spring" - wonderful to work with but I struggle with the large sizes. Also, in your videos you always seem to have masses of paint to dip into - do you mix more as you go? I never have enough to apply as a thick stroke when I follow the videos and I don't seem to have the knack of remixing a good match each time. I do wonder also if there is a a particular way to pick up the thick paint and lay it on.

    What are your favorite brushes for acrylic? Do you do the brushstrokes the same as for oil?

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  3 роки тому

      I like Dealer Rowneys Cryla range. Yes I do try a similar approach. Lots of paint and layers as acrylic tends to flatten out as it dries.

    Hi Malcolm, I purchased an oil painting, however when I got home I noticed a brush hair in the centre of the picture, when I returned the picture I was told that it is common for an artist to leave a brush hair on the picture. Would this be normal. I paid 500.00 euro for the picture.

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  2 роки тому

      It happens, but I would not say its normal. Its unfortunate the artist did not remove it. Does it really detract from the painting's value or enjoyment? Not really. It depends on the painting, visibility of the brush hair etc. If it is not intrusive its not a big deal. Ultimately its up to you. Some would find it appealing as part of the artist's painting process.

    • @pg402
      @pg402 2 роки тому

      @@MalcolmDewey Thanks Malcolm for taking the time to reply, the lady in the studio pulled the brush hair off, close up it was very obvious, I was really surprised/ disappointed that the artist didn't remove it. However it will be sent back to the artist to fix. Thanks again and greeting from Ireland.

    Я посмотрела с переводчиком...все ясно вы демонстрируюете кисти. Я давно хотела вам сказать...что не рисуйте закруглённой кистью...лично мне не нравятся такие кисти... разве что в редких случаях.... только квадратная или удлиненная плоская кисть способна создать красивую живопись. А закруглённая не даёт красивых мазков...и эффектов . У вас видна эта округлость мне это. не очень нравится ... Это конечно мой вкус. .но возможно другим это нравится. ..Мне вообще нравится пастозная живопись..чтобы мазки были видны.... . но у меня пока не очень получается ...я учусь этому ..Большое спасибо за ваши уроки. !!!!!!! Простите что пишу это но все же скажу... Посмотрите пожалуйста ...нашего русского Художника Вячеслав Короленков он очень известный...лучший в мире . Импрессионист .Мне очень интересно что вы скажете .? .У него много видео роликов на Ютюбе ...Его живопись и техника .. невероятная. ... так как он ещё никто в мире не писал. .Он был в Америке .и во многих странах...Это мой любимый Художник...я и у него тоже учусь..!!!
